Today was a busy dat of deadlines and due dates. Students handed in their classroom French Phrases posters and completed the self-evaluation of their personal collages. We also had our final writing lesson on generating ideas. Next week lessons will start focussing on how to make writing interesting, organized and understandable. After recess, we had our first SOAR assembly and we all sang Oh Canada together. It was the first time in a long while the whole school was together in the gym. We loved watching  a slideshow of all the learning that has been taking place at Laurier since September! #THELEARNINGNEVERSTOPS!!
1.)WORD WORK: 50 word review test on unit #1-5 tomorrow. There will be 50 spellings and 25 meetings. Make sure you study tonight. 

2.)WRITING: Alphabio writing piece #4 of 26 due tomorrow!

3.)SCIENCE: Observation #5 tomorrow. Bring in any items you may want to add to your ecosystem!

4.) POST A RESPOSNE:
  • Holiday. Use this time to study for your test tomorrow!

Today students had their second drumming lesson and then the whole school enjoyed a performance involving many different instruments from around the world. Students also continue to work on paragraph writing focussing on personal experiences. The first math unit test of the year was handed back and evaluations are posted on teams. Tomorrow will we will be starting our second math unit focussing on operations with fractions and decimals. 
 1.) WORD WORK: 50 word review test on units 1-5 Friday (50 spellings and 25 meanings!)

2.) GOAL SETING CONFERENCES: Have your parent or guardian chose one of the options below.
  • OPTION 1: Sign up for a conference at school (the sign up link has been emailed to all parents) or let me know 
  • OPTION 2: Have a home conference (email me and let mer know)
3.)FRENCH POSTER: Due Thursday at 9 am

4.) WRITING: Alphabiograophy paragraoh #3 Due tomnorrow

5.) POST A RESPONSE:
  • Part 1: Check with your parent or guardian to make sure they have contacted Mr. Fisher regarding the upcoming conference. 
  • Part 2: Please let your parents or guardians  know that the Grouse Grind field trip as being postponed until spring time as the trail is still closed for maintenance and the weather has turned quite poor. (Your parents will receive an email regarding this soon)

  • Today, we continued our research in inquiry and learned how to synthesize information. Students have been 'immersing' themselves in their inquiries and phase 3 (Coalesce) and 4 (Going Public) are upon us. 
  • Watch the posted video again.
  • LEARNING INTENTION: I can explain how what it means to synthesize information.
    SUCCESS CRITERIA:
    1.) PARAGRAPH FORMAT: intro/body/ conclusion.
    2.) GIVENS: Pay close attention to your spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, etc.
    3.) INTRO: Make it as exciting and engaging as possible.
    4.) BODY: Include at least 2-3 examples/supporting points. 
    5.) CONCLUSION: Tie up your paragraph smoothly.
    6.) PEER FEEDBACK/SELF-ASSESSMENT: Give 1 student 2 things to improve on based on the above criteria.
    7.) REVISED VERSION: Based on the feedback you receive or the self-assessment you complete, post a revised version as a reply to your original post.

Today was a holiday for students, but  teachers around BC focused on professional growth so they can become better educators! I spent the day studying and implementing UDL (Universal Design for Learning) so that all students can be successful in our diverse and inclusive education system!

A Focused Inquirer!
Today's students continued working on their Alphabiography Writing Project. They continued to apply the traits of good writers. They are making sure their writing is interesting and understandable. Students will have lessons targeting specific areas that make writing interesting and specific areas that make writing understandable throughout the next several weeks. We went over the math pretest together to make sure everybody is ready for the unit test tomorrow. In the afternoon students focussed on investigating their social studies inquiry questions. It was great to see focussed learners. Destination ownership!
IMPORTANT: NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS FRIDAY!

qualitative & quantative observations!

Today's students completed their first round of observations. They learned the difference between qualitative and quantitative observations. Students will be collecting data over the next several weeks. The dad I will be analyzed and used to determine if the ecosystem met the needs of the organisms. Participating in hands-on science provide students the opportunity to become scientists. They have the criteria for success and now all they have to do is follow it, explore and learn.
IMPORTANT: NO SCHOOL FOR STUDENTS FRIDAY!

2.)MATH: Unit test Thursday on Numeration: COMPLETE THE PRE-TEST TONIGHT and be sure to bring it to school tomorrow!

Math inquiry & ecosystems

Today ​we build our ecosystems and tomorrow we will start our observations and collecting data. We have become scientists! In math we dissipated in a mini inquiry proving factors and multiples. It was amazing to watch the groups work together to show their understanding. Being able to show what you know in various ways the best parts of inquiry learning. 
IMPORTANT: Bring in the Grouse Mountain field trip form and play the fee online.
