Ecosystems Field Trip

Ecosystems Field Trip

Their were ducks flying in the cool blue sky and swimming in the glistening water. Massively, tall, extraordinary, buildings all around us. We were downtown.

My class was going on a field trip downtown to take photos of different types of ecosystems. We would later use the photos for a project about different types and changing ecosystems.

We walked up to the skytrain and got on. We road the skytrain until we were there. Once we were there we walked form downtown to the beach. I thought the scenery was amazing. I could hear cars driving by us and wondered if any of the drivers thought why are all those kids standing around taking photos.

At the beach we had lunch. My friend Taya was eating chips and she dropped her chip bag in the water. There was a seagull and it took the bag and tried to eat it. All of the students that were watching this happen were yelling at the seagull “NOOO! DON’T EAT THAT”. The seagull eventually decided that it didn’t want to eat a plastic bag and he spit it out, Taya then got a stick and fished out the plastic bag. It was quite a funny thing to watch and I’m glad that the seagull didn't eat the bag.

When we got back to school I looked at my phone and found out that I had taken about one thousand photos which would be grate for my project. I also found out that we had walked just under twelve kilometres. It was a very exciting and fun field trip.

We day

''Are you ready for We day?!" It was so loud. Terribly loud. As the huge crowd of 20,000 people cheered and screamed, my eardrums were near the breaking point. It was an experience I have never had before, and probably never again.

We day, I can only describe it in one word really. Chaotic. However it was a very good type of chaos. Unfortunately only 16 people in all of the Me we committee had to chance to attend this extraordinary event.

Going back to my thought of chaos, when we first boarded the sky train is was rush hour. Mr. Hong has warned us before but I didn't think it would be this crazy everyone on the train was so squished. There was barely any room for our class to even breathe, once we got off the train everything was a bit less chaotic. Until we arrived at our destination, Rogers Arena. Again Mr. Hong has warned us about the 20,000 people all over BC will be there.

The moment I stepped inside of the arena it was crazy, DJs, popular figures and many people with incredible stories to tell. But my biggest complaint was that it was incredibly loud, so loud it started to hurt my ears after a while. But all in all We day is was awesome, I've experienced something that I never had before, And I also learned a lot about the injustice in this world and the many ways we can help, together.

First time skating

"Aaaaaaah look out" I yelled as I passed next to a peer almost knocking him of her feet. "Sorry. First time skating " I said.

"Everyone pack your things and get to your driver groups " Mr. Fisher announced. The school emptied of grade sevens as we got to the cars. Kerisdale arena, inside it was like a hockey court and something like tinfoil on the roof to keep the cold from getting out of the building.
As I tied my skating shoes my stomach felt like there was a tornado inside. I was so nervous about it "what if I fall and break something or embarrasse myself" I thought. "Everything will be ok".

Inside the arena was like a digital clock that as soon as it marked 11:30 everyone started skating and playing hockey like if the bell from the school rang. I just went to get one of the things that one can hold on to and went with my friends. I remembered that skating was just like rollerblading. I know rollerblading so it was easy to get moving but the hard part was to keep balance and not fall. I could feel the cold breeze on my face. After some minutes of practice, I finally could leave the non falling thing but there were only 2 minutes left. Everyone started to head back and get their skating gear off.
Back at school I felt pretty good for how I did today.

Skating!

"Woopsie daisy! First time skating, so, please get out the way" I exclaimed to the people by the edge of the rink. "Come on Ester! You can do it" said Serin while skating by me. I thought it would've been the worst day ever, but it turned out to be quite the opposite.

That was the day when we were going to the skating rink at Kerrisdale. At the start of the day we just did some science and not even 20 minutes later, we would be leaving our school. "If your parents are here, you may go and take your group" said Mr. Fisher. I was in a group of four with David, Sophie and Jedd. It was a very solid group: I wasn't mad about it.

At first I thought it would be a basic carpool ride where no one talks because they are too awkward to. But then Christmas songs and sugar packets happened. We all sang to "last Christmas" on the radio. I can definitely say that David's dad did not expect this. For the sugar packets, Jedd just asked David if he had any because he wasn't "energized" enough for the morning. After all that non sense and slight traffic we arrived to The skating rink.

I lined up and got skates, prepared myself with a helmet and got onto the ice. But barely did anything. I was so scared of falling and injuring myself. Before coming here, a friend of mine told me her brother fell and someone skated past him and slashed him by the knee. It felt like my last day on earth. Olivia helped for a few minutes, then, Krizia came and helped me too. I skated back and forth in a straight line to practice first. I swear like 50 people had to help me skate. It was like 50 people trying to save cat from a very high tree. It was an easy process, but not a very fast process.

After about 15 minutes, I got the hang of it and proceeded to try to go around the whole rink. Serin came and held me at the start and let go of me when I was about half through the rink. And just like that I went around the rink... once. I did a couple more and had a lot of fun. Sadly the timer had rung for us to leave the rink and pack up. We returned our skates, went back to our group and drove back to school. I was proud of myself I achieved a goal that I thought I would never accomplish.

Ester, you are very determined and a on going person that doesn’t give up that easily. On Thursday when we went skating you were very wobbly at the start, but you kept on pushing yourself to try going farther and farther, you went. You sometimes needed someone’s help to keep your balance but you still went for it. So just by pushing yourself just a little bit in 1 hour you* told yourself to skate around the whole ice rink by yourself. Your an amazing person.

Skating
I quickly skated down the ice and called for the puck. When it came i hit it as hard as i could. Boom, i scored.

Last Thursday we went skating. We went to a different place this time, it was called the Kerrisdale cyclone Taylor. It was quite large. As we went to get ready i had just realized that we could play hockey. My dad always watches hockey and i watch with him. Hockey isn't my best sport but it is one of my favourites. When we were down putting on our skates we went to the ice. I felt like i was in Antarctica. When the doors opened i felt like i had just been released from something. On the ice i skated fast and i could feel the cold breeze on my face. It was like i was skiing.

Later me and a bunch of other people decided to play some hockey. Mr. Collins, Ms. Chohan, Mr. Fisher and Mr.Hong also played. It was really fun playing together and i really enjoyed it. Every one probably scored more than one goal i think. I scored quite a few. Most of my goals were from really good passes. We played hockey for the whole hour.

After that we went back to school. Mr. Fisher played the best song ever. Don't worry, Cause every little thing, is gonna be alright. Ahhhh, i love that song so much. Just imagine being on the beach the sun directed on you and, wait I'm writing about skating not a majestic beach. Anyways, we did work for the rest of the day. In conclusion i think that skating is the perfect activity to get you into the Christmas mood.

The audience collectively gasped in awe as the orchestra played one of the most recognizable songs on Earth... the theme song of Star Wars.
It all started at that place where most field trips start. The SkyTrain station. As this trip was no exception, we took a train to Vancouver City Center, or more accurately, the Pacific Center. We took a short walk around the mall, window shopping, but there was really nothing to interest us. I remember feeling that the advertisements were more intriguing then the shops themselves - possibly because we had nothing we needed to purchase. Most people, including myself, were bored after the first dozen minutes, and we settled in the food court to have an early lunch. I sat down in a relatively clean place (do you know how dirty food courts are?) and ate my lunch. Though many tempting aromas wafted around me, but I really didn't like how the smell of hamburgers and rice conflicted. Hmmmmm! But the food and the window shopping was only a minor event compared to our real reason to visit the heart of Downtown Vancouver. We walked, full from our lunches, a few blocks towards the Orpheum Theater. I was especially excited as I had never had the chance to hear a live orchestra performance before then. In hindsight, I missed out on a lot of exciting things. The first thing I realized when we entered the Orpheum… was that it was very, very large. Rows upon rows of seats and a large stage awaited us. We took our seats, and waited. As there were two large screens playing presentations in a loop, my friends and I fell into a discussion about several things. Some of them were what dog breed was the best, what sport was the best, and some light conversation about the amusing pictures depicted on the ceiling above us. I probably shouldn't describe them too clearly.
When we were just about getting bored of talking about our four legged cousins, the show started. Polished brass shone up at us from the stage. The French horns, trumpets, the immensely tall harp, and all the other instruments vied for attention amongst the orchestra. But even the most beautifully crafted instruments could not compete with the astounding music. Beethoven. Mozart. All the great composers of the centuries before us rang through the air. But there was one which really stood out to me. This was, of course, Star Wars, composed by John William. It was simply astounding, and combined with the atmosphere of the theatre, it was music no video or recording of that song could dare to compare to. When it was finished, everyone gave a standing ovation for the musicians.
Looking back, I was sorely mistaken about recordings having a similar feeling to the real thing. In a real performance, there is a feeling that is indescribable and incomparable to anything else. Only now can I truly appreciate that.

Ecosystem Field trip

“Everyone go get your bags, we’re leaving for the field in 5 minutes!” Is what the teacher yelled as the students went to get their bags.

That morning I woke up early and was very excited for the Ecosystem field trip. I had already packed up all my stuff the night before and was ready to leave the house. My mom dropped me off to the drive way in front of the school.

The bell rings as all the students from division 2 comes in our class to talk about the expectations for this trip. I was very excited because this was the first field trip I had that allows you to bring your phone and use it. We all lined up afterwards and got ready to leave the school for this amazing field trip.

We walked up to the Langara skytrain station and counted how many people were there. When I was walking, I had this weird question that popped in my mind. We went in the train and got off at the waterfront station. Fresh air! Because it was pretty hot in the train. The teachers once again told us the expectations for devices and then we were set free to take pictures!

We walked from downtown Vancouver all the way to Stanley Park. He had lunch at the beach and then we walked back to waterfront to take the skytrain home.

FINALLY! I said and went back to the school so I could sit down because I was too tired from all that walking. It was a 13km walk and everyone was tired. I would recommend you to not walk there if you’re going. Just drive or something.

The day was insane, my legs were sore, I could not stop thinking "I am so cold"! That day started at the school when we were planning to go Downtown, the part that I was the least excited for was the walking because WE HAD TO WALK FROM WATERFRONT TO STANLEY PARK. My buddies and I were on the Skytrain and were talking about our stuff until we got to Downtown. When we got to Downtown we took pictures of the ecosystem, I walked for another half hour and every second I thought my legs would melt. I was always thinking even when I was sitting "when is this over", I was just getting so tired of walking.

We made it to Lost Lagoon and the problems for me got worse. I stepped in a Kreek! My foot and shoe was freezing cold and wet and it felt like my foot was in an icebox. We finally made it to the beach for lunch and the wing blasted at my face. We ate our lunch and then we went down to the beach. I looked down at the water and saw two strange things. Logan was hanging off the edge of a cliff and Taya had dropped her phone in the water. Wow, I had enough, I had been walking for 2 hours and my legs were breaking. Things kept happening like walking and not much more. my legs were sore, I could not stop thinking "I am so cold"! The way home was a lot quicker, I don’t know why but it didn’t feel like much. When I got back to the school I kept asking my friends, "how was your day"?

skating, the one thing out of the few sports that Canadians are very passionate about. Us Canadians have breeded one the greatest hockey players ever to step on ice. Many decades ago, men like Maurice Richard paved the way for men today like Crosby and Mcdavid.

About 40 to 50 years ago, the Kerrisdale Cyclone Taylor arena was constructed. Darrel Sittler was the first to make this arena recognizable. Now, almost 50 years later, I step on this very rink in which one of the greatest hockey player ever has skated on.

About a week ago, Mr. Fisher took us to the Kerrisdale arena in which we skated around. The rink was as cold as ice, and having a T-shirt on was as useful as having air conditioning in the Arctic.

When we got to the rink, everyone grouped together before going into the dressing room and getting our skates. It was absolute chaos in their, but soon enough, everyone was waiting at the doors.

The minute hand struck 30, and everyone began skating on the ice. There were some slips and falls at first, and I landed straight on my gluteus maximus, leaving a huge bruise at the spot of impact.

I loved how the cold air was brushing against my face as I skated along, and it felt very good. Soon, I began to grow hot in my jacket, and unzipped the zipper. I sighed in relief as cool air flowed through my hot and stuffy jacket.

I had an amazing time at the ice rink, and I can't wait to skate again.

A cold breeze passed tickled my neck while I was charging like an outraged bull sprinting headfirst into the red cape..I was squatting down, my skates were tilting left and I was gaining momentum. I was noticing the other skaters for a brief moment while it felt that I was about to take lift off.
We were going skating on a Thursday and things were fairly average. We took our scientific observations on our ecosystem and when we were done, we packed and the teachers started dismissing us with our drivers. We arrived at the skating rink and I felt a chilling gust of wind against my neck because it was the only exposed place. We headed into the skate shop and that's where we traded our shoes in for our skates. I waddled towards the entrance into the ice rank and noticed lots of other kids waiting for the doors to open and so they did. The group of children now designated and were roaming their own territory on the rink. It took me a while to adjust myself to the ice. I needed some assistance. I yanked a cone a started skating. I picked up speed and started circulating the area. The teachers decided to start a game of ice hokey. This didn't trouble me though as I continued skating. I eventually drifted the cone away across the ice, only to make an encounter with it later on this went the same why for quite a while and eventually everybody left the rink and went to claim their shoes back. We drove back and continued with our day. The skating was fun and I anticipate the next time we go there.

Skating field trip!

I was shivering from the cold breeze coming from the rink, I had mixed feelings about this. I was scared to go on but had exciting adrenaline about it.

On the twenty ninth of November my class and I went skating. We approached the skating rink and I had a rush of adrenaline. I got my skates and the place where you get your skates smelt awful. It was like the smell of a hockey players locker room. But anyways I got my skates put them on and waited at the gate. We were assigned to go on the ice at ten thirty, the clock was ticking and I had even more adrenaline it was like the countdown to new year's but less dramatic.

The clock it ten thirty and we got on the ice. At first my legs were wobbly but later on I got used to it. In the first five minutes I fell on my knees and I got a big purple bruise, besides the fall it was still very fun skating. I played tag with my friends and raced across the rink and it was a blast. After all the fun it was time to leave and so I returned my skates and headed back to school.

Skating was super fun and I can't wait to go again!

Rogers Arena was filled with the enthusiasm of 20,00 people. The noise of the audience cheering rung through my ears.

On Thursday Nov. 22, 2018, Mr. Hong accompanied some grade sevens to Rogers Arena to attend We Day Vancouver. In order to enter for the draw, you have to be in the Me to We committee and hand in a paragraph of what you can do to help change the world to Ms. Tan. I was one of the lucky ones chosen to go to We Day along with other grade sevens. The lucky grade sevens were the ones whose names were randomly drawn by Mr. Hong and Mr. Fisher like the numbers drawn for a lottery.

One by one, guests went on stage and made speeches. They aimed to inspire students all across Vancouver to do one thing, make the world a better place. Many guests that were present includes Margaret Trudeau, Sophie Trudeau, Daniel and Henrik Sedin and the founders of Me to We, Craig and Marc Kielburger. I was starstruck by many famous people who attended this event.

The best part of the field trip was that Shawn Hook performed on stage. Shawn Hook is one of my favorite singers. The song I like most is "Sound Of Your Heart". I never thought that he would perform in front of me. I felt like I was dreaming, but soon enough, I started singing along with the audience like a normal fan would do.

After this field trip, I realized that I learned a lot. I learned that there are many things that I could do to change the world. By standing up to a bully, helping friends when they need me, standing up for what is right, and to simply recycle a plastic bottle can make a change in this world.

Ecosystem field trip: As the last few students entered the train, the doors slammed shut. We began rolling down the tracks. Thoughts of excitement and anxiousness rushed through my mind. It was the first field trip we had this year.

We stepped outside, lofty buildings populated the area. We took pictures as we slowly move out of downtown. As we reached coal harbor, urbanization was fading. Gusts of wind blew like miniature tornados. We maneuvered the undergrowth, as well as bypassing rocky surfaces.

"ALRIGHT!" Exclaimed Mr. Fisher, "We will be eating lunch here". In a sudden, everyone pulled out their bag lunches. Some people were cramming their mouths full of candy, for it was just Halloween a few days ago, and others were chasing their wrappers from the wind who stole it.

After we finished our lunches, we went back embarking on our trip. Many of our legs got sore and most started complaining. We tried to pull our team together but our efforts were worthless. Once we got back to the SkyTrain, Relive rushed thought my mind.

However, it was not over. The SkyTrain came to a halt, and we got back off. Tiredness had conquered our minds. Students travelled half as fast as they did before, delaying the arrival to our school.

Upon arrival, it was glorious. My aching legs finally healed. We were saved from our tiredness. It was a pretty eventful day, after all.

"Woah!" I thought in my mind. I ran towards it, taking out my phone. It was a beautiful blue heron, and it was standing on this tiny island while we were on our trip to Stanley Park.

It was our first field trip, on November 2. We walked for around 10 minutes to the SkyTrain station, and then got on the train. We jumped off, and then walked outside. I had forgot to bring my Compass Card, so I borrowed some money from my friend. We were allowed to bring out devices to take pictures for our project, and we started. At first, we were at the area where humans took over with their buildings and such, but then as we moved, we got into the more "forest-y" area.

It felt like forever being in there, and I almost tripped. The place though was very photogenic, and I loved it. It was very hot that day though, so I was sweating bullets. I was getting tired though, of seeing the same things for what felt like hours. So I asked Mr. Fisher, and me and Jessica ran ahead of the crowd. We kept on running, because Mr. Fisher said there was usually turtles ahead. Except, we didn't see any turtles. We saw something so much better.

A blue heron! I saw something up ahead and ran up. I saw the beautiful bird, and immediately got my phone out. I was shocked we saw something so amazing, as my expectations were pretty low. Since we were ahead of the crowd, it was easy to get some pics before everyone else came, and trust me—I got a TON. As people started coming, It got up and flew, and I was lucky enough to take a picture of that exact moment. Jess and I ran after it, taking more pictures.

Finally, after we got our the forest lane we got to Stanley Park!! We had lunch there, and Jessica brought sushi. Ivan and I chowed down on her lunch, and she got none. It's fine though, she said it was okay. There was a park there, and me and my friends were running around and doing dumb things. The most embarrassing part is something that'll I'll never forget. Ivan and I got really thirsty, and we didn't bring any water bottles. So, I came up the idea with drinking out of our hands. Emily C. poured some water into our hands and we drank it. Yes, we are animals, yes it was cringeworthy, yes it was dumb, but yes it was worth it because we got water.

Although Stanley Park wasn't exactly my favourite field trip, there was so many unforgettable jokes and sporks that I did there, which made it all worth it. (:

skating

Ha nothing was really intresting in the field trip or exiting so me start with this.

we start off the day with a car ride going to the ice rink. While we we're going to the ice rinkI wanted some sugar packs because I wasn't hyper ( when I'm not hyper i'm easly made mad or sad :( ).

When we arrived it looked like we were the first ones ( spoiler we weren't). So we took a few minutes to wait. We had a few people that we meet there before I got a bit impatient so I went exploring for place's to go where they might be. so me and a few others went exploring and went up the stairs. From the view up their we found a hall way to the changing room where everyone else was. so I lead the group where the others were and well we just skated. Nothing really happened then the class went back to the school where we all were for the rest of the day.

One thing did happen that was of intrest. Which was me try harding on something ( I feel ashamed. Why did I try hard !!! Better count that as the second time outside of in school activities then). So I was getting bored of walking around and talking about private stuff. So I played a bit of soccer and didn't want to try hard but I got a little into it so I went full try hard modeand went in whenever the ball was close to the net (sorry for the people I hurt B.T.W.). And that was pretty much all that I did in the day. See you in the next piece. sry for being so late I went to do a lot of stuff for both of the weekend days.

Skating.

Woosh, people go right by me when I’m getting on the ice an the icy cold air hits me. Excited and eager that we’re actually going skating. Wobbly at first but, after getting stable and graceful sliding through the ice.

On the day of November 29, Mr Fisher’s and Mr Hong’s class go skating at the ice rink of Kerrisdale. Carpooling with the parents of our classmate, maybe excited maybe worried no one will know. We reach the ice rink.

When we walk into the changing room to get our skates, the first thing that hits me is the smell. The smell of dirty feet, it isn’t the very pleasant smelling thing either. We get on our skates, put our helmet on. We’re ready to go on the ice.

Ecosystem Fieldtrip

As I walk through the chill breeze. I have come to realize that Vancouver is gorgeous. We people are so much caught up in the hustle of other things that we often neglect to taste and appreciate the magnificent view right in front of us.

Our first field trip of the year was to take a walk around Stanley Park, and snapshot pictures of the different ecosystems. It had been raining the whole week, but we got lucky. It was a glorious sunny day. With compass cards and lunches, we headed to our destination. We took a short ride on the Skytrain to downtown and then started our walk. Fourteen kilometers. As we were getting closer to Stanley Park, we began to take more photos and try our best to document our observations and discoveries of the ecosystems on our way. The sun shone on us with warmth. The water along the trail was sparkling in the sunlight. We were exposed to the beauty of nature.

As we kept walking, we greedily breathed the most fresh air. Different creatures started to enter our view and we became more excited. For a while, as if the world stopped, only the noises of kids’ chatting and cameras’ clicks stood out. The background in which we were was so quiet. We could easily hear birds chirping and pay attention to the sweet aroma of the trees and other plants. The great satisfaction and joy miraclely filled me right away.

Around lunchtime, we took a rest and had lunch at the beach. As I bit into my sandwich I could smell the salty fragrance of the sea. It tasted like a “real sandwich”. Then we started on our way back. By then, everyone was tired. We forgot all about the pictures, our goal was to get back to school. It was a short way back, but even now, I still think of all the sights I captured during the trip.

Some Vancourians like to go sightseeing in other places, but Vancouver is worth your time to experience with distinctiveness every day! I now have a new goal in life. To spy something beautiful around and beyond me every day.

Skating

It was on a Thursday at 10:00 AM, every one in Division 1 and 2 we’re excited for skating, except for me, because on the day before that day I sprained my ankles. We got called to the cars, the ride was about 10 minutes. We got to the place but I forgot the name of it. Everyone got off the car, then we went in, and I was kind of confused because I wasn’t use to seeing that, but everyone went on the left so I was like huh why don’t I go that way too.

I was trying to get a good sized helmet, but I just couldn’t find one that fits, but I finally managed to find one, that fits. I lined up for a pair for skates, I asked for a sized 8 one, when I got it I sat on a bench, but it was really difficult for me to put it on, so I asked Kaden’s dad to help me. After ages I finally got it on, I went on the ice, I took a cone because they ran out of those big things, I was going really slow because I didn’t want my ankles to get worst. All I really did was skating on the side. But then I felt like there’s a huge thing in my skate, so I went back inside, took it off and tried to get out the thing, but it was just a metal bar on the skates, so I asked for another pair I got that on and got back on the ice.

We were finally done, I got my skates off I returned them. We got back in the car, and got back to school.
