1. How would you characterize/describe East Germany (Officially Know as the German Democratic Republic) in 1989, when then the film was set?
- I would describe East Germany as a very restricted, controlled, and dictatorial country because the communism allows no freedom or opposition in opinions.

2. How would you describe Fritzi's teacher, Mrs. Liesegang? What was school like for Fritzi?
- Mrs. Liesegang is a very mean, cruel, and uncaring teacher. She is a teacher who supports the dictatorship and communism of East Germany, and tolerates no opposition to her opinion. Mrs. Liesegang despises all students who questions her beliefs and thoughts.
-Because of the misalignment of Fritzi and Mrs. Liesegang's opinions, Fritzi's life at school was miserable, and she was constantly teased and bullied by her classmates.

3. Why do you think Mrs Liesegang encourages Fritzi's classmates to isolate her?
- I think that Mrs. Liesegang encouraged Fritzi's classmates to isolate her because she was afraid that her classmates would support Fritzi in her opinion of freedom; Mrs. Liesegang wanted to feel a sense of control for the class and wanted the class to follow everything that she thought and believed.

4. Why does Fritzi draw the attention of a Stasi agent when she goes to a travel agent to enquire about taking a trip to Hungary?
-I think that Fritzi drew attention to the Stasi agent because the creator of the animation wanted to emphasize how controlling and despotic East Germany once was.

How would you characterize/describe East Germany (Officially Know as the German Democratic Republic) in 1989, when then the film was set?
How would you describe Fritzi's teacher, Mrs. Liesegang? What was school like for Fritzi?

I would characterize East Germany as a very dangerous. It seems like the Stasi and the government have a lot of control over the government. In the film, they are characterized as intimidating and threatening. But I also think that East Germany also is pretty warm. The atmosphere around it seems very welcoming most of the time and feels like a nice place overall.

Why do you think Mrs Liesegang encourages Fritzi's classmates to isolate her?

I think it was to make her feel ashamed of stepping out of line and to make sure that nobody else tries to do the same.

Why does Fritzi draw the attention of a Stasi agent when she goes to a travel agent to enquire about taking a trip to Hungary?

I think it is because to the travel agent, it seems like Fritzi is trying to escape from East Germany and would therefor be a traitor to the country.

How would you describe Fritzi's teacher, Mrs. Liesegang? What was school like for Fritzi?

Why does Fritzi draw the attention of a Stasi agent when she goes to a travel agent to enquire about taking a trip to Hungary?
- I think that the Stasi Agent was drawn to attention because the travel agent had suspicion that Fritzi may have wanted to escape from East Germany.

How would you characterize/describe East Germany (officially known as the German Democratic Republic) in 1989, when the film was set?
I would describe East Germany as a very closed and controlled region. The people were very limited in their options as they could not travel outside of East Germany and could not visit their families in the West.

How would you describe Fritzi's teacher, Mrs. Liesegang? What was school like for Fritzi?
I would describe Mrs. Liesegang as a dictator in her own classroom. This is because she is against anyone with an opposing opinion on the way East Germany is run, especially the demonstrators in the street that protest for liberation. Due to Fritzi having a different opinion than her teacher, Mrs. Liesegang tried to make Fritzi's life miserable.

Why do you think Mrs. Liesegang encourages Fritzi's classmates to isolate her?
I think that Mrs. Liesegang wants Fritzi to be isolated because she wanted a sense of authority over her students so that they knew the consequence of sharing their different opinions.

Why does Fritzi draw the attention of a Stasi agent when she goes to a travel agent to enquire about taking a trip to Hungary?
I think that Fritzi caught the attention of a Stasi agent because the reason most go to Hungary is to escape the East. The travel agent was skeptical and reported to the Stasi because it seemed like she was trying to escape, and the Stasi agent tried to prevent that from happening.

• How would you characterize/describe East Germany (Officially Know as the German Democratic Republic) in 1989, when then the film was set?

I would describe East Germany as dangerous.
It does not allow freedom because of all the border patrols.

• How would you describe Fritzi's teacher, Mrs. Liesegang? What was school like for Fritzi?

I would describe her as mean because she was singling her out.
School was very hard for Fritzi because she did not have a lot of friends.

• Why do you think Mrs Liesegang encourages Dritzi's classmates to isolate her?

They encourage her classmates to isolate her because she was attending many protests.
She wanted freedom for her country.
It was a consequence for going against her own country.

• Why does Fritzi draw the attention of a Stasi agent when she goes to a travel agent to enquire about taking a trip to Hungary?

I think because Frizi was being suspicious and wanted to leave East Germany because she wanted to give her dog back to her friend.
She couldn’t leave because the borders was closed.

Good job on answering the questions! I think you can revise it more by adding more details on your thinking. For example, why do you think that East Germany was dangerous in that time period? Try to revise it and explain your thinking a little more.

1. How would you characterize/describe East Germany (Officially Know as the German Democratic Republic) in 1989, when then the film was set?

I think East Germany is really dangerous because they put up a border and people can't visit each other anymore. It is a very protected area with armed forces.

2. How would you describe Fritzi's teacher, Mrs. Liesegang? What was school like for Fritzi?

I think her teacher is really mean especially to Fritzi, and school was really tough for her because everyone is making fun of her, as well as dealing with her teacher.

3. Why do you think Mrs Liesegang encourages Fritzi's classmates to isolate her?

I think it's because Mrs Liesegang thinks that Fritzi did the wrong thing and she also dislikes her, so she wants her out of her class.

4. Why does Fritzi draw the attention of a Stasi agent when she goes to a travel agent to enquire about taking a trip to Hungary?

When the Stasi agent heard Fritzi say she wanted to go to Hungary, he thought that Fritzi was going to be some kind of spy or do something bad.

1. There was a huge electric wall separating the sides of germany. You couldn't go past it since it was illegal.

2. It must if been hard to have such a strict and since she knew that she was at one of the riots and on tv. She must of treater her with less respect than the other students.

3. I don't remember this scene

4. I also don't remember this

@Tyler Nice job! Maybe you can add some other details on the questions, like how you would desribe East Germany instead of just saying that there was an electric border. Also, maybe you can look at the others' posts to refresh your memory on questions three and four. Great work!

How would you characterize/describe East Germany (Officially Know as the German Democratic Republic) in 1989, when then the film was set?

- I would describe East Germany was the communist side of Germany, being more harsh on people, and capturing people escaping to the west, killing them or locking them up. It is kind of mean to do that to Germany people.

2. How would you describe Fritzi's teacher, Mrs. Liesegang? What was school like for Fritzi?

- Mrs. Liesegang was a strict old teacher in Fritzi's class and she made it hard on her a lot and got her in trouble. school was mostly challenging for fritzi because everyone made fun of her, and she was naturally curious for things, unlike everyone else.

- Also, Fritzi always have some opinions that are better than her teacher. That’s why Mrs, Liesegang doesn’t like her at all.

3. Why do you think Mrs Liesegang encourages Fritzi's classmates to isolate her?

- Because fritzi was getting intrested in top secret information and she doesnt want that kind of trouble because she is a stereotypical country lover.

- Fritzi opinions is always different that her classmate opinions. That make Fritzi’s classmates want to bullied her outside the classroom.

4. Why does Fritzi draw the attention of a Stasi agent when she goes to a travel agent to enquire about taking a trip to Hungary?

- I think that Fritzi caught the attention of a Stasi agent because she wants to escape back to Hungary but the border was closed in both side of Germany. So, Fritzi and her friends can’t meet together unless the two border were open in some day.

1. East Germany was a very communist state with high tensions against capitalism.

3. Mrs. Liesegang doesn't want Fritizi's belief to spread around.
