Descriptive Feedback ! (click to see post)

Today was the first full day of classes. Division 2 students reviewed the safety procedures and spent some time getting to know each other and their teacher. Students were also introduce to the BIG 6 Principles of Leaning through our name tag project. Studnets got the LEARNING INTENTION and then together as a class we co-created SUCCESS CRITERIA for the project! After this student got underway planning their name tags and the peer and teacher ASSESSMENT & DESCRIPTIVE FEEDBACK started. We finished off the day with a math assessment and and introduction to our Word Work Vocabulary building program! What a great first day!
IMPORTANT:
  • Bring in your signed Health Assessment Forms Tomorrow
  • Show your parents the class website!

1.) HOME READING: 30 minutes and fill out your home reading calendar

2.) TECHNOLOGY: Students are encouraged to bring their own tech to school to help support their learning

3.) MATH: We will complete the pre-test tomorrow

4.) WORD WORK: We will learn how to do the word analysis tomorrow. Students can start studying the spellings and meaning for the Word Work Evaluation/Test on Friday

5.) NAME TAGS: Complete the planning page for tomorrow

6.) POST A RESPONSE:

Learning Intention: I can write a paragraph explaining three of the BIG 6 Principles of Learning

Success Criteria:
  • Include the three principles: Learning Intentions, Success Criteria, Descriptive Feedback
  • Explain what each each of the three principles means
  • Use an example to help explain the three principles (examples could be: baking cookies, making paper airplane, writing a poem, makinga name tag, etc.)
  • Use correct punctuation (the GIVENS) capitals, periods, commas, spelling etc.
  • Proofread you work before you post!

Reply to another studnets post and give them some descriptive feedback on their paragraph.

Three Big Principles of Learning
1. Learning Intention
A learning intention is a statement that tells you what you are going to do. For example, if you are going to your friend’s house to bake cinnamon rolls, your learning intention might be “I can bake soft and chewy cinnamon rolls.”
2. Success Criteria
A success criteria is a list of detailed instructions that is followed when doing work. Success criteria are used for a reference when evaluating work. For example, today in Mr. Fisher’s class, our class created a success criteria on making name tags. Some notes we brainstormed are bolding words and giving thought into the colours we use.
3. Descriptive Feedback
Descriptive feedback is a detailed comment that gives advice. For example, if you are organizing some papers to put on a poster board, your friend beside you might point out some ideas of where you could put the papers.

Jeffrey

Very well written piece of work. One thing I would change is the way you wrote the last example. It says "your friend beside you might point out some ideas of where you could put the papers." When you said the word might, I felt like it was not pointing directly at Descriptive feedback. It felt a little off saying "Might". If I were to write it, I would say "One example is when you are putting up papers, your friends say "Hey, it would look very nice if you put it there." ". Like that, one will be looking directly at the descriptive feedback part.

Hi Jeffrey,
OK, thanks for your feedback! I will try to write you some advice :)

Mr. Fisher

@Jeffrey and Rhea- Great communication. Let's keep the language we use the same. Let use the word "feedback" instead of advice! Way to go you two. Keep supporting the learning!

@Mr. Fisher
Do we need to rewrite our response?

@Rhea- Feedback should always be applied as quickly as possible. So if you have time, please make some revisions based on the feedback you have received and see if you like your new version better:)

2. Success Criteria
A success criteria is a list of detailed instructions that is followed when doing work. Success criteria are used for a reference when evaluating work. Learning Intentions: A learning intention is what one is meant to do. It is they are directions on what to do. For example, if one is trying to make a drawing of their teacher, the learning intention is to "Draw the teacher". This allows one to have a simply thing they are aiming to do.

Success Criteria: A success criteria is a list of what should be accomplished at the end. For example, if one is making a pizza and their success criteria demands them to make a seven inch pizza with ten slices, they will be change on the go to make sure they tick all the boxes.

Descriptive Feedback: Descriptive feedback is a comment that gives important advice on what you could change on something thing to make it better. For example, if somebody made a piece art in black and white and Joe told him "Maybe you should add some colour to it.". That would be descriptive feedback.

Rhea

Hi Jeffrey,
I like how your writing is very concise. One thing that is not very clear to me is "they will be change on the go to make sure they tick all the boxes." Do you have another way to express that thought?

Three of the 6 Big Principles of Learning

1.Learning intention:
Learning intentions which some people call learning goals, is the statement of what students are expected to learn from the lesson are taught in class. Ex. there is a toy car racing tournament, if you won, your learning intention could be "This kind of cars with weights in the front and a wing in the back makes the car super fast."

2.Success Criteria:
A success criteria is a set of instructions you followed made by your teacher, parents, etc. that is related to what your doing. For ex., you are doing a project at school, and the instructions are to at least have a picture, have some examples, etc. And you must include it in the project.

3. Descriptive Feedback:
Descriptive feedback is when someone or you give some advice or suggestions to help make your or their work stand out and have better style to get better grades. For example, you are drawing for the teachers new basketball team logo, and somehow the basketball name is "Tigers", you draw a tiger, and then your friend comes and says, "Maybe you could draw two basketballs under the tigers two front paw, and maybe you can add three stripes on his forehead." And that is very descriptive and specific so when you fix the logo, it would look way better and it would look more attractive to some people, maybe they think it looks cool.

Aaron
9/14/2020 06:48:26 pm

I am Aaron and I am going to introduce three of the learning principles.
These three principles are learning intention, success criteria and descriptive feedback.

1, learning intention
Learning intention is basically the goal of learning, for example, if the work is write about your family then the learning intention is "write about your family".

2, success criteria
Success criteria is like what case if you are success, for example if you are making a chocolate cookie the success criteria is that the cookie need to have chocolate on it and it's tasty.

3, descriptive feedback
Descriptive feedback is suggestions that people give to you, for example if I drawed a picture and my brother gives me a suggestion to let it get better that's a descriptive feedback.

Dillon

1.Learning intention:For an
example, this math test cannot get wrong over 12 places, and the 12 places is the Success Criteria.
3.Descriptive Feedback:
Learning intenion is that the things you want to learn. For an example, if you went to a drawing class, what is the learning intenion? It's that
you are learning how to draw things more better.
2.Success Criteria:
Success Criteria is a limit, you cannot be less than it.
Descriptive Feedback is that someone gives better Suggest to your work. For an example, if your friend sai to your art that the man is too small, than that is an Success Criteria.

Three Big Principles of Learning

1.Learning intention:
Learning intentions which some people call learning goals, is the statement of what students are expected to learn from the lesson are taught in class. Ex: today in class Mr fisher taught us how to do the nametage and the spelling pre-test! Also sometime the work is about your family you can write about you family then that is Learning intention.

2, success criteria
Success criteria is like what case if you are success, Ex: you are barking a cookies at home you need to have a Success criteria because you need to use the criteria to know how to make cookies.

3. Descriptive Feedback:
Descriptive feedback is when someone or you give some advice or suggestions to help make your or their work stand out and have better style to get better mark. Ex: if I make a cake and I take it to my friends to try for it and they will give me a Feedback then that will let me Know how to make the cake better and better.

Mr. Fisher

@Shirley- What kind of success criteria might there be for making chocolate chip cookies? What kind of specific descriptive feedback might you get if the cookies were really yummy?

Principles of Learning: Learning Intentions, Success Criteria, Descriptive Feedback

The first of the Learning Principles are the Learning Intentions. The Learning Intentions is the target you have for the task at hand, as well as some basic guidelines to guide you for that task. After Learning Intentions, you will need to create the Success Criteria, which is another set of guidelines, but dig deeper into the end product.

The second of the Learning Principles is the Success Criteria. The Success Criteria is the criteria you set for your work and the criteria you want the end product to follow. The criteria is helpful, because if you feel your work is missing something, you can always refer to your criteria and see what exactly you wanted for that piece of work in the beginning.

The third of the Principles is the Descriptive Feedback. It is feedback and suggestions you get from peers and teachers to help improve and make your work better. Descriptive Feedback is very useful and helps you to see your work in different angles and points of view.

Hi Annisa,
I think you miss your examples that you suppose to list under the three principals.

Mr. Fisher

@Danise- Great feedback! Thank you for supporting the learning of others! This makes me sooooo happy!!!!!!

Danise

1. Learning Intentions: Learning Intentions it means a goal on doing an activities and there's directions to guide you what to do. For example you are folding a frog to enter a tournament with your friends and see who jump further, then your learning intention can be "I can fold a frog that can jump till 60 cm instead of 50 cm"
2. Sucess Criteria: Sucess Criteria means a list of things that you need to do to achieve your learning intention. For Example you are baking a cake and your sucess criteria is to watch not to burn the cake and time it, so you can take your cake out without getting the cake burn.
3.Descriptive Feedback: Descreptive Feedback means givung advice to make your work better. For example you draw a picture and other classmates give you some feedback like "you should add some colour in your drawing" or "you should add some more flowers to make it fancier. And when you do the feedback that your classmates tell you to do, your picture will probably look better.

Learning intention-
A learning intention is a guide, or a first step for planning. You could aim for a very specific thing or a less specific thing with it. It’s basically ‘What are you going to do?’ Examples for a less specific thing could be “I want to write a sad book” and for a specific one “I want to write a sad book with (insert characters) and have an (insert ending) for an end”

Success criteria-
Success criteria is something you need to achieve to pass. It is like the minimum amount of work you need to put. If your writing an essay one of the success criteria could be have at least 1500 words, and so you need atleast 1500 words on your essay.

Descriptive feedback-
Descriptive feedback is feedback, but more specific and detailed. For example some random feedback could be ‘More colors’ and descriptive feedback could be “Maybe add some more yellow, and less red” because it is more specific, and could help more than just “more color less color“

Colleen

Learning intention is a goal that you want to achieve. For example if your doing math and you need to learn division then that's the learning intention

Success criteria is a list of things that you need to do when working on something. For example if your making a project in school some of the things that would be in a success criteria would be to make it colourful or make it so it's good.

Descriptive feedback is basically giving feedback about someones work. For example, if your friend is making something and you think they could add more pictures, then you tell them they should add more pictures.

A Learning intention is a guide to help students get better at understanding what they are studying. For example if you are doing math and you have multiply and you don’t know how to do it you would ask the teacher. He/she would explain you the learning intention which in this case is repeated addition.
A Success criteria is a criteria to help you know to steps of the assignment. For example if you have to do a school project you would have to go over a success criteria to help you know what you should do and what you shouldn’t do for the project.
Descriptive feedback is giving advice to others to help their work get better. For example if your classmate is doing a PowerPoint presentation and their fonts are too small to read, you can give them descriptive feedback telling them to make their font bigger.

Learning intention
A learning intention is a description of what you should know and be able to do by the end of the unit. For example, if you're baking, and you need to know how to use the mixer or oven, that's your learning intention.
Success criteria
Success criteria is a list of what you are supposed to have in your work. When you're baking, you have to have all the ingredients to bake the recipe or it won't succeed.
Descriptive feedback
Descriptive feedback means to give yourself or someone else detailed and specific tips and advice to make your work better and successful. If you were to give someone feedback, you should tell them exactly what could be different and make the entire piece of work better than it was.

1. Learning intention. Learning intentions are like a goal. It’s what you hope to achieve from whatever you’re doing. There can be multiple learning intentions from one piece of work.
Exp.
If you are painting a landscape, the learning intention could be: “I want to learn to paint a landscape that has the correct colours and perspective and is very detailed.”
2. Success criteria. Success criteria is exactly how it sounds. It’s a list of things that must be achieved for the work to be deemed successful. The success criteria is usually a list of different goals.
Exp.
If you are assigned to write an essay, the success criteria could look something like this: “Must have a clear topic
Must have at least 1000 words
Must have correct punctuation
Must include references.”
3. Descriptive feedback. Descriptive feedback is basically like constructive criticism. It’s supposed to give a detailed response and help to make yours or other’ work better. It’s different from regular criticism by helping more instead of critiquing.
Exp.
A common example of descriptive feedback is in something like a painting class. The teacher could give you advice on how to apply colours to make whatever style you’re painting better.

1. Learning intentions
Learning intentions are the "I can"s that list the goals of doing a project that you're assigned to. For example, in Gr. 5 the learning intentions of the poetry project were that we could use the rules of different types of poetry to write poems.

2. Success criteria
Success criteria is a list of requirements that you must have in order to be successful. For instance, if you were given a writing project, the success criteria might look something like this:

Must have 100 words
Must have correct spelling
Must be specifically detailed
Must include references

You must check to make sure your writing meets all the requirements... juts like what we're doing now.

3. Descriptive feedback
Descriptive feedback is feedback that is specific and detailed. For instance, when you're painting, other people might think it needs to be improved so they tell you to add more colours or make a line more curvy to improve the quality of your painting.
