afternoon of ownership!

Today students were introduced to criteria for powerful personal writing and we had our first writing lesson which focused on idea generating. Students used the lesson to generate an idea to write about and then they got writing. After Global Read Aloud, we had a Math lesson and learned a strategy to find all the factors of a number. In the afternoon we had our plant identification quiz and then got into self-evaluation mode. Students went through the learning intentions of the Plant Identification Project and self-assessed their work based on the criteria. After students finished their self assessment, the assessments were reviewed by a teacher and adjustments were made if the teacher did not agree with the assessment. Mr. Hong and I were amazed with the honesty, integrity shown. It was an afternoon ownership!

Something that was challenging about self assessing myself was that i wanted to make a appropriate choice on what do give to myself. I wanted to make my choice appropriate because i want to become good at self assessing myself. Something that i found easy was that i could just look back at what i had done and it was pretty easy to check the boxes because we worked as a team which made deciding easier. Something that's essential to have while self assessing is your project to look at. You can easily go down the list while looking at your project. 1. Hardest part for me was at the end, where they had the questions and stuff. I’m bad at explaining things. I can think of it in my mind, I just don’t know how to put it in words. Something easy was giving myself the marks. Besides not wanting to be self-critical or whatever it was easy.

2. Integrity. Period. (Okay find I’ll add to it) It’s crucial because without integrity, you could just give yourself full extending, even when you did nothing. You know you did nothing, so with integrity you would write down that you weren’t doing anything. Another example is let’s say the inquiry project. (Pretend the 0,1,2 did do something to your mark) You might put 2 even though you did close to nothing, just because you don’t want to lower your mark. (However, if you don’t have a lot of information that’ll hurt you overall presentation) (if, for example this project was like that)

3. It’s an important skill to have because sometimes when you’re marking your work, you can’t just let soneone else do it. In the future, you shouldn’t give someone else your assignment and tell them to mark it.

1. For me, the hardest part was to mark my own.(the questions at the end) I didn’t know if I should give myself a high mark or a lower mark because I always think I do bad on stuff. Because if I give my self a higher mark I will think that I’m too greedy.

2. You need to trust yourself when you give yourself a mark. Like me I was scared... Anyways, as I was saying. You can’t just give yourself a EXTENDING when you really just wrote down one note and sat there for the rest of the period. No, you have to trust yourself and give yourself a mark on what you really did. You have to be honest. The teachers will find out soon if you don’t be honest. They will know because you said my goal is to take 5-10 notes every period. And your book only has 6 notes on it. And you have yourself a Extending every time. That’s just lying to yourself.

3. This skill is important because you might become a teacher one day and you have to mark things. Or you might not be a teacher, maybe your job requires you to mark things. So it’s always good to learn this skill.

I think self assessing is important because you can't just say you are the best at everything. Sometimes it is hard to give ourselves bad marks even if we know we tried hard. But its also easy to give ourselves good marks. All of the things I wrote are good reason to know how to self asses ourselves.

Some challenges of self-accessing your work is that you might not be sure what appropriate mark or grade to give yourself. Sometimes you are not sure what to give yourself.
Some of the easier things in self-accessing your work can be that you can review on what you have achieved or accomplished. Such as what you did well or what you think you can improve on.
I think it is important because you can reflect on your work. You can see what you’ve done well or what you can improve on next time.

Sometimes it’s hard to decide what to give yourself because your not always entirely sure what you did well or what you can improve on. This makes it easier for another person such as a teacher to grade you because he or she can give you edvice or opinions on what to improve.
But however it can be easier as Mr. Fisher said if you have a checklist or criteria to go on.

Self-assessing is a really important skill to learn and use. I found answering the questions a little bit hard. I also found that giving myself the marks and giving reasons why I gave myself the mark fairly easy.

The key to self assessing is integrity. If you don't use your integrity and just make your score up, then that is basically lying to the teacher. Also, when you make your score up and a random reason, it is not true. So what you are just doing only effects you, nobody else because the score you get is just you lying about the score. That is why integrity is so important in self assessing.

I really think that self assessing is a very important life skill because self assessing is the key to taking ownership of your work. In order to take ownership over your work, you need to self assess your work and find out what you could improve if you do the project again. That is why you need to use self assessing.

for me when self assessing i found it hard to truly know if im correct or not, i was doubting very much that i got it correct. when self assessing you must have integrity! it is the upmost important to not mark that you did well on something you didn't to right or well. self assessing is an important skill to learn because not everyone is always going to check your work every day

Self assessing yourself individually is easy because all you have to know is what you honestly thought you deserved and get another persons opinion to determine exactly what your final score was.
Doing it as a group is kind of difficult when you can't find your group members or they don't agree with you. Since you have to get the same score as your group members for how well you presented your work, you have to make sure everyone is on the same page, or it doesn't work.
When self assessing, you have to be able to give yourself a proper mark that you deserved instead of lying to yourself and your teacher. That won't get you anywhere. The whole point of self
assessing is so that you can be able to determine your score and give yourself a justified reason for that score.
It's important to know how to assess yourself before handing in an important assignment or project so that you know if you put in effort to your work if you really tried. Knowing that would mean you can do your work knowing if you tried your best or didn't try at all. Then if you realized that you haven't met all the criteria and only did 60% of what you were supposed to do you can step it up a notch.

Capitalize your sentences.

Its is an incorrect sentence structure for the sentence "for me the hard part of self assessing is to decide whether you did get well or bad." "Well" is not the right word if you want it to contradict "Bad". Use the word "Good" instead. Delete the word "get" in the sentence "for me the hard part of self assessing is to decide whether you did get well or bad." It doesn't flow well with the sentence.

Check you spelling mistakes. I think you spelled "assess" as "asses". You also spelt "integrity" as "intergrity"

Add the period in the last sentence.

In my opinion, I believe that the second sentence doesn't really make sense as when you are self assessing, you don't learn more facts. You learn about your mistakes and how to correct them.

The hardest part of assessing yourself is trying to give your self a mark that reflects your work. There will be times where you think you did amazing and you actually did everything wrong and vise versa. It is hard to realize you got a bad mark, but that's how we learn.We just need to think about what should we do next, rather than blaming each other or ourselves about what should've been done before.

The easiest part of assessing yourself is getting a mark that you and your peers agree that you greatly deserve. I did talk about that maybe the mark you have maybe not the mark someone else have for you, but when all agrees with the mark you have mark that is actually what you deserve. Some marks that isn't been actually been debated on by other people is just really an opinion of one person. So, when you asses yourself and give your opinion, plus someone else opinion to combine then you have a more fair mark.

To actually asses yourself you need to know what you did and when you did it. You can't just say "oh I want a perfect mark so I will give myself a perfect mark". you actually have to look at your data and determine if you did your part and whether you did your part on time.

It is an important skill to learn so you are able to determine if you are capable of doing things without someone else telling you. It is what we do already in our daily life. Before we had in a project we asses ourselves and the poster to see if you and the poster actually followed the criteria. It shows that you are able to be an independent learner and you can see your mistakes and learn form them without someone else.

(Even though I think I deserved it.) Self assessing is an important skill because I think that you should be able to give yourself a fair grade depending on what you have done. One of the hardest things about self-assessing is to give yourself a fair mark. Few people like to get a bad mark, much less give themselves a bad mark. Sometimes you will think you did well, while others disagree. Thinking about which mark suits what you did best is the hardest thing about self-assessment, in my opinion.

One of the easiest things to do when self-assessing, is to give yourself a mark that is just based on hard criteria. Meaning, a list where you can just check items without thinking too hard about it. For instance, checking things you did and did not do on your presentation is easy. Giving yourself a mark for that is easy as well, as you can just check over your list and see how many you did and didn't do.

As others before me have stated, the most important thing when self-assessing is integrity, and logic. Have reasons to back up why you gave yourself that mark, and make sure those reasons are real, not made up.

Self assessing is an important skill to have, because being able to self-assess means that you can reflect on what you did well and not so well on accurately, without too much feedback from another person.

In conclusion, self-assessing is a very important skill to have, because if you know how to self-assess, you are one step closer to becoming an independent learner.

self assessing was challenging because i wanted to give myself a reasonable mark that isn't too high or too low. something that was really easy when i was self assessing was it was easy to check off what i did well and what i didn't do so well because all you had to do was look at the poster that we made. If you are giving your self a mark then you must have supporting evidence to back up your mark because if not then theres no proof that you did whatever mark you wrote down. self assessing is an important skill to learn because then you know what your expectations are when you get your final mark so you can know what you are good at and what you are not so good at.

Self assessing my individual work wasn’t really difficult for me. By comparison, group self assessing the collective work was not easy at all. For example, my group members had different opinions about whether something needed a change, and to agree on a group final decision, we had to discuss, or even argue. Although two heads are better than one, to develop some chemistry in a group requires time and practice.

It was easier to self assess my own part independently because I could take the entire ownership. I followed the criteria to check or review my work. I listened to myself for improvement. Surely, integrity plays a key role in self assessing, which means to earnestly reflect where you are and to be truthful with yourself.

Self assessing is significant to learning and work, which guides a person or a group to make future effort through zooming in strengths and weaknesses. Subsequently, strengths are kept and continuously used while weaknesses are backed up.

The hardest thing about self assessing for me is giving myself a mark. Most people know this, but I am very competitive and I have a huge ego. If you don't know it, just ask the people who play with me in basketball. So when I see, somebody give themselves a better mark, I erase my mark and give myself a better one. Now obviously, my honesty and my conscience would fight my ego, and I would decided for a long time if I should just change it back to what I had before. In the end, I would change it, but not before I have a splitting headache.

The most important thing is integrity in my opinion. If you lie about it, your not cheating the teacher or your parents. You are actually cheating yourself. You are the only one that knows for sure what exactly what you are doing, and nobody right now would force you to speak, but you actions could possibly defy your words.

Self assessing is such an important skill to have. You then know your weaknesses and your strengths so instead of getting better on your strengths, you could improve your weakness. In the future, you want to be able to know where you are at, and by using your self assessment techniques, you can easily know what to work on.

My hugely revised edition

The hardest part about the self assessment for me was to give myself an explanation for my mark. I don't want to get a bad mark, much less give myself a bad mark. Naturally, that means that some people like to give themselves a higher mark. But for that to happen, they have to give reasons why they got such a mark. The thing is, if you give yourself an extending, you have to have good reasons that support it. Even if you actually did good, your reasons might not be strong enough and you would be bumped down to a applying.

The easy part of this was the part where you had to give yourself a mark on criteria based off of hard facts.
For example: The criteria asks to see if you have a rubbing. Easy. Just show the teacher your rubbings and you did it. However, the quality of the rubbings take some time and effort to mark because everyone has different artistic abilities.

I believe that the most important essential is to have integrity and evidence because you have to always be honest and you have to give evidence or reasons on why you choose the mark.

Self assessing is an important skill to have because it teaches you all about honesty as also tests your honesty. Honesty is an important thing to have and we use it in our everyday life.
