My book club went well. The only main thing that ruined it was that we didn't have enough time. I learned a lot from my group on their opinions on the characters. What went well was we didn't get off task a lot and quickly went back to discussing the book.

I think the overall success in our book club discussion today is that we all shared our thoughts and feelings about the book. We also learned from others while reading the thinking and learning questions. One thing that went well is that almost everybody had a different opinion about something so we were able to deepen our own thinking and we had a deeper conversation. Something we will do differently next time is ask questions about things we didn't understand and to speak louder and comment on people's opinions.

In my bookclub group review went pretty well today. We successfully went through our thoughts and opinions through out the time we had. One thing I would do differently would be keeping my group on topic. There was some time where we would start talking about random stuff. Most of the time we would go back to the topic pretty quickly.

I'm pretty sure our overall success in our discussion is sharing our opinions on the book respectfully and in order. What went well is that we respected each other and didn't talk when a fellow classmate was sharing. Also another thing was that each opinion was much different which changed our minds and had different a prospective on the book. Next time one thing i will to do/change is to creating a conversation deepening each individuals understand a bit more.

Camila

The overall success in the discussion today is that we all shared to the group how we felt while reading the book.

One thing that went well, everyone in the group had something different to say (as Miikka said) when we were doing the gift of words and the thinking and learning questions. We had a lot to discuss about as everyone said something different for each section.
What we will do differently next time is we will ask questions on other peoples opinions if we don't understand what was said and to speak a bit louder because not everyone heard what everyone had said.

I think our first book club meeting went pretty well. I'd say about a 9/10 on the Aaron's book club meeting scale which is very good. Most of us participated in the discussions and all of us finished our work on time. I think one thing that went well was that everyone had at least one interesting thing to share. I don't think we have to do anything differently next time other than maybe sharing out thinking and learning questions first and doing the gift of words after instead of the other way around. So we can finish our thinking and learning and do some gift of words in the time provided. I don't think anyone pushed my thinking today. Most of the things other people said pretty much line up with mine.

I think our first Novel approach went pretty well, the ideas we had we very good, but next time I think we can talk about what we read so far, and it was a little small, but I can't really remember what pushed my thinking and we had a lot of the same thing, but just a small difference

Overall, I think our first book club meeting was a success! Everyone completed their readings and the pages that went with them. We all took turns and listened respectfully as our group members shared as well as staying on task most of the time. At first, everyone was a little reluctant to share, but as the meeting went on, everyone got around to sharing more than just "Ummm same as _____" I'm definitely not pointing fingers cough cough. Next time I think we will try to move a little faster as we weren't quite able to finish all of the thinking and learning questions as well as the Gift of Words. Our weekly sections are pretty big so we might skip over the less important points next time. While discussing our Gift of Words and thinking and thinking and learning questions, I didn't really learn too many new things, but my group members brought up some really interesting points and added to my thinking.

Overall all of us did pretty well we understood what everyone and learned about what everyone was thinking.
Next time we should get prepared before we start the novel study meeting because when we started most of us were still were in the washroom.
Everyone basically were thinking of the same thing during our meeting

Novel Approach

This first discussion went pretty good as we were on topic most of the time but didn’t get to finish our discussion because or gift of words took to long. Next time we should do the same thing we did today but try to finish the whole discussion. Issac pushed my thinking and made me think a little bit different then what I shared.

David

Overall, our book club was a success, as we were able to cooperatively discuss our thoughts and share our perspectives on the Gift of Words and the Thinking and Learning Questions, with each of us learning something new to add to our mind. Most of us were hesitant to share, and if we did, it could be sidetracked or little. Something to help move along our club meetings could be connecting. Most of us added from Background Knowledge, not actual experience. Relating helps build a better discussion. I'm not entirely sure if there was something new to help, but our conversations had interesting ideas and views which helped push our thinking.

Overall, Our first meeting went pretty well. We all shared our thoughts and opinions on gift of words and the learning intentions. Our group was mostly prepared and a couple times we got off track. Next time I think that we should ask more questions that would bring deeper thinking to the table. Also I didn't really learn anything new but I did wrote down some of other people thinking and opinions that sparked my thinking aswell.

Overall our book club went very well. We all talked about our opinions and got some deep thinking. I think what went well was we took turns and no one interrupted others much. We also had a pretty okay noise level. For next my book club will talk more about what we read then just the Gift of Words and the Thinking question. We also need to push thinking because I don't recall much of that in our meeting.

Emily
4/11/2018 08:01:53 pm

I think that overall, our book club meeting was a success. Everybody came prepared with all materials, had read the pages assigned, and completed the section of the booklet we agreed on. This made it so that we weren't held back by one person not having done their part. I think something that went well was that we weren't disrespectful about not agreeing with ideas, and that we were pretty ok with sharing. As for what we could do better next time, I think that we might want to allot our time a little better. We were pretty on task throughout, but we did have 23 Gift of Words to get through, and its no wonder that we didn't make it through. Next time, if we have quite a few Gift of Words again, I think our group should consider starting with the Thinking and Learning questions, finish those up, and then move on to the Gift of Words if we have time. Sofia helped push my thinking along by bringing up the difference between Vancouver and India (where our story takes place) in terms of the divide between the rich and the poor. Our group had a pretty meaningful discussion about that idea, and I learned lots.

I feel that overall our discussion went well. Something that was defidently a plus, was that we were all prepared. Everyone had read up to the correct pages, and completed their work. We all kind of had similar thinking, but at the same time I think that we also pushed each other’s knowledge in a way, and if needed were able to respectfully disagree. For next time, we probably shouldn’t start with our gift of words, because in the end, we didn’t get to finish everything because we had a lot of discussion. We could also lower our volume a little :) I would say the person that pushed my thinking the most, was probably Kento. He made connections that got my BK working more.

Today, we had our first Novel Approach Meeting!

1. What I expected was that everyone was just go around in a circle, saying their opinions, or that some people would just agree with someone and we would move on; but, everyone was pretty eager to share, and even though we did go around in a circle, we kinda talked over each other.

2. We were all focused on sharing and was pretty excited about it. Lawerence "naturally" became the "director" of the group and starting reading the questions and gift of words after we finish one.

3. We should definitely work on over talking each other, but I'm glad everyone was enthusiastic. We weren't distracted by other groups or went side-tracked severely.

4. A bunch of people confirmed my understanding of the definitions of some words I didn't understand in gift of words; most I was pretty close, guessing from the words surrounding it. Since Jerry has already read the book, he asked as some interesting questions with answers to be known in the future. Definitely pushed our thinking and kept us guessing.

Overall, our discussion was pretty good. Everyone wading respecting others, and we stayed on topic (most of the time). Everyone in my group pushed my thingking at least on one gift of word, or the thinking and learning questions. Next time maybe we should talk about was we thought about the parts that we were reading first and then talk about the learning and thinking questions, and gift of words. Almost I think when we discuss the gift or words, we should let 1 person say it, and if anyone disagrees, they can say why, but if everyone agrees then we can move on.

Daniel
4/11/2018 11:42:18 pm

I think my groups book club mostly went well, with occasionally becoming off topic but not for very long. We finished the whole discussion on time and we were back on topic fairly quickly whenever we were off topic. What we did well was that most of our group shared their ideas and if they didn’t agree they would mostly politely disagree and back up their opinion with reasonable evidence. The only thing I think that should have been different is to not interrupt each other mid sentence. The only thing that changed my thinking was the gift of words describing someones eyes. I thought he was just referring to how his eyes had been lighter on the outer side of the eyeball, and darker closer towards the pupil.

Eric. Z
4/12/2018 12:33:11 am

Overall, my group and I did ok. I wasn't really prepared, which is something I could work on. At first we were a bit off task, but Mr. Hong helped us and we made rich onversations. My group members helped me with some gift of words, because I didn't know some of them meant.

Coco
4/12/2018 06:20:37 pm

I think our group did pretty good since it was our first group meeting and we did it in a pretty good pace.

Something that went well was that we each took turns sharing our gift of words and adding to each others thinking. We also pushed each others thinking and helped each other out if someone had a different answer than all of us, we would go back to that page and reread the sentence and all agree on what was right.

Next time, I will remember to check in with everyone if they finished or not because in our first group discussion, someone forgot to finish which was okay but I will definitely remember to check up on my group members. We also need to work on not interrupting one another when sharing.

Something that changed/pushed my thinking were my gift of words. For some of them, I had a different meaning from another group member but we looked into the context around the word and we came to a conclusion of what the word was referring to.
