A Delicious Hands-On Learning Experience

What comes to mind when you think of a science experiment? Test tubes, fire, chemical reactions, baking soda and vinegar? This science experiment is completely different from any of those, and the best part is that it is very tasty!

This excellent hands-on experiment that my class did in grade 4 is making your own ice cream – you get to savor a tasty treat while learning the science behind how it was made. You add some salt to a large bag, then pour milk into a smaller bag and put it into the larger bag. Add some ice into the larger bag, and you're set to make your treat. All you need to do is aggressively shake it as if it was a sticky slime stuck to your hand, and within a few minutes the milk will thicken into a yummy ice cream! The milk turns into ice cream because the ice makes it colder, and the salt lowers the freezing point of anything it touches, allowing the milk to get colder without freezing. The shaking lets the salt and ice cool down the milk more evenly.

After eons of shaking until our hands were sore, we saw the milk steadily solidify until it was ready to eat. Everyone was thrilled to finally be able to enjoy the fruit of their labour. My classmates rushed to open the bag and dipped their spoons in to devour dollops of ice cream like a blue whale swallowing 1 ton of krill. Sadly, I was not able to eat the ice cream due to a dairy allergy. However, the process of making it was still very enjoyable, and I learned lots.

@Emily- That is pretty cool (pun intended) that you had so much fun making a sweet treat that you couldn't eat. I am surprised everyone loved it so much without sugar! Or did you add sugar? Just curious.

Jojo’s Bizzare Adventure

Do you have that one tv show, video game or movie or anything that you’re just a super fan of, I definitely do and it’s a Manga/Anime named Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure. I first learned about from the internet, I saw a lot of people saying that it was very good and I knew my dad read some of the Manga already so I decided to watch it.

Jojo has been going on for over 30 years and there is 8 parts, part 9 is also already announced too. So I can’t even really even scratch the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Jojo but I’ll try to give you the big idea of it. In every part there’s a different main character from the Joestar blood line, (sometimes you will see something from the previous parts though). For the first 2 parts we the main power system is Hamon, It’s basically just magical sunlight technique. But from part 3 and on we barely hear anything about Hamon again and we get the cooler power system called Stands. Stands are kind of like a spirit that is owned by the Stand users and every Stand has it’s own power or ability and only some people can wield stands. The ability is usually based off the stand users characteristics or strengths.Only Stand users can see there stands and or other Stands. Stand users can only have one stand each (except when this guy with multiple personality disorder gets 2 ). Some examples of Stand abilities are stopping time, turning some one into a book and read there information, touch anything with you’re stand and turning that into a hidden bomb, make anything turn into a life form and at least 100 more, (I’m not even exaggerating).

In Jojo the fights are more like mind games then actual fights some people have Stands that can literally erase time and rewind time. But some people have Stands that is literally just a deadly pylon and Rock Paper Scissors. Somehow Jojo treats every battle like it’s the most epic ever, there’s always outsmarting each other and the tables can turn at anytime. One of my favorited battle is the final battle of part 5. When the main cast, all with there unique abilities fight a stand user who can erase time and see 10 seconds into the future, ( he breaks a previous established Stand rule because he has multiple personality disorder). The final battle lasts 3 whole episodes which is one hour of one singular battle and I loved every second of it.

The stakes in Jojo are raised super high too you’re favourite character can die pretty much at anytime and you get so invested in the story.Speaking of characters. The characters in Jojo are so good too they all have there struggles and backstory and you really root for them throughout their journey. Every character has such good character design too, they look cool and if you showed me a character from Jojo and I didn’t know what Jojo is I could probably still kind of guess the characteristics of the character.

Hirohiho Araki (the mangaka behind jojo) is a genius too. If you showed anyone that likes anime or manga a character from Jojo they will definitely know. The art style and character designs are so iconic. He also is so creative too some of the stuff in Jojo no one that isn’t the mangaka of Jojo can’t even make this up for example a Pylon Stand ( that I mentioned already), a video game stand, a stand user that is a cat, there’s aliens, ghosts, DINOSAURS, ALTERNATE UNIVERSES and as I said in the beginning I still haven’t even scratched the iceberg. Jojo truly is a bizarre franchise.
