Today, students participated in ZUMBA for the second time. It was exciting to see them moving and grooving to the music. Later, students learned more about ratios and worked on calculating unit rates. Our VLN students started learning how to code with the micro-bits! Be sure to be reviewing daily for our Math unit evaluation this Friday! 1) MATH:

Zumba kicked us off into the week. After student brains had been fully oxygenated we finished up the work work quiz form last week and had a new pretest with vocabulary from our next read aloud Fish In A Tree by Linda Mullaly. After recess we worked in our ratio and proportion booklets and then got started on the new class read aloud. After lunch, we had music and wrapped up Forbidden City by marking and uploading the novel evaluations. |
- Complete a total of 40 Questions from the ratios and proportions problem solving booklet.
- Complete the word analysis
- Write a Learning Reflection for Forbidden City
- Follow the Learning Reflection Criteria (Do you know where to find it? If not, look above under assessments)

Today, we started the day off with a round robin tournament in PE between division 1 and 2. Later, we had our class photos taken in addition to the photo of our entire school. In the afternoon, we learned about the cross curricular links of our mapping assignment. We learned it is part of math, socials, language arts, and art. It is always great when we can hit learning intentions from various subject areas. We are looking forward to seeing the learning that you document on your elf-assessment sheets. |

Today we had our last Forbidden City word list and we got started on our novel approach book clubs. For the next few weeks students will be using their reading strategies and thinking strategies in groups to write a powerful response on the big idea of the a story. Between recess and lunchStudents completed the comprehension quiz on the plot of Forbidden City and then continued working with ratios in math. In the afternoon students were introduced to the forbidden city mapping project. Students used technology to find specific locations in Beijing that correlate to the main characters escape rout from the city. We finished off the day working on our second round dramatic presentations. |

CnToday, students returned after our first official 'SNOW DAY' in over 12 years. It is not typical for schools in Vancouver to be closed due to snow fall. This unique weather allowed us to use the snow to learn about Indigenous cultures and traditions. We learned about indigenous peoples' traditions today and learned how they are able to create igloos using only basic tools. We learned how difficult and challenging this can be without practice. |
1.) ART:
- Final draft is due Tomorrow unless you have a homework pass or have spoken with me. Complete as much as you can at home this evening.
- You will have time to create your final 'LEARNING' presentation poster of your Roy Lichtenstein composition in class tomorrow.
- Review the feedback you received today on you dramatic reading and work on improving in specific ares that I put s star on today.
- Tomorrow you will present the same piece again after applying the peer feedback you received.
3.) POST A RESPONSE:
- Today, you participated in an 'IGLOO' structural challenge.
- You built some background knowledge on First Nations Inuit traditions.
- Following this, we went outside to use their techniques to build a structure.
- You were responsible for creating your teams and Mr. Hong and I gave you some criteria to do this.
- In paragraph form, explain what you learned about the following from this activity:
2.) Stable structures (How did you build it, what did you learn, what did you improve on? etc)
- Self-assess your post for the givens (spelling, grammar, capitals, punctuation, sentence structure, etc).
- Edit/revise based on your self-assessment of the givens and the 2 required points.
