Today we completed our volleyball unit in PE and also had our last volleyball game. Students improved so much over the last 5 weeks. Everyone should be very proud of themselves. I know your parents and I are very  proud of you all for trying a new sport and making a commitment to a team. I really have enjoyed coaching you.  If volleyball is something you enjoyed please consider joining a city club or a community centre program. It is good fun, good exercise and a great way to meet people and make new friends.

We still need 4 more seats for skating on monday!

Bring in 1 more can each if you can:)

Picture
Today division 1 studnets participated in a math inquiry on comparing and ordering fractions. Students worked in groups to find as many way as they could to determine which fractions were larger and smaller. It was great to see how many strategies students were able to come up with on their own though collaboration and experimentation. They also had to use a lot of  mathematical vocabulary in oder to share their thinking. Great Inquiry division 1!

Learning with Ms. H about early humans.

Today during our social studies inquiry on early humans Division 1 and 2 were extremely lucky  to have Ms. H, who just happens to have done her thesis (a long piece of writing involving extensive research) on early humans. How amazing is that? Many students had a chance to talk with her and learn form her extensive background knowledge. Thank you Ms. H!

Vancouver Symphony Orchestra

11/16/2019

Picture
Picture
Today, we had a great field trip to the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra.  They learned much about percussion instruments!  In addition to this, there was even more learning today and students worked on their self-regulation.  Prior to the trip, we created a new C-chart for being 'OUT IN THE COMMUNITY'.  Students created the action criteria and it was made very clear to them what their expected behaviours should look like. This in turn helped them self-regulate during the entire field trip and everything went as expected! Well done to the students of division 1 and 2! You reached one of the learning intentions!

IMPORTANT:
  • Bring some coloured tiles to school so you can create a unique mosaic mirror!
  • Bring your $4 for the ART supplies!
1)POST CRADS:
  • Hand in Monday morning
2.) POST A RESPONSE:
  • Write a paragraph about the field trip to the symphony (This may be used for the Alphabiography)
  • How were you able to self-regulate so well during the field trip today?
  • What was the trip like? What did we do?
  • Add complexity by including in thoughts, feelings, sights, smells and what you heard.
         SUCCESS CRITERIA:
          1.) Paragraph format
2.) Use as many writing tips form our lesson as possible

2.) Includes at least 2 points from our 'IN THE COMMUNITY' C-Chart that you focused on and an
example of how you did this.
3.) Ask one student a question about their paragraph.
