Ecosystem Lab Graph Examples (click)

Division 1,

I have had to turn off all blog comments on the website due to inappropriate posting. I feel quite disappointed that someone would do this to a school website that is only used to help people learn. Whoever you are, I am asking you to please not do this again and to let us continue to learn and communicate in a Supportive, Open Minded, Awesome, and Respectful environment.

Today students learned how to set the scene in their writing and use description to paint mind picture for readers. After practising, students spent much of the day working on their writing as well as learning how do use a spread sheet to create a graph. Students had to input all of their data from the ecosystems inquiry into a spreadsheet and then they started creating graphs.

1.) SCIENCE:

Finish entering all of your data and work on creating 4 graphs
2 graphs will show changes and contributing factors
2 graphs will show energy transfer
Lab write up will be due Next Week (Thursday or Friday)

2.) ALPHABIOGRAPHY: 20 pieces due tomorrow!

Use this time to work on your lap and to decide the 4 graphs you will make for your lab.

Who wants to be told everything? Not me!
Students learned and practiced an important writing strategy called show me, don't tell me. Good writer's show the readers things they don't tell them everything. For math, we practiced comparing fractions and in the afternoon we started our applied skills and design unit: SEWING! Students will be learning three different types of stitches and then will be designing and creating their own projects. Let's all learn to sew together!

IMPORTANT: We still need 2 more parent volunteers for the field trip on Monday. Please ask your parents if they can come and help supervise. There is no cost for parent volunteers.

Comparing Fractions

Today's students started their lab write-up from their ecosystems inquiry. They will be compiling, organizing and analyzing the data they collected over the last several weeks. They will use this data to create graphs and draw inclusions about the success of the ecosystem and the interactions between the different elements.

1.) MATH: Complete the comparing fractions handout

2.) SOCIAL STUDIES INQUIRY: Complete and hand in the mini inquiry assessment

3.) SCIENCE: Lab write-up Sections 1 and 2 due tomorrow by 3 pm

4.) MATH TEST on fractions and decimals (Thursday)

5.) POST A RESPONSE:

List the 4 strategies for comparing fractions
Include an example for each and explain why the strategy works well for the comparison
HINT: The video below has a great strategy. One we didn't cover in class!

When the student raised their hand I could tell from the look in their eyes that what they were going to say would change our lives forever!

Today's students learned an effective strategy for hooking readers. They learned how to start at an exciting part and then backfill. They saw several examples written by the teacher and then had a chance to practice on their own. I was very happy with the progress!

It was really nice to be back at school and see everybody again! I missed you all! I'm super busy getting the class re-organized and everything ready for the week so not much of a post today. See you tomorrow!

1. POST ARESPOSNE:

Write another paragraph for your Alphabiograophy and add it to your online notebook. If you already have 16 completed move to SECTON B
If you are writing your 16th piece tonight, post a message here telling me what you will write about and you do not have to do section B.
Remember that it does not have to be a long piece of writing but it must be interesting and understandable!

SECTION B: Post a list of all the strategies you know for converting fractions to decimals and vice versa!

BOUNS! Explain two ways to determine if a fractions decimal will repeat or terminate!

Remembrance day!

And today we had our school Remembrance Day assembly. Remembrance day is an important day where we remember people who fought for freedom. People who believed in peace and who gave their lives to fight against injustice, racism, discrimination, and hate. We take time today and tomorrow to be thankful for the free country we live in and to remember those who gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedom and peace we have today. We will not forget!

1.) Alphabiograpjhy: 15 piece due Monday November 14th

You may uses your post form today in your Alphabigraphy

2.) Math: Complete the booklet for Monday (click)

Success Criteria:

Choose the best strategy for the questions
Any fractions that have denominators that are factors of 10 or 100 should be converted without calculator by changing the fraction to a denominator of 10, 100, or 1000.
Do 10 questions using long division to divide
You may use a calculator for the rest of the questions.

LEARNING INTENTION: I can explain the 'BIG IDEA' about what Remembrance day is and what the poppy means to me.
SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Paragraph format (intro, body, and conclusion)
2.) Pay attention to the givens/conventions (spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure)
3.) Include 3 supporting examples in your body and explain them in detail. This should be points that explain your 'BIG IDEA' about Remembrance day and the poppy.
4.) Do a self-assessment (post this as a reply to your first draft of your paragraph).
5.) Edit/revise your post based on your self-assessment of the criteria.
6.) OPTIONAL: Give 2 students feedback based on the above criteria using SOARing behaviour.

Ecosystems!

11/9/2022

Today was the final day studying our ecosystems. Student showed outstanding stewardship and care and returned all their organisms back to their natural habitats. Great job division 1. In the coming weeks, we will study our data and draw conclusions about the success of our ecosystems. You will all show your understanding of the relationships between the elements in an ecosystem.

2.) Math: Complete any assigned work.

3.) French Cooking Show: Script Due Monday November 14th

4.) Word Work: Test on Monday November 14th

5.)Post A Response:

Learning Intention: I can create a fill in the blank quiz for my word work words.
Success Criteria:

Includes 8 sentences with 8 new words
The sentences use the words correctly
The sentence shows the words meaning
Leave a blank space in the sentence for the chosen word work word

Reply to another classmates post and complete the quiz by inserting the correct word.
You may cut and paste the quiz and then add in the correct words.
After a student has completed your quiz, reply giving them a score out of 8.
Using the plural for of the word is okay.

Example: There were many _________ wandering around eating insects, worms, beetles, grass and various plants.
