We reviewed the criteria for a powerful response and worked on our drafts. Tomorrow we will  share our drafts with a classmate to get some feedback to help us improve our writing. Be sure to check your drafts against the criteria to make sure you have included what is required. Students also got back their science evaluations. As a class we went thought the test and made the needed corrections. A summative evaluation for this section of the unit will be uploaded to Fresh Grade by Friday.
1) Reminders:
  • Math: Integers party tomorrow
  • LA: Finish response draft ( printed by recess tomorrow)

  • Please check yesterdays PAR as Ms. Golby replied to many of your posts
  • FRIDAY: final dramatic reding presentation so choose a good selection (approx 1min)
2) Post A Response:

I feel like a strength for me is describing things and a stretch is organizing.

A good way to improve is by proofreading or by following a rubric

I think organizing my writing is a strength for me and my weakness is the grammatical stuff.

I will organize my writing so I have every little grammatical stuff type of mistakes.

I feel that a strength for me is brainstorming, and kind of phrasing things in my head, but a stretch is getting those thoughts down on paper in a way that makes sense to other people. Oh ya and grammar and spelling (right Emily?!) is definitely a stretch as well :)

5th. The hard part for me is starting and getting resonalble information. The easy part for me is finishing and putting it away then forget about it.

I think that some of my strengths include very technical things like grammar and spelling, as well as organization in my writing.

Some stretches I have are getting ideas on what to write about and (when writing responses/essays) linking ideas smoothly.

I will try to work on making my ideas link smoothly in my response by reading my paragraphs through to check if they sound ok. I'll also use my strength in grammar and spelling to help out my friends.

Strength: I think I am very strong with my grammar and spelling, also with organization and developing ideas for opening and closing sentences.
Stretch: I think my stretches are adding detail and supporting my ideas.
I will add more detail by rereading my paragraphs and checking the use of complicated and more descriptive words. I will try take reread the book to see if I missed any key points as well as going into deeper thinking.

Stretch: Grammer and spelling

My strengths in writing are basically non-existent. I think that my ideas are good, but I strongly dislike (different word here) actually writing them out. My spelling is actually the on par with a third grader, so that's another stretch... I can use auto-correct to fix my spelling XD

A strength would be that I can make my words and ideas flow. The words can convey ideas easily.
I need to work on really connecting all my thoughts together. It's sometimes messy, with different ideas here and there.
I can support my strength by adding more words into my vocabulary to help it flow.
A way I can work on my stretch would be by mixing ideas with other ideas. There can be different ideas, similar in thought, put into several paragraphs.

Strength (maybe): I think I have good ideas and creativity????? (I think :/)

Stretch: I need to find ways to connect my ideas together and make sense to the reader.

Strength: I feel I'm good having a good, smooth, flow in my writing.
Stretch: I usually have troubles making deeper connections with stories and can only think of connections like "Hey, I have a sister too" or something like that.
