Today we stared the grade 6 and 7 math program. This year I am trying out the JUMP math program for the first time. Math assignments are always due the next day unless told otherwise. We also completed most of our class C-Charts that set out behaviour expectations for both teachers and students in many different situations and settings. We have a few more to complete but we are well on our way to knowing exactly what is expected  while in school. In the afternoon, we got started on our plant ID project (CLICK) where students are studying and learning to identify up to 20 different plants in our community. Student engagement was at near 100% for over an hr. This was so good to see. The learning was tangible. I was so happy and proud of div 2. today. Amazing!

#THE LEARNINGNEVERSTOPS

Today, we finally finished all our C-charts and it is very important to make them. C- Chart stands for "Criteria Chart". It tells us how to behave during an activity. We made these C-chart according to the learning intention and we give out ideas what should we put on there. Is really important to make a C-chart because it will remind us what we should do during that activity. We made 4-5 C-charts already and I'll be talking about two of them today. The first one is C-chart for independent work. We always review this because we had a lot of independent work time. Some examples of this C-chart are---Students: Teachers:
-Focus on your work -Put on some relaxing music
- Be quiet -Reivew the C-chart
Another C-chart is about entering the classroom---
Students: Teacher:
-Wash your hands -Wash your hands
-Greet teachers -Greet students
-Prepare for the day -Take attendence
Now you know how important C-chart is and don't forget to make one for yourself!

The C-chart examples are a bit messy I will re-do it
Independent work time:
Students:
-Focus on work
-Be quiet
Teachers:
-Play some relxing music
- Review C-chart
Entering classroom:
Students:
-Wash your hands
-Prepare for the day
-Greet teachers
Teacher:
-Wash your hands
-Greet students
-Take attendence

C-Charts are very useful in the classroom, as they remind you of the rules when necessary. C-Charts stand for Criteria Charts and it is a chart of criteria; one being the side for students, and the other for the teacher(s). They are very important since they clearly state the rules for both the students and the teacher, and they also are in a handy chart. They are made by the students with help of the teacher, and we fill in what we (reasonably) want the criteria to look like. Some examples of the C-Charts we made include the one for entering the classroom, the one for walking in the hallway, and the one for reading/eating lunch. An example of the action criteria for the C-Chart of walking in the hallway would be:
Student: Single file, wear your mask, social distance from other cohorts, etc.
Teacher: Give directions, wear your mask, etc.
This is why C-Charts are so important, and I hope that we use them more throughout the year.

C-Chart
In Mr. Fisher's class we use C-Charts (Criteria Charts) to help students and teachers to be reminded by rules when necessary.
C-Charts are made by the teacher and students. The teacher asks students for ideas to write in the C-Chart and after he writes them on Microsoft Word then, he prints it out and tapes it around the classroom. They are important since, they tell students and teachers rules at specific times of the day. Examples for C-Chart:
Story:
Students
pay attention to reader don't get distracted
Teacher
read in a normal place not too slow or fast
Independent work time
Students
be quiet and work on your assignment
Teachers
help students with their assignment
These are some reasons why C-Charts are very important in a classroom.

Regulations and laws are essential for humans to all cooperate. In fact, that is the same reason we make our C-charts. Doing so allows us all to be on the same page on the requirements for the activity. They are made with two columns. One of them for the students, they other for the teacher(s). Under each column, are the things that they are meant to do. Some examples of C-charts that we made include walking in the hallway, eating, story, and independent work time. A C-chart for walking in the hall way might look like:
Students
- Be silent
- Walk on the right
- Listen to instructions
- Don't block door ways
- Walk in single file
- Wear a mask.
Teacher(s)
- Give directions
- Remind students of C-Chart
- Wear a mask
- Be a role model.
This year is going to be the most regulated year ever!

Hi Jeffrey,
Nice introduction! I noticed that you did not follow all of the criteria. May be you could look at that?

Kaitlyn

C-Charts stand for Criteria charts. As a class, we come up with expectations and rules to follow, for teachers and students. Every C-Chart is different, because there are different things you should do during different classes and blocks. Like if it's independent work time, you wouldn't start talking and distracting other students, you should be silent and only ask questions related to the topic. And for the C-Chart on walking in the hallway, it's completely different than the independent work time C-Chart, because it's a different subject. This year, we have very different things to add to the list, like wear a mask, and wash your hands before and after eating. Students and teachers do different things, but somethings they do together
Independent work time
Students
-Be silent
-Only ask questions related to the topic.
-Focus on your own work.
- help others if needed
-
Teacher
-Provide an alternate work space for students
-Play music when asked politely
-Answer questions
-Remind students the criteria for independent work time

It is important to follow what it says on the C-Chart because it would be helpful and useful to everyone. Especially during this time, most things are different;

Entering the classroom
Students
-Enter calmly and quietly
-Wash your hands before touching anything
-Wear your mask when in the hallway and try to wear your mask in your classroom
-Wait for everyone to wash their hands, and read or draw or complete homework quietly.
-Say good morning to teacher
Teacher
-Wear your mask in the hallway
-Wash your hands before touching anything
-Do attendance
-Makes sure students follow the criteria
-Greet students with enthusiasm
Everybody follow the C-Charts and everybody will succeed!

Hi Kaitlyn, I just want to ask in the fifth or sixth row, do you mean students and teachers the same thing instead of together?

Kaitlyn
9/22/2020 10:22:26 pm

Hi Gabriel, I meant that some things we (students)do most things differently and somethings both our classmates and the teacher do. For example, the something the teacher would do and not the students is 'read fluently and according to punctuation. Add voices and emotion to make reading more entertaining.' We wouldn't have to do the same thing because we aren't the ones reading the book, but somethings the teacher and us would do together is 'wash hands before and after eating'
Does that make more sense?

When completing a task, it is always essential for one to complete it well and timely. In fact, there is a tool that will exactly do those things. That tool is called a C-Chart (Action Criteria Chart). C-Charts are T-Tables that list things you should do during your a period of time. Because you will do better at a task when using a C-Chart and you will not bother anybody, it is very important to make and follow an Action Criteria Chart. They are made with various columns (Depending on how many people will use it), then listing things of what that person(s) need to follow. For example, my class made charts on what to do during lessons and what to do when walking in the hallway. Below is what our class did:

INDEPENDENT WORK TIME:

Students:
- Be quiet (only talk about activity related topics)
- Ask questions when necessary
- Focus on work
- Self-regulate (use a reasonable voice volume and keep all actions appropriate)

Teacher(s):
- Remind students of criteria
- Answer questions
- Self-regulate (use a reasonable voice volume and keep all actions appropriate)
- Provide alternate work space if needed

WALKING IN THE HALLWAY:

Students:
- Be silent
- Wear a mask
- Stay two metres apart from other cohorts
- If waiting for teacher, stand at the side and make sure doors and openings are not blocked
- Walk on the right in single file

Teacher(s):
- Wear a mask
- Stay two metres apart from other cohorts
- Walk on the right side
- Remind students of criteria
- Be a role model

Give it a try; you will definitely see the difference!

Matthew

C-Charts are for students to follow the rules. All C-Charts come with success criteria. The are important because the tell students what to do. hey are made by rules in what students should do.

WALKING IN THE HALLWAYS
Students
- Wear a mask
-Stay on right-side
-stay two meters

Teachers
-tell students where to go
-wear a mask
-stay two meters

Kai

Matthew, this is a good start. However, you should include more details (check the success criteria and make sure you answer all the questions). Also, you should remember to self edit your writing before you submit.

Ryan
9/22/2020 08:35:47 pm

I think this is a good start. Though in my opinion, I think you should add a little more. If you can, can you clarify what "stay two meters" is?

Kai
9/22/2020 07:48:25 pm

Even though I wasn’t in class today, I will try to answer this question based on what I remember.

A C-Chart is a list of behavioural expectations for both students and teacher at school. They are made by having the students come up with ideas and have the teacher approve it. They are important because everyone knows what to expect and how to behave. Two C-Charts we have made so far are walking in the hall and silent work time. While walking in the hall, students are expected to wear masks at all times, and teachers should direct students where to go. During silent work time, students are expected to focus on their tasks and teachers should answer questions when asked.

@ Mr. Fisher, one more question: what supplies could I bring tomorrow for the plant ID project?

Gabriel

A device, and whatever you need to bring or download to make a powerpoint or anything else you want to present it.

Mr. Fisher

@Kai-Yes, you will get you math book tomorrow and can make up the work. Everything you need for the project will be at school, but we will have to find you a group as we made the groups today while you were absent. I hope you are feeling better:)

Gabriel

C-Charts are criteria charts, it's when you have a list of expectations for both students and teachers to follow. How we create it is when Mr.Fisher gives us a topic and asks for our ideas and suggestions we choose to always follow when we are doing that topic physically. They are very crucial because if we were walking in the hallways, and everyone was just chatting, running around etc. Then it would be a catastrophe. Here's an example for walking in the hallways:
Students:
-Wear masks
-Walk on the right
-Leave the doorways accessible
-Be silent the whole way
Teachers:
-Wear masks
-Remind students of the C-Charts
-Stay silent
-Walk on right side
That is a C-Chart for walking in the hallway. If you are one of the people who likes to create a disaster everywhere, hopefully you would take my C-Chart as an reference.

What C-charts are
C-charts, or Criteria Charts are a list of certain criteria that a certain group or person should be meeting. They usually have a learning intention at the top and are made by listing criteria. For example, a criterion listed on a C-chart for students could be, students should hand in homework before the deadline. Most C-charts refrain from listing what you shouldn’t do and focus more on what you should be doing. C-charts are very important as they help guide the group or person to doing better at their work. Our class has made C-charts for students and teacher this year. Some of the criteria we gave for students when working in class were: Do not distract others and to focus on the assignment, be respectful, and ask teachers instead of students when dealing with a problem. Some of the criteria given for teachers when there was independent work time were: Review criteria before working, self-regulate volume and actions, and answer questions and to support learning. In conclusion, C-charts are great for helping students and teacher to better improve themselves.

C-charts

C-charts stands for criteria charts. A C-chart is used to remind participants what to expect during the activity. Mr. Fisher uses C-charts frequently so that we (that includes me) to do what is expected. A C-chart is suitable for the participants because it also reminds what the maker needs to do.

For example, the C-chart for walking in the hallways is:

STUDENTS TEACHERS
- Wear your mask -Wear your mask
-Walk on the right -Walk on the right
side of the hallway side of the hallway
-Physical distance -Physical distance
with all non-cohort with all non-cohort
people people
-Be quiet & calm -Be quiet & calm
-avoid blocking doors -Be a role model
-Follow the teacher to -avoid blocking doors
the destination -lead students to the destination

There are expectations for both participants, so that's what makes it fair. This is all I know about C-charts. Can you tell me more?

Colleen
9/22/2020 09:47:22 pm

A C-chart is a criteria chart. C-charts are important because you need a list on what to do everyday even if you remember what you need to do you should still have it as a reminder to follow it. How you make a C-chart is by getting a thing you want to make C-chart for. Then you make a list of things you might do when doing that thing. For example, if you want to go outside some of the things on the list might be to wear a mask or not touch everything. Some examples of C-charts our class made are how to walk good in the hallways and for when we do silent work time. One example of what the students need to do when walking in the hall is staying on the right and one for teachers is leading the students.

C-Chart stands for Criteria chart, they’re used to help us not forget what to do. They are important because they can help remind us on behavior for that specific time. They’re made when our class comes together and we agree and disagree on things about what we should be doing. We have to give things to do for the students and teacher(s) (Maybe including Ms.Kim) An example of a C-chart for going somewhere could be

Students:
-wear a mask
-don’t touch everything
-be quiet
-social distance

Teacher
-wear mask
-social distance
-explain where we’re going

C-Chart stands for Criteria chart, and in a c-chart there are rules written for students and teachers to follow the basic thing everyday! C-charts are even a little reminder of what important things you have to do.

HOME LEARNERS:
Students:
*Check your homework daily on the class website
*Compete your PAR everyday!
*Ask appropriate questions, and stay on topic
*Self regulate
*SOAR (Supportive, open-minded, awesome and respectful)

*SOAR (Supportive, open-minded, awesome and respectful)

TEACHERS:

*Wear a mask
*Answer questions
* Self regulate
*SOAR (Supportive, open-minded, awesome and respectful)
*Stay at a proper distance (stay 2 meters away from everyone)
