Writng tip #10

11/27/2018

Picture
We have now had 10 writing tip lessons focusing on the success criteria for powerful personal writing. I was very happy to see how well everyone was able to incorporate these tips into their writing on yesterday's PAR. Your writing is improving every time you add these tips into your work. Keep it up! We also continued on with novel approach and had another  lesson on making our thinking visible. We focused on the strategies of: setting a purpose, making connections and using background knowledge, and visualizing. In the afternoon, we carried on with our inquiry. Students had to use many reading strategies in inquiry, especially monitoring comprehension as some of the research we are finding is difficult to understand.  The skills we are learning in both inquiry and novel approach are very important as they are used in all subject areas at school and in many activities outside of school as well.
1) SKATING:
  • We still need drivers for Skating (click here to sign up)

  • How was what you did today different than screen time? Which is more healthy? Include these ideas in your piece
  • Paragraph plan:
Part 1: Introduction:
Topic Sentence: Screen time is serious concern in the world today. (Write about the benefits of less screen time from the video)

Scientists say that 1-2 hours of screen time is the maximum. Also scientists recommend to shut off your electronic devices at least an hour before you go to bed.

To make screen time more healthy you can stand up at times, grab a banana or apple, And every time you have a commercial you can move around. Researchers say that over 60% of Americans are obese since they eat unhealthy foods when they watch tv.

I thought that it was great that we had 30 minutes to play outside. It was way better than sitting at a computer. But if you compare it to computer time you would gain more fat and wont get to exercise.

My conclusion is that overall screen time is not bad when it is closely regulated

Nathan

Having a device with you at all times is not healthy. Let me tell you why.
Scientists suggest to only have 1-2 hours of screen time daily for multiple reasons. Its not healthy to sit for a very long period of time, you might be eating unhealthy food and will not be aware of how much your eating, and it can cause serious head aches.

Some things you can do are try a activity. You might really like an activity that might cause you to stop screen time and play more outside. You also can possibly have a little screen time but you must make sure you take a stretch between commercials and 20-30 minutes.

Today at school we had a huge game of basketball with Mr. Fisher and Mr. Hong. It was fun because we don't usually play with them and there were lots of people. This was a healthy option because we got to move around a lot instead of just having screen time and eating unhealthy snacks.

Overall i think that screen time is not important and instead of having it as an accessory it should be a treat.

I will be coming to skate

Screen time is bad because it makes you lazy or you'll start to sit to much. You will also start to be adicted to you device.

You can make it more healthy by stoping and exersize when thier is a commercial break. You can also just not touch your device and go outside breath the freash air (voice in my head) No.

What I did was just play with some of my friends and did some dumb stuff but that's what's fun to me! It's also much more heathy then sitting around and watching shows.(voice in my head) No.

so that concludes
me talking about screen adicition. And why it's bad for you to watch something for a long period of time. bye.

Society is more advanced than before. We have all different kinds of technology around us. It might be helpful in some ways, but too much screen time is not good for you. Some adults are concerned about this. It can affect your brain and health. Your eyes could be damage form the bright lights.

Ways we can prevent this is to put a limit in your screen time. 1-2 hours maximum each day. You should also take breaks and try to move to keep your brain and body healthy. If your eating while watching its best to eat something healthy. Always try to be social and out-going.

Today our class went outside for a fun-break. I chatted with some friends and laughed together. It was better than having screen time because I am able to socialize and have fun. It was great to take a break from work and screen to actually talk to People and play games. Especially watching both our teachers play basketball was pretty fun.

I know sometimes that people just want to be alone and entertain themselves and a way to entertain themselves is by watching YouTube or a TV show. That understandable, but it doesn't mean you need to do it all the time. In my opinion, you just need to have a set time when using devices. Its always good to take a break and have some time for yourself and or with others.

Screen time is a serious concern in the world today. Millions of kids use electronics, and most of them own one. Electronics, such as computer or phone have a positive impact, countered by a negative impact. However, the negative side of technology is being used more as well as being created.

There are tens of benefits of not having screen time. One of them, increasing one's exercise, which allows them to be more active. Having less screen time can also help one in their sleep. Without a screen, they will not get addicted, yet, they will receive all the benefits.

One can improve their screen time by following the advice of scientists. They can eat a healthy snack while watching TV. They can also take a break often, usually during commercials. Otherwise, they can use their screens anytime other than one hour before sleep.

Today when we went outside is obviously more healthy than screen time. We were being active while playing basketball, as well as practicing our communication skills. Clearly, today's time outside is more beneficial than screen time.

In conclusion, technology is an essential part towards our society. It is a way of communication and learning. However, is technology is being wrongly used, it can cause disastrous effects.

I know you asked us to write par about bad influence of screen time, but I have strong opinion that screen time is good.

I feel like all people around us have been sucked into their screens. All around you, you will see people using devices. We have went so far but why would people create it if it so bad? No, not money. Perhaps more entertainment and learning.

I love “screen time” and agree that it might not be best for people at times but it can often also help. It might not be the best for there eyes, knowledge and behaviour but it can work depending on how Parants act towards there child.
Some parents are on there screens all day, others like to play games with there children. I think it’s bad to put time limits and game blockers because it’s basicly telling the child the parants dosent trust them.

Instead I think all parants should take time to show there kids appreciation and love instead of ordering them around. Perhaps in a simple game of cards or taking them shopping with them. Parants don’t need to go all out or not show anything at all . Instead I think the simplest of things matter and that’s why children today go on there phones and screens so much.

If parants would spend more time with there children they will not have to put time limits.

It is fine to have any opinion, but even with your opinion you can present the benefits of less screen time. The idea being presented is that 1-2 hrs of screen time per day is enough and that more can be unhealthy. Do you think 1-2 hrs is not enough? Please elaborate. I really like hearing new ideas and opinions.

Screen time. A well debated topic for parents that have concerns for there children's health or eyes. However it is true that screen time is bad more your health, but a little won't hurt right?

How much screen time is too much screen time? 1-2 hours of screen time at once can be very unhealthy however you can take small breaks in between every 30 minutes to minimized the damage. You can make screen time more healthy for you if you simply took breaks in between.

What I did in my free time today was a challenge kind of activity and I think I wouldn't necessary think that I would prefer this activity over screen time. But I just overall prefer going outside and playing rather than watching iPad all the time. However that activity was obviously more healthier than screen time and it was still fun overall

My opinion on screen time is that it can be very unhealthy if you look at your iPad for like 5 hours straight. However screen time can be both enjoyable and less unhealthy if everyone took brakes every 30 minutes.

It all started a few decades ago with the invention of the World Wide Web. It's astounding to think that it started as a communications tool for the United States Military - considering it's uses today. Back then, phones were indeed already commonplace - but they were used to actual calling.

In what seemed like a few short years, technology has become essential, or so it seems. Indeed, they simplified many aspects of our lives - but complicated others. For instance, it's a simple logic step to think that if you're stuck on your screen, you will not be socializing nor doing activities in the real life environment. Why is this important? Because our brain works on neurons - simply put, it learns connecting memories to one another, strengthening understanding. I can't imagine how it would be beneficial to have a bunch of memories about sitting on a chair and looking at an LED screen....

But that's not all! There are noticeable health issues related to too much screen time. If you're wondering, experts estimate "too much screen time" to be over two hours. For instance, studies show that too much screen time is linked to higher weight and an unhealthy body overall, in addition to affecting sleep and vision.

It's never too late to change your habits, however. Possibly the most simple way to do this is setting a limit on your screen time. It could be a number - like sixty minutes - or something subjective, such as "when this video ends". From experience, it's harder to do the second one... who wouldn't want to watch more epic fail videos on Youtube? But I digress - simply put, just set a time limit on how much screen time you think is healthy.

At school today, Mr. Fisher gave us some time to go outside and play. Personally, I enjoyed some basketball with my friends and just talked. Like Ester said, it was especially fun to watch Mr. Fisher and Mr. Hong play basketball.

I totally understand that the Web has made our lives easier in many ways. It is now quite simple to research. You go on Google and google whatever you want to know. But playing games 24/7 cannot give you any benefits I can think of off the top of my head. So be sure to take a break every once in a while!

-Joseph

Less screen time is beneficial for children because they should see the world like it is right now and enjoy the fresh air and nature because we don't know how the planet is going to be in the future.

To make screen time a healthy activity I would decrease game time and Instagram time. Today we had a 30 minute free time, I played basketball and it was very fun. It was very different than screen time because it is a healthy activity, I exercised and socialized so it was a good activity. Screen time is a non healthy activity because it becomes an obsession which is not good for you or for anyone

I thought my screen time is perfect until i saw Nick's post. THE BEST SCREEN TIME is 1-2 hours, oh man, that is not awesome.
But i should think about this, is not healthy if the screen time was taken over our outside time.
The thing to make screen time more healthy?( NOPE) even tho you are studying( @THELEARNINGNEVERSTOP) on your device, is still bad for your eyes( as i am writing this, i am on my computer for??? 1234.... just kidding.),
for the 30 min outside time, i am not there, but i think i would play basketball if i am there, i think is gonna to be fun playing!( isn't it more fun playing a online game with you friend? fortnite?)
ya kinda, but outside game..... is more FUN.....
actually outside game is more helpful for your eyes, and your social communicate.

So we should go outside and go have some fun :0

Screen time has become a serious concern in the world. Technology has become apart of our lives and we say that we really need. If you do have a technology addiction, this could be very hard to break through because technology is everywhere. We use it in our learning, communication, entertainment, research and more. This addiction could be like a drug or alcohol.

Somethings that you could do in your spare time are to play outside or talk with someone. It's better if you interact with someone then going on your devices because you can actually think, talk and experience. You can draw your thoughts, sing songs and play games. This can keep your mind off your device. Some benefits of avoiding your devices include lighter moods, better sleep habits and more that could help your social life and your body.

In conclusion, regulating your screen time could help yourself and is essential for a healthy body.

Screen time can be extremmely unhealthy for you, espescially when you have too much.

Too much screen time isn't good for your brain or your body. It can make falling asleep harder and you won't sleep well, which isn't good for your body if you aren't properly energized.

Taking screens away for the most part of your life can improve your mood, your imagination, and your sleep. It also gets you more interested in physical activities and can improve your verbal speech.

To help make your screen time healthy, you can get up every 20 minutes or so after turning on a screen so that your body can keep active, as well as turning off your device at least an hour before you go to bed. This will help you sleep better at night so that you can get a good nights sleep.

Today, we were able to play outside for 30 minutes after researching on ipads and computers for 1 hour and 30 minutes. Being able to move around after being hunched over a screen gave me a chance to actually relax and enjoy the fresh air. I didn't have to strain to look at my ipad anymore.

Compared to screen time, I believe that being able to enjoy the world around you is healthier than staring at a screen for several hours.

In coclusion, I would like to say that there is much more to life than how many followers you have on instagram, and that you should explore the world outside your door. You never know what you may find.

Everyday an average kid s young as 2 can spend up to 7hrs a day on the internet for entertainment. Spending too much time online is bad for your eyes and decreases your socializing skills. Because it’s easier to talk to people online then in person. That’s why there’s something called “online trolling”. People can hate or bully a person online but they won’t be that brave in person to bully you.

To make screen time healthier you can spend less time on it maybe only use it if you really need to use it. Like for school or to contact your family, teachers or peers. Don’t use it inappropriately like to troll people online or to mock someone or to scam a person.

For the 30mins outside me friends and I were playing truth or dare. The questions were appropriate and so were the dares.

The game was ok and it was kind of fun. We didn’t move a lot besides on standing when we did the dares. I mean this is better then being on your screen. It’s better to talk with your friends because it increases your socializing skills.

David

Screen time is very good, if you manage to use it wisely. In many experts' opinions, they believe that once you pass 2 hours, screen time can seriously affect your body. Now a lot of people might say, "well, I don't even watch TV or videos, so I have a healthy body, right?" Think again, everyone. Every time you check an "important" email, you're still spending time on your phone. The times for all the very "Important" texts amounts to a staggering number of minutes. Why? Because your phone is like a magnet, if you don't know how to control yourself, you will get sucked in.

To make your screen time healthy, you have to have a set time. Otherwise, you could watch forever and keep on getting drawn further down the depths of the internet. Every 20-30 minutes, rest. Walk around your house, of for me, I just sit on the front porch, inhaling fresh air, and sometimes the occasional wandering mosquitoes. After you finish watching YouTube or Netflix, take a walk outside. Rest your eyes and your mind, before doing something else.

For me, right after our inquiry project time, Mr. Hong and Mr. Fisher took us outside to play basketball. This is a very smart move, as what they probably had in mind was to rest our eyes and to get our blood stream moving after sitting for so long in the library. It was very healthy compared to screen time as I exercised my body and rested my eyes and minds.

In my opinion, I believe that although screen time is very useful and has made our lives much more easier and enjoyable, too much screen time can very severely damage our body, both physically and mentally.

Screen time is a serious concern in the world today, let me tell you why.

When having screen time there are positives and negatives. Lets first talk about the positives. The positives to screen time is that you might learn something new and benefit your knowledge.

Now lets talk about the negatives, When you're on your screen for the majority of the day it is not good for your eyes and your physical fitness. You might loose friends, and might not have a good bond with your family. Lots of screen time can lead to anger issues and change of mood.

As you can see there are many more negatives than the positives. So you should make screen time more healthy, you can balance the time you get with your screen. For example, I balance my screen time between 1-2 hours a day but some kids average around 7 hours a day and that is definitely not healthy. Also you should always be more active outside than being on your devices.

Today at free time I played basketball with my classmates and teachers. It was a blast playing with all of them! It was fun because I got to be outside in the nice refreshing air and also play with my friends and teachers. Being outside is definitely more healthier than having screen time because your moving your body instead of sitting inside being a couch potato.

Overall I think screen time is fine but you should balance it so you don't get addicted and become a couch potato.

We shouldn’t be on a device for a long period of time, as it is unhealthy for us. Technology is everywhere now. Having too much screen time can actually damage your eyes and health. Lots of kids are staying indoors and staying on the screen for hours. It keeps you from enjoying the actual world. Staying indoors, we get less exercise and our main entertainment is just a screen. Even really young kids are spending hours on their devices. Having a device near you while you’re trying to sleep can make you get less sleep.

We can adjust our screen time to possibly an hour or two. But we should always be taking breaks and getting some fresh air. Don’t sleep with a device beside you, as it will most likely give you a harder time to fall asleep. Try not to use a device right before going to bed so you can sleep better. We should be going out more. When you have the time, try to go out and exercise or do activities. It’s healthier for our bodies. We can be more social outside.

Today, we got 30 minutes of free time outside. Before we went outside we were using devices for educational purposes. Going outside gave us a rest from the screens and got us to get active for a bit. I went with one of my friends to looks for some things that she was going to use for one of her projects. Being outside was better than sitting inside staring at screen for a long time. It felt good to be getting fresh air after being inside for awhile.

I think that we can be having time on a screen, but just not for a long period of time. Again, it is important that we take breaks from it. Having devices with you can make things easier but there’s no reason to be stuck on it for hours. Before, people didn’t have the devices and technology we have now. They spent most of their time outside and doing a lot of things that we aren’t doing now. Always keep yourself healthy and don’t spend all your time on a screen!

Screen time is a serious concern in the world today. People spend lots of time on computers, TVs, iPads, and phones every day. It may cause eye damage and affects our mental and physical health especially the developing body and brain of children. By reducing screen time, there are many benefits. People can have more time for physical activities, learning and studying, personal hobbies and interests, and gathering with family and friends.

There are some ways to make screen time healthier. I usually lower the brightness of the screen and take a rest between every 30 minutes. At night, I stop using electronic devices one hour before sleep, so I could get a good night's rest. I will try to limit the screen time to 1-2 hours a day.

During the 30 minutes of free time today, I played basketball with classmates as well as Mr. Fisher and Mr. Hong. I enjoyed playing basketball instead of my usual screen time and is good for my health because I made many physical movements during the game. I love sports. And my usual screen time is basically doing PAR. I sit there staring at the screen stationary for a long time, it isn’t good for my physical health.

In conclusion, we must limit or minimize screen time in order to make your life healthier.

too much screen time is very bad for a child's heath because instead of going outside and doing activities you are at home watching on your device.

having less screen time benefits you because then you would actually play outdoor activities that involve lots of moving. if you don't want o play an out door activity a great example is when in the video they were playing battleship. always being on your computer or phone is a really bad habit because it could distract you from the things that are happening in real life. remember when Pokemon go first came out? everyone was playing it and there had been many many accident because people were too focused on there phones.

in the last period of today we had 30 minutes of outside time which we could do whatever we want. i played basketball with some of my fellow classmates and it was really fun. playing activities like this is a really way to take your eyes off your screens a bit. playing activities like this is also very good because you are exercising at the same time as you are having fun.

today was different from screen time because we actually played an out door activity that involves a lot of moving. if we didn't exercise it would be very bad for our bodies. defiantly being active outside is a better choice because it is a way to interact with some of your classmates. this is easier said then done but i think that everyone should be more outgoing and to try new activities they have never tried before because that is a great way to distract yourself from playing on your phone.

in conclusion, i think that it is very important to exercise your bodies and to be very active. at times you could treat yourselves with some electronic time but you should limit it and don't play for like 3 hours straight.

Screentime is a serious concern in the world today. Being on a device for more than an hour straight is bad for people's eyes, and it also makes you lazier and more. It also becomes an addiction, as kids would rather go on their tablets rather then play soccer. Taking electronics away help your creativity, it also helps empathy and helps you sleep better. It removes headaches and more.

Some tips to make screen time more healthy is taking breaks every 1 hour of so for atleast 30 minutes. In that 30 minutes do anything that doesn't involve watching a screen. Or, even better, use a maximum of 1 hour a day of electronics. So, make sure the time is balanced nicely. Put down the phone/tablet an hour before you go to bed, so you can fall asleep quicker. Lower the brightness down on your devices (If possible) and remember to rest your eyes constantly,

Today I played with some of my friends, and although it wasn't very active it was better than sitting home on your computer screen watching YouTube. It was healthier because even though we were sitting down, it was better for our eyes and mind to go outside. In my opinion I would probably rather use a device or something, since it got sort of repetitive, it was still fun.

It's important to go outside, as it's got for our brain and eyes. It's good to just put down the screen for once and get a nice deep breath of fresh air. You could also try new activities, like playing a new game with friends, going shopping, going to a park. It may not be fun at first, but it's healthier for you because you're also exercising the same time. When you're on a phone your tablet, you're kind of just sitting there.

Overall, I think that going on your device is fine, and screentime is fine, as long as it's a controlled time and not for 8 hours straight without breaks. It's healthier for your body and your mind.

Nowadays, everyone is on their phones, computers, tablets, etc. Les screen time would mean people could go outside more and rest their eyes. I sometimes get headaches whenI am using too much screen time so a rest of screen time would be nice.

I don't think there is a way to make screen time more healthy so I think to make screen time more healthy is to reduce screen time.

In the 30 mins that we were outside I was playing tag, I was really bored. I would rather be doing math work because outside time has not been as fun when we can be playing on our XBOX, Computer or tablet.

I think screen time is fine. As long as you have less that 2 hours a day I say its fine.

Screen time can be bad for you if you go on it for too long. Because it can make you lazy, and you can get addicted to it easily, which makes it so you want to keep doing it and never stop.

In the 30 minutes I went on the basketball court and played basketball with Mr. Fisher, Mr. Hong, Nathan, Sameer and a lot of other people.

Screen time can also make you tired, and hurt your eyes if your on it for too long. If your one of the people that’s on screen time for like 10 hours, you should probably go outside, but you probably can’t, only if it’s not so dark.

Too much screen time is a serious concern in the modern world today.
Exposure to the screen light from technological devices too long can be very harmful and cause damage to eyes. Less screen time allows a person to become physically and socially active in the real world, instead of being passive and lonely in front of the screen. The youth at my age should be aware not to focus their eyes and energy on video games too much at a time. Although a youth would learn something from the screen life, he or she had better learn by doing. Getting away from the screen to make connections with the real life is a better way to live a fun, meaningful life.
To make screen time more healthy, use technology for education or recreation with self-discipline. Limit time of every use to 30 minutes around and then remember to move around for a break before returning to the screen. Looking into the distance or closing eyes would be suggested.
Yesterday at school, my friends and I were given 30 minutes of free play outside of the school building. I like being in the fresh air, so I used the time wisely. A couple of friends and I played basketball. Physical activities such as running and jumping outside are way healthier than using technology motionlessly. They guide the brain to take more actions unknowingly. “Where should I position the ball?” “Is anyone open?” Sports such as basketball exercise both the brain and the body.. What makes it better is that there is more time to have fun with friends. It’s more interesting to play with the others than just being isolated.
I think we should lessen the amount of time we spend staring at a screen. Though it can be used for educational things, it can also badly damage you not only physically but sometimes even emotionally. So every once in a while, put down your phone or laptop or tablet and go outside. Play like what kids should do.

Screen time is a serious issue in our Society. People spend so much time watching there phone’s, TV’s, iPads, etc, and could be really damaging to your eyes and could also be a change for your mental and physical health. Especially when our minds and body’s are growing. It will make such a change when your outside doing physical activities, socializing, learning, and making hobbies.

We should try to reduce screen time by going on our technology for only 1-2 hours a day and talking breaks in between times for 30 min.

Even if I usually look like I am obsessed with my phone. I am a big fan of sports even if I’m not good at some, I do figure skating, gymnastics, and ballet. We should all try to get off our screens and try something new and find a new hobby.😁

Hello, my names un-known. Today I am doing a presentation about Neanderthals. Neanderthals are a different species of humans that lived nearly 430,000 years ago but unfortunately are extinct now. but before i tell you more about them i need to tell you about my question.i chose a question about medicine and healthcare about Neanderthals because it interested me. so my question is what type of Medicine did the Neanderthals use and what diseases did they have? well let me tell you the answer to that but first lets cover the diseases. which brigs us to our first disease, tapeworms. its a disease no one want’s to cross, but what does it do? tapeworms are long worms that live in your gastrointestinal track, well, GI track or digestive track. tapeworms are long slim organisms with hooks and suckers in the front. does anyone want a gross fact about them?

yes: okay if you are one of the people who said no, you can cover you ears. tape worms can grow up to 82 feet! not only that they can live as long as 30 years!

unfortunately Neanderthals had them. but Neanderthals also had tuberculosis. but what is tuberculosis? its a scary disease. its caused by mycobacterium that stays in the tissue of the alveoli and sickens it. sadly i cant tell you about how you catch it and the symptoms so you get to choose. raise you hand if you want symptoms. raise your hand if you want to now how you get it?

how you get it: there are four different ways you can get it. 1, you are safe. someone with TB coughs but the TB misses you and your okay. 2, this one is called Latin TB. its when someone with TB coughs and you get it. BUT you immune cells quickly come and gather around the mycobacterium and EAT it. 3rd one is very similar to the second one. and I said second because this one is also called Latin TB. its the same except that the immune cells CANT eat the Mycobacterium. our last one is called active TB infection. its the worst one. the immune cells CANT catch the Mycobacterium and the Mycobacterium starts multiplying. to put simply, you get TB from another person who coughs and has TB.

symptoms: okay here are the symptoms. fevers and chills, weight loss and vomit, lots of coughing especially with blood, chest pain, night sweats. if this has been happening more then weeks then that person has TB.

Neanderthals also had type 2 diabetes, depression, and show signs of addiction. sadly i can’t tell you about these diseases but i can tell you about how they ware treating these illnesses. and the answer is….. they didn't! but they was a way that they helped. let me explain. a dead neanderthal was found laying in plants. at first look the people thought he died there. he was also healed there. the plants he was laying on ware haling plants. all the plants ware used to heal, wounds and pain. cool right? maybe Neanderthals ware smarter then we thought.but Neanderthals could heal fevers, injuries and perform basic healthcare.

now before i end i must tell you about my rode-blocks. i love medicine so i got too interested and just focused on that so i didn't have lots of time to focused on other things. not only that i didn't use my time well and focused on other things.

now here are my sites

Neanderthals used to use plants hands and food to solve healthcare problems even though some of them couldn't be treated.

thank you for listing!
