Social studies Inquiry!

Today was a busy day of learning! Students got new word work words and continued their first round of fitness testing. In Math students learned how to explain the divisibility rules for 2, 5 and 10. The afternoon was the launch of our social studies inquiry unit. Students will do a mini inquiry to practice the skills and processes needed to carry out a larger inquiry focussing on social studies content and skills. 
1.)WORD WORK: Unit 2 word analysis. Test THURSDAY!

2.)MATH: Math Focus p 6 #1-11 (click)

3.)HOME READING: 30 Minutes

Today we continued practising our hip-hop dance routine. We finished the math assessment and got started on the writing. Students learned that writing must be interesting and understandable. Without these two things people won't know what we are saying or they won't want to read it. Students practiced paragraphing by writing a letter to their teacher. The letter will provide valuable information in helping me to be the best teacher possible for each student this year.
IMPORTANT: MEET THE TEACHER IS TOMORROW @ LAURIER  FORM 6-7 PM!

1.) MATH: Complete the assessment.

2.)WRITING: Complete the letter to Mr. Fisher (Due tomorrow @ 9am)

3.) POST A RESPONSE: Watch the video below and then explain the OREO cookie paragraph method.
  • Learning Intention: I can write a paragraph explaining the Oreo cookie paragraph method.
Success Criteria:
  1. PARAGRAPH FORMAT (Intro/body/conclusion)
  2. Clearly explains the OREO method and what each letter in OREO stands for.
  3. Includes the (GIVENS= Pay attention to your spelling, capitals, punctuation, sentence structure, and grammar!

Can you identify this beautiful little sapling?
Today we first hip-hop dance lesson from the school wide dance instructor. Students will be learning a sequence of steps and will put on a performance Thursday at 2 PM. This is going to be awesome so get your dancing shoes ready. We also started our first science unit today focussing on plants in the local community and how indigenous people use them. And in the next two weeks students will be able to identify over 15 different local plants.
AGENDA/PLANNER

2) READING: Read for 30 minutes and fill in your home reading calendar. Bring it to school tomorrow to be checked.

​3)PE: Bring proper shoes and clothing to exercise each day this week.

  • Today we were introduced to the point identification project. Think about the following questions and provide the best answer you can afterwards.
  • Why do you think we are learning to identify many of the plants in your community? 
  • Why do you think we are learning the indigenous uses of the plants in your community? 
  • How might this knowledge help you in your life?
  • Answer in paragraph form using complete sentences.
EXTRA (Not required) : Watch the video and identify several plants that are hummingbird friendly!

fitness is fun!!!

Today we started our first PE unit focussing on fitness. Students learned the 5 components of fitness and  then participated in some fitness testing focusing on each of the components. Students will use the data from the fitness test to set a fitness goal which they will work on for the next couple months. Students also completed the first part of a beginning of grade 7 math assessment to see what skills they have mastered and what skills they still need to work on. Next will be starting the grade 7 math curriculum.
1.) Important:
  • Bring one 2-inch ring binder or two smaller 1.5-inch binders. 
  • Bring 1 or 2 white erasers
  • Bring your agenda to school EVERYDAY!
LEARNING/PLANNER:

1) NAME TAG: due tomorrow by 3 pm

2)WORD WORK: spelling and meaning test on unit 1 tomorrow!


3) POST A RESPONSE:
  • To help prepare for you first WORD WORK evaluation, have a family member or friend quiz you on the SPELLING and  MEANING of each word work word.

Motivational Magic!

Thank you Mr. Steven!
Today we had our first whole school assembly in a very long time. A Steven Harmer, retired principal, turned magician engaged students with a magic show focusing on kindness and gratitude! What a great combination.. In class students we built more behaviour expectations and continued to apply and practice the learning principles thought the name tag project!

The best part of the day it was when another teacher came and said how many Div. 1 students were smiling and saying good morning to her. This MADE ME SOOOO HAPPY You are already making me proud!

  • End your paragraph with your opinion on the message of the show. 
  • Is this a good message to be shared? Explain why!

The big 6!

Today's students started the day with their first music lesson. Music will be Tuesday morning and Thursday afternoon each week. Much of the rest of the day we spent creating and learning classroom routines and behaviour expectation as well as an introduction to the big six learning principles. Students started their first learning activity using these principles. Although activity is simply a name it is one of the most important lessons of the year. We are learning how to learn! So exciting!!!
1.) Important: When you are able, please purchase:
  • One 2-inch ring binder or two smaller 1.5-inch binders. 
  • One or two white erasers
LEARNING/PLANNER:

1.) MATH: Complete the handout (both sides)

2.) APPLIED SKILLS & DESIGN: Name tag. Complete the draft and be ready for FEEDBACK tomorrow!

3.) WORD WORK: Complete the word analysis & TEST on spelling and meaning Friday!!

4.) WEBSITE: Post a comment here. Just a "hello" or "hi" will do. Be sure to only use your first name and to not post any other personal information.

Welcome to division 1! I am happy to be your teacher this year! I'm looking forward to helping you learn this year!  I have planned a fun and exciting year of learning for you.  I am certain you will the most amazing year ever!  We have fun art activities, field trips, outdoor activities, etc planned throughout the year!  #TheLearningNeverStops "LET'S GO!"
