Can you identify this beautiful little sapling?

Today we first hip-hop dance lesson from the school wide dance instructor. Students will be learning a sequence of steps and will put on a performance Thursday at 2 PM. This is going to be awesome so get your dancing shoes ready. We also started our first science unit today focussing on plants in the local community and how indigenous people use them. And in the next two weeks students will be able to identify over 15 different local plants.

I think it is important to learn how to identify the plants in our community because it helps us to understand and appreciate our community. Our place is well decorated with many beautiful plants and they can only grow up well under certain climate conditions. By observing any changes of the plants growing in our community, we can also understand how the environment changes due to human activities affecting the plants. On the other hand, while learning how Indigenous used the plants can let us understand and respect their cultures.
I am grateful that I have chance to learn all these information. It’s because the more I knew about plants, the more I love our community. I appreciate it giving me such beautiful scenery with natural seasonal decorations.

Q 1.I think we are learning the names of plants because identifying things can be useful for instance, if someone asked you to find a plant to cure a disease or something you would know what it is just by the name of that plant and find it nearby.

Q 2. I think we are learning the indigenous uses of plants because certain Plants may have medicinal qualities or have some form of other use that may be useful in your life.

Q 3. As explained before plants may have medicinal qualities as well as being used for cooking and telling the difference between one plant and another by using it's name to identify itself.

I think it is important to learn about the plants in our community. It helps us appreciate and take care of our plants in the local community.

I think we are learning the indigenous peoples' uses of these plants because, the indigenous people were and will always be, a big part of Canada, by acknowledging their uses of the plants we studied, we show them that we know that indigenous people were treated unfairly in the past, and that we live, play, and work on the unceded territories of indigenous people.

I think this will benefit us because if I go camping, then I won't eat any poisonous plants. Therefore, I would also which plants are edible.

It is essential to know about and be able to identify the plants in your community because it teaches you about your environment and the wildlife surrounding it. Therefore, you have understanding of the native flora and fauna of your community. I think this is why it's important to identify plants in our area. Learning the indigenous uses of these plants can also help us more to understand and appreciate the wildlife. This kind of knowledge can certainly help you in the future by supporting your understanding and observations of a certain area.

There are different plants arounds us everywhere. It's important that we learn about them because we use plants daily with out us knowing. I think we're learning about plants because it's nice to know the plants around you and what each plant do for us everyday. We're also learning about the indigenous ways to use plants because we build on the knowledge we know and if we don't know the history of how we used plants back then we can't build up our knowledge of how we use plants. For example, indigenous peoples used plants for making medicine and tools. Now we use plants, like trees, to make paper and furniture. It's knowledge is beneficial to our lives because we'll know which plants are poisonous and which each ones are edible.

I think that we are learning to identify the plants in our community because it would help us in life and show that we care, appreciate and know at least a little bit about the land that we live in. I also think that we are learning the indigenous uses of plants in our community because it would be fun and interesting to learn and compare the ways different people use the same herbs/tools. This knowledge will help in my life because if I went camping/hiking in the forest/mountain, I would be able to identify the plants and be able to tell what they were used for and how you can make things like, for example, maple syrup out of a maple tree.

1. I think we need to learn the plant in our area because then we know which ones are dangerous and also what they do like maybe they add taste or they cure sore throat or something. Also it's just good to have that information in your brain.
2. We learn the indigenous uses of plants because that could really help us. Plants could be used for many things. It could be used to cure diseases or make things healthier, taste better and more.
3. This may help me because I will know which plants are edible or not poisonous like if i wanted a dog, i would know what is good for it or if i'm working as a doctor, knowledge of plants and what they can do would benifit me.

I think we are learning to identify and learn about many of the plants in our community because it could help the climate. Finding that some of the plants could be endangered, you could help its species by telling other people to try not to cause any harm.

I think learning the indigenous uses of the plants would be helpful because you can learn history form it, by imagining how the indigenous people lived. Like how they used the materials around them to help them live easier. And, just saying but if we do go back to the “dark” ages, it could help.

This knowledge could help, because if you don’t know if it’s edible or not, you could die, be in pain or it could just taste sweet and not have any major change in the body at all. Also, because it could affect your life, like health. The plant could be a cure in diseases, or it could again kill you right away.

I think we are learning to identify plants in the community because if can be very useful in so many ways like which ones are edible, and it's just good sometimes to know about the things around you and the community you are living it.
I think we are learning the indigenous uses of plants because the indigenous peoples are mostly more experienced with different kinds of plants and often use natural remedies and use leaves and flowers to do so many things.
There are so many ways that this knowledge can help us such as making medicine, knowing which ones I can eat and which are poisonous, and it can help you understand how to take better care of plants so they can last longer and help us more.

Today we were introduced to the point identification project. I think that it is very important to learn about the different plants in your community for a variety of reasons. Starting off, some reasons being that we never really pay attention to what’s around us, although they do so much for us. For example different trees allow us to even breath, since they breath in carbon-dioxide and breath out oxygen for us to breath in which is then turned into a cycle. Not only that, but we also don’t give them enough credit. Such reasons being able to clean the air by absorbing different toxins, increasing the humidity (if needed) and by again, producing oxygen which is very important at for human life. Not only the fact that it helps only with us, it also helps with biodiversity and even animal habitats. Other animals may live in a forest that needs plants, and some may not. While other will also need a certain type of plant which makes it important for us to know which animals needs what plant. Plus, during the time that we were cutting the trees down they were still providing us with the air we need to survive. As well as the time before that, when the first people were here they used the trees, plants, and everything they got knowledgeably and also took great care of them. We should enforce that by learning the different plants and doing our part.

I have multiple reasons as to why we are learning about the indigenous uses of plants in my community. Such as how much the plants mean to them. After all, they are the one of the first ever people to live, eat, make, and discover things related to plants. One of the main things they did with plants were to promote ways of healthy living and cure different illnesses. The California poppy is one of the many flowers that the Ohlone people used to make medication. One of the way to do so is to crush their seeds and mix them with bear fat as a tonic. Since there are so many different medications which are prepared carefully and work, it must mean they have put a lot of effort into researching about each and every plant to the extent that they know what every specific plant is used for. Therefore, we should respect that they took the time out of their lives to do so and learn about them willingly.

So far, I’ve been talking about how this is has helped them in the past, but if you really do learn all of this and go through with this, what will it do for you? Well, there are a lot of different possibilities that may happen where this knowledge will be helpful. For example, if there is a earthquake and everything is destroyed, the only way you may survive is to live off of plants. Which you will not be able to do if you don’t have such knowledge. That’s not the only scenario. Some other times this will be useful could be when there is a shortage of food, when you are lost in a forest, and even something as simple as gathering things on a farm. Where there is a shorting of food you can eat the plants, where there is a situation of when you are lost in forest you can live off of plants, and when you are on vacation with your friends, family, etc. You can show and talk to them about the things that you know of plants!

Q1. I think we should learn to identify many plants in our community because some could be dangerous and some could be used for medicine and food.

I think we are working on learning to identify many of the plants around us because it helps us appreciate and connect to our plants in the community.

I think that we are learning the Indigenous peoples use of these plants because the Indigenous people are a big part of Canada's history and learning about them and how they eat, make and learn in the beautiful environment of Canada is a very important thing. And these things we can learn from them about plants can really help us to cure diseases and make foods taste better and more.

Knowledge about plants around us can help us in many ways. For example, what if something happens and you don’t have anything to eat except plants like earthquakes? You wouldn’t know what is edible or not if you have no idea about the plants. But not just that in the future, you could make stuff like medicine that has not been created yet and help many around the world.

I think we are learning to identify these plants so we can use them when we are in danger outside. For the same reason, its important to know the uses of each plant to survive outside if needed. This knowledge will help me in life because if I happen to be stranded in a forest with no help, I can atleast survive until I get rescued.

Today we learned about a lot of different local plants in the community. It is important to learn about all the plants in our community because, if I am every on a walk with a close friend or family member and they accidentally run into a poisonous plant, I could identify it and tell whoever is helping them what it was. I could also be prepared for a test that might come. I think we are learning about these plants because plants are extremely useful in a person's life. They provide fresh air, food and many more, so it is important to learn it at the beginning of your life so you can remember it. I believe we are learning the indigenous uses for plants because many plants have special qualities and uses that others don’t, so by learning their uses for them might help us learn about it.

Plants are essential to our planet, us, and other living things. They provide us food, shelter, oxygen, and products such as firewood, timber, medicine, rubber, etc. It is important to recognize different types of plants in your community for the following reasons:

Firstly, there are many plants that are harmful to humans and animals. For example, poison ivy, poison oak, giant hogweed, and poison hemlock. It will be dangerous not knowing these types of plants as it is deadly when encountered.

Secondly, it can be a source of medicine that can be helpful to treat diseases. Numerous herbal plants can cure illnesses such as chamomile (for anxiety and relaxation), ginger (for nausea and motion sickness), garlic (helps lower cholesterol and blood pressure), and coneflower (for cough and colds).

Lastly, having the knowledge of what type of plants are sources of food and nutrients. Some plants are a reliable source of vitamin A (such as squash), vitamin B (spinach), vitamin D (mushroom), and more! It is quite impressive on how much vitamins you could get when eating some of these plants.

Learning where the plants originated in your community can make you understand on how to care for them. For example, the plant cactus does not need too much watering and tropical plants (such as palm trees) cannot survive in a frigid winter atmosphere. Knowing the indigenous uses of plants can greatly help you take care of your own garden!

Knowing the importance and identification of plants will help me take care of my own garden and appreciate the beauty of what is around me. This time I can now be more cautious of my environment and help solve global warming by planting more trees. I fully respect the plants in my community as well.

We see plants all the time. Sometimes, we walk past them so many times that they simply blend into the background, unnoticed. However, plants are a very important part of our lives. So when we learn to identify them, we are given knowledge on how to make use of them in our lives. Identifying plants is important because it teaches us how to distinguish between similar looking plants. This is important, because while plants seem harmless, many species are poisonous and should be stayed away from. Being able to identify these sort of poisonous plants can help you.
I think we are learning the indigenous use of plants because I know that plants and herbs are an important part of Indigenous medicine. Learning about how they use plants to heal wounds and make medication can teach us how to make use of the plants around us in case of an emergency.
Plants have many uses that we don't know about, so it is important to learn about them and use the information we gain now to help us later in life.

Today we started our point identification project. Personally, I think it is particularly important to learn about the diverse types of plants. Firstly, learning about these unique plants is a way of acknowledging them because they provide so much. For example, plants play an incredibly significant role in providing habitats for a vast number of varied species including birds, badgers and even bats. Also, plants provide better air quality. This is due to the presence of these plants decreasing the number of pollutants due to them just absorbing all the toxic gases. Not only that but plants help keep good soil levels by holding the soil together reducing the chances of soil erosion.

There are many reasons why it is important to learn the indigenous uses of these plants. One of the reasons it is important to learn about the indigenous uses is Canada has had a history of mistreating indigenous people so by recognizing these indigenous uses it could be one of the many steps to that path of reconciliation. A second reason it is important is these indigenous uses are used in medicine. So, for instance if someone had a really irritating skin rash you would be able to use aloe fora to treat that rash. Also, indigenous uses of plants encourage biodiversity by building shelters and providing food for wildlife

This knowledge could help me in many ways. For example, if I went camping and my dad asked me to get some berries, I would be able to tell if they were ripe or not. Or if me and my family went on a road trip, I would be to identify what a dandelion is.

I think it can become really useful and essential to learn to identify certain plants in our community, learning about these plants may help us identify the harmful ones to be cautious and stay at a distance. There can be many uses for plants, I think it may also be really important to know how we used them in the past and know our culture and history with plants. Some people might see plants as decoration but plants can provide us with food, Fiber, shelter, medicine and fuel. So the conclusion comes that it’s so important to learn and understand plants and nature, and How they benefit us in so many different ways that we don’t even realize.

I think that we need to study these plant species, so if we are picking a garden we don't pick the wrong ones, and its also fun to walk around and discover new plants and leaves.

Also I think we are learning about how the indigenous people used plants is so we can learn what it was like for the first nations to use them handcrafted back then.

After we learn all about plants we can use this information like when we are walking outside and we see a dangerous plant (example poison ivy) we can step away from it so we don't get sick or hurt.

Q1. It good to know those plants because some are rare to know if it is edible, can use as medicine or poisonous plants that we should be aware.
Q2. It is important to know because for our safety either can help us or harm us . Also for our ecosystem like the bees and birds need those flowering plants for them to survive and multiply.

I think it is important to learn about different native plants and their uses. Indigenous uses, to be specific.
Today we were introduced to our plant identification project, which required us to learn about native plants and their indigenous uses. By learning their indigenous uses, we are spreading their culture and keeping tradition alive.
It’s also important to know which plants are dangerous, safe, or helpful. Some plants may be poisonous, and some plants may help us grow healthier or treat diseases.

I think why we gonna learn plants in our community beacause if someone don't know anything about plants and you can help them and they will think you know a lot of things in plants and It's always good to learn more than others。

1I think that we are learning to identify plants in our community the particular reason for the circumstance is that to identify wich species of plants may harm people or like to make medicine, in conclusion I think we are learning to identify plants for knowledge.

2. I think that we are learning the indigenous uses of the plants in our community to know how to use them for injuries, to make medicine and such out of them.
