i think the story is trying to mystifying a boy who ask the loving tree to give what he wants and i think the character learned that money don't grow on trees because the boy kept asking till the tree had nothing so he stayed with the tree.

The giving tree poem is a poem about a boy and a tree that gives him everything.

I think the big idea of the poem is how the boy took the tree for granted. The boy had no wife, job, house, or kids. So he kept coming back to tree asking for more like, a house, money, kids, and wife. The tree eventually ran out of things to give him and he sat down on the stump with nothing left in his life. The tree was like a parent to him supplying everything he wanted to satisfy and give him somewhere to go or something to do. But with no one looking after him, he was left with nothing but a stump despite this the tree was satisfied and happy with all that she did.

I think this was the big idea because the relationship they had is called commensalism, only 1 organism was benefitting from the tree and that was of course the boy. Who kept nagging at the tree until there was nothing but a stump. Even though the tree gave everything he still ended up coming back with nothing. He was sad, alone, and tired.

However the boy learned that even though he couldn't do anything else and he had used everything the tree had, he still decided to sit on the stump showing his appreciation for the only thing he had left.

I think the big idea of this story is how strong love can be, and how much you can just give just for the sake of one. The tree loved the boy so much, she just killed herself basically so the boy can be the teeniest happy. For instance she gave him apples when money made him happy, cut her branches when a house made the boy happy, and cut her trunk when the boy wanted a boat. She didn't know that she was just a stump now, but she still wants the boy to be happy, so she gave him the one possible thing left to give, a place to sit and rest.

I think that the big idea is… That the boy was never happy unless he got something. So he would go to the tree, and take her for granted. He never got what he wanted in a real life situation, so he went to the tree and asked for it. The tree gave him all that she had. And
he was still not happy. And he always wanted more. So the tree just wanted a boy to be happy, by giving everything she had away and by the end, the tree had nothing and the boy was still not happy.

kb

I think the main idea is, always be thankful for what you get. If you want something YOU NEED TO EARN IT yourself. Work hard for the things you want, fight for your future. You might face hard times in your life but, you will never be facing them alone. There would always be someone who will help and stay by your side no matter what. They would help you achieve your goals.

One day, after several months or years the boy came back to the tree. Then, the tree said " Come, boy, come and climb up my trunk and swing from my branches and eat apples and play in my shade and be happy "
" I am too big to climb and play. " said the boy.
" I want to buy things and have fun. I want some money? "
" I am sorry, " said the tree, " but I have no money. I have only leaves and apples. Take my apples, boy, and sell them in the city. Then you will have money and will be happy. "
And so the boy climbed up the tree and gathered her apples and carried them away.

This poem " The Giving Tree " reminded me of my younger self. Back then, I would always ask for money! I would buy myself a toy from my favorite toy store, and also buy some sweets! I used to call that " My Happiness " I just kept on spending money, every single day I buy something from the store. I never got sick of it! After several years...I had finally changed my definition of happiness. My happiness is not money anymore, its about spending time with family and friends.

I believe that the big idea of the giving tree is that the tree is a parental figure, and the boy is well, a boy. Weird idea at first, but then again, it was a story of a living tree that practically ended her life for a boys happiness. I believe so based on how the tree and "boy" acted. In the boys early years he only needed the tree for happiness, but as he grew up he started wanting more things, and taking the tree for granted. For example, the tree gave her apples away so the boy could have money, then all of her trunk so he could make a house, which would be impossible unless his house is like 4 square feet. and all the tree wanted in return was the boy to be happy. And this reminded me of my Mom, because i know she would do the same for me, for me to be happy, but i don't know if she would give me her life savings :/

I think the big idea of “The Giving Tree” is about the selflessness and relationships people have with each other. The boy took everything from the tree and even when she was basically destroying herself, she continued giving everything she had.

This poem reminded me of the relationship between the Earth and humans. The tree represented the Earth and the boy represented the humans. It reminded me of how some humans take so much from the Earth without caring about how their actions affect the Earth. The boy took the branches, apples and the trunk from the tree and left the tree alone for a long time and never appreciated the tree.

The selflessness from the tree was from how much more the tree cared about the boy then herself. As the boy grew older, he never thanked her and seemed ungrateful for the tree. Even when the boy came back after a long time, the tree was always happy to see the boy. Seeing the boy happy and knowing she was helping and she was able to provide for the boy made her happy.

In the end, the tree almost had nothing but was still able to give everything she had left.

I think the big idea of “the giving tree” is about how strong can love and happiness be. The boy would come and ask the tree for like money, a house and a boat. The tree basically killed herself for the boy and I really think that the boy should’ve been more thankful. At the end the the tree had nothing and the I felt like the boy was still not happy at the end.

I thought the big idea of the story was to be kind to everyone and always be kind to people that are kind to you. I think everyone should be kind to each other because one small act of kindness can inspire others to be kinder.

In the story, the tree always gives the young boy everything she has. With what in return? Absolutely nothing. The tree finds joy when the boy climbs and swings on her branches. The boy only comes to the tree for something he needs.

The boy should have at least dedicated 10 minutes to play with the tree. If he had the time to make a house and a boat he would've definitely been able to climb up a tree and eat apples. I do like how he took some time to sit on her stump at the end, though.

I saw this youtube video and they took notes and observed how many people held the door open for people. Only about 20-30% of people held the door open for people, well at least where they lived. This is an extremely low percentage so, I think everyone should do at least one random act of kindness a day. The world would be a much nicer place if we did.

In my opinion I feel the big idea is how much parents care for their children. The giving tree has many similar attributes as a parent. The child when born plays with the parents, while the parents enjoy teaching and taking care of the child. The tree protects the boy, and plays with the boy. When the boy leaves he comes back once in a while. When a child grows old enough to take care of himself he leaves the home he grew up in and pursues what he desires, coming back occasionally. The parents support their child by giving them what they have until they have almost nothing. The giving tree gives the boy Money, A home, and a boat. Until the tree is nothing but a stump. These things are exactly identical to each other. You should try to understand how much your parents care for you and compare it to this.

I think that the deep meaning of the story is the unconditional love from the tree to the boy. The tree would give parts of itself to the boy to make him happy, and the tree loved the boy very much even though she was basically destroying herself. All the tree wanted was the boy to feel happy so she would give him anything he wanted.

There was this one line saying "...and she loved the boy." and this caught my attention quickly because when the author said 'she', it reminded me of my mother and not only mine but many of the mothers. This reminded me of mothers because they would do anything for their children. The tree would be the mother and the boy would be the child. A mother would do or give anything for the child to benefit him/her.

So I think the DEEPER BIG IDEA in the story was that GIVING was much more important than recieveing. I also think the boy was everything to the giving tree because she sacrificed herself so the boy could be happy even though the giving tree was destroying herself bit by bit.

The writer mentioned how much she cared for this boy that if she could help him then she would be happy. The tree was like a mother to the boy she will sacrifice herself so that her “son” could be happy.

What I think the big idea is, is that the tree is giving so much to the boy while the tree gets nothing in return. The boy keeps moving on while the tree is not. The tree is always willing to give the boy what it can and is taking more care of the boy than itself. The tree just wants to spend a good time with the boy but the boy only comes when he needs something. The tree wants the old times to come back but it’s not really working.

I think that the big idea of The Giving Tree is be thankful of what you get. The boy kept wanting more and more as he grew older. He wanted a wife, children, house, money and even wanted to go away. However, the tree loved the boy so much that she gave him everything she have. The boy should be thankful of what he got but not keep asking and wanting more. He got everything from the tree but he didn't give anything to the tree in return, not even spend a good time with her. The tree just wanted to spend some good time and make the boy happy.

The Giving Tree

Today in class we did visible thinking on the book The Giving Tree. We had to try to figure out the big idea of the story.

I think that the big idea of the story is friendships are hard and sometimes you have to decide certain things for example what’s better for other people rather than just yourself. The boy took the tree for granted and took everything from the tree. The tree decided to give it to him because the tree wanted to make the boy happy even though she (tree) was slowly destroying herself. She gave her apples, branches, and trunk to the boy. That was basically the whole tree. She gave herself away for the boy.

I think that in a relationship it is good to receive and give because they are both important roles in friendship. I think that it would be hard to give selflessly and still be happy unless your goal is to always make the other person happy.

This is what I think the big idea is. It’s sad and happy but this is what I think the big idea of ‘The Giving Tree’ is.

Today, our class read the giving tree, and I had a thought of what the main idea could've been.

I think the big idea was that we should care for trees, because trees give us many of our daily resources. For example our homes, paper, tables and much more. Well, to support this, the boy in the story loved the tree but as he grew older he didn't seem to care as much. He would always ask the tree for things and the tree would always be willing too. This means, whether we love trees or not, they would always provide us with resources. Soon, as the boy became very old, he probably started to realize how much the tree had help him. The tree has learned that she can be really useful, while the boy learned that trees are also very helpful.

So to conclude this, this story is trying to tell us to care for our trees and environment because they give us the essentials we need.

I think that the big idea for the giving tree is the compassion that the giving tree and the boy have for each other. This is due the fact that the tree had been with the boy since the boy was little and the tree loved him as though he were the tree's child.

This kindness of the giving tree was not exactly fair but to the tree, I think that just having the opportunity to be with him made it fair. Another thing that I would like to add is that the boy always came to the tree whenever it needed something and didn't give it anything in return. Then, I think that he realized that should have spent more time with the tree for everything that the tree did for him so it was nice when he went back to the tree at the end where he spent some time together with it.

Like this I believe that the main idea for this story is compassion for each other and that you should also realize in what various people have done for you.

We did visible thinking on The Giving Tree today where we set purposes, used BK to make connections, and tried to find out the big idea.

I think that the big idea of The Giving Tree is that we should return the favour and give back when someone gives you something, especially if it is a loved one. In the story the tree loves the boy very much and so she gives the boy her all. Anything the boy wanted, she tried her best to give it to him. I thought that it was unfair to the tree as he got everything he wanted from the tree but the tree didn't really get anything in return even though he loved her. Speaking of that, a line on the story that said "and the boy loved the tree.... very much." caught my eye. The boy had always left the tree alone after getting what he wanted from her. This was unusual to me because if he loved the tree, would he really keep her as a loner for long periods of time?

Mr. Hong commented on my paper "Who does the tree represent in your life?" The tree represents my family in my life as they have given me so much. Love, life and a family to have in the first place. I'm very thankful for them.

In conclusion I think that the big idea of The Giving Tree is that we should return the favour and give back when someone gives you something.

The big idea of the Giving Tree, in my opinion, is about love and how sometimes love can overpower many other things that we would consider important. The tree, with no family and other friends, relies on the boy to accompany her, play with her, and be with her.

The tree sincerely loves the boy very much. In the story, it says that she was always overjoyed whenever he came back to her. Because of her love for him, everytime he comes back, she sacrifices a part of herself just to make and see him happy. Her love for him is like that of a mother and child.

The boy, who loved the tree dearly as a kid, learns, in the end, that all he ever needed was a friend like the Giving Tree. As he rests on her stump, his world is complete.

Happiness is a great gift, but happiness, in this case, comes with a price. The years that the tree spent alone, her apples, her trunk, her branches. But, the tree doesn’t care about what she has lost compared to what she has gained. Both she and the boy have gained happiness.

In conclusion, the big idea, in my opinion, is how powerful love can be. Love is all around us. Warm, beautiful, and strong.

The Giving Tree is a quite famous book. It’s story is very cliche but also very sad. But has anybody synthesized and evaluated the bid idea? Here’s what I think it is:

I think the big idea is to not be too greedy. The boy loved the tree when he was a child. He played with her, and the tree loved him back, as fiercely as a mother tiger protecting her cubs. But as time went on, the boy began using the tree for his own personal gain. First, he took the tree’s apples, and then the branches and leaves, and finally the rest of the trunk as well. The author stated in the book that “the tree was happy”, but in my opinion, not quite. The boy took advantage of the tree’s affection to him and literally slaughtered the poor tree without giving anything back to the tree. He would ditch the tree for a long time and come back only when he needs something again.

I think the tree has probably leaned that she would never truly satisfy the boy’s greedy heart, and the boy must have learned that you can only push someone so far before they break.

RIP tree....

Yiming

I think this book is about how important being happy and having a good friend ship is. The tree gave away everything In exchange for the boys happiness and her being happy.
