Art and Earth Bites

5/15/2019

Picture
Today we started with Art.  We used students to help understand what translations, rotations and reflections look. We also used our hands show the different movements.  From there the class was given more time to work on their Cheers, as the big performance is tomorrow.  After recess there was music before our Math evaluation.  After lunch we had Earth Bites were groups took turns in the garden, and classroom. In the classroom we talked about hydration, and made a tasty cucumber, mango, radish salad with an apple cider vinigar and honey dressing.  YUM! We ended the day with one last chance to cheer.

Today we started off with a quick Novel club meeting. This meeting was to set an agreed schedule to keep members accountable so everyone has read what is needed to facilitate deep discussions when groups come together.  We then began a perspective photography project, and as pictures rolled off the printer we put all the finishing touches on this special project.  After recess we had our last session on Isolating the Variable to solve one and two step equations.  We will follow up next week to get everyone ready for the Wednesday Evaluation.  In the afternoon we had guest speaker pastor Bethel Lee come in and answer many questions to help build students back ground knowledge for their social studies project.  We ended the day with some creative thinking as sports day groups finished making their cheers and started planning their choreography.

Picture
Today we had Earthbites come in to help support us in growing micro greens. We learned that in as little as 15 days we can grow and enjoy a delicious nutritious salad of arugula, roquette and broccoli. Another amazing thing we learned is that micro greens can be grown on both coconuts husk matt and hemp matt. These hemp matts are called terrafibre. See instructions below:)

We have Chemistry

5/7/2019

Picture
Hooray!  We started the morning working on our team cheers for sports day before rolling into some inquiry time in Socials.  After recess we found time to get back aboard "The Boundless" before we carried on making algebraic expressions from verbal expressions in Math.  In the afternoon we rolled out the new Science Unit on Chemistry.  We will see how elements, compounds and chemical changes connect to the world around us.  The afternoon was brought to a close in the library where some students from Churchill presented a project on feeding the homeless in Vancouver.

Cheer-y Friday

5/5/2019

Picture
Friday started off with a good stretch and energy build with our Fitness Friday, before we rolled into our Word Work evaluation. After recess Division 1 & 2 with their newly announced sports day teams were given a little time to start thinking about what their cheer might look like.  From there, we looked at what some of the algebraic expressions might look like if we put them on a graph.  After lunch was another Tennis session before an afternoon of French as students get ready to lead their friends on a short adventure using the French we have been learning.

Sports Day teams

Today we started off with time to write our powerful response piece to our second picture book.  We were given the template to help us see what a good powerful response might look like.  After recess we rolled into our reading of "The Boundless", before our Algebra lesson on substiting to solve an expression.  In the afternoon we began to see what our Socials Project might look like, and were given some time to do a little inquiry.  At 2pm things got shaken up with our big earthquake drill.  We spent the afternoon outside while we practiced what it would look like if there was an earthquake with injuries and students being released to parents.
