I think some of the clear messages that were presented during the presentation was that you don't need fancy stuff to make stuff that connects us together. It also shows us that you don't know a certain language to connect.

Nice Lawrence! But I think you need to elaborate on those ideas to make a paragraph. 👌

To me, I think it’s saying like anything is possible. Like one day, we’ll be able to travel across grounds with cars the covers hundreds of miles and just a few hours (or less), one day we can travel safely (most of th time) and comfortably (again, most of the time) by flying across the sky using vehicles never thought were possible to be in use. Then there’s instruments made from garbage, recycled objects and discreded materials. They may not look like much in the outside, but when you hear it, in a way, it touches the soul and sounds more beautiful than instruments made from proper materials. It’s like saying, you don’t have to be rich, living in the city, have enough to afford and instrument to play with own one. Same with the fact that you don’t have to be made of clean new wood, brass, new metals and materials to be an instrument. Very clearly, in the show, the conductor didn’t speak the same language. But we all felt happiness, excitement, recognition, sadness and the beauty of th flow of the music as a musician and as the audience. You don’t have to speak the same language to know what they’re trying to express through music.

What I think that the harmonic landfill concert meant, is that what ever you have or where ever you are you can make music. If your heart desires to do something then you can accomplish it. Another thing the group said was we might not speak the same language but we speak through the music and I think that is a good message towards everyone.

Lainey

Nice feedback, Lainey. Amairis, can you make some revision1?

Amairis

The performance today was outstanding. Something that was trash became an insturment to share music with the world. Landfill harmonic started out with almost nothing, they became creative and made insturments with anything they could find including recycled materials, garbage and anything else. A connection I made hearing thier story and where they were coming from reminded me of one of the novel study books. The boy who harnessed the wind, because william made a windmill out of the landfill and anything else he could find.

One of the main ideas are if you can put your hopes, passions and heart into something you can accomplish it. What I am trying to say is that if you want to do something put effort into it and don't give up. Just like Landfill harmonic did. They wanted to make music but they didn't have any insturments, so they made them and never gave up thier hopes and dreams.

The second main idea I think is that you can comuinticate through music. As the group said during the performance was that we might not speak the same language but we speak through music. Music has a special connection with every one which is one of the best things in life.

For me, this performance was very impressive, inspiring and moving. For myself being someone who loves music, it made me so happy to see that there are programs like these that help children be able to get to experience the gift and joy of music. That they came all the way from Paraguay just to show us their music. To see people with such passion, was truly amazing.

I think that one of the main messages of this performance is that music is a strong and beautiful thing that can literally connect two different worlds. It didn't matter where we came from, or what language we spoke, they came and performed and we got to enjoy it. Music is something that can bring two separate worlds together.

A second point that I think they talked about, was that love is the greatest gift. Just a hug or kiss on the cheek can bring so much joy and love. It doesn't have to be anything fancy... just a simple hug shows that someone cares about you. (If you are still reading, round of applauds for you) A sign of affection is more meaningful than any gift that you could purchase at a store. You know what they say, "You can't buy happiness." Sure you could buy something to make someone happy, but the true love and joy comes from the heart.

I agree! It's amazing that we can bridge so many gaps with music. Across the world, music is the universal language. There might be religion, countries, and race in the way, but at the end of each day, we are all humans.

Miikka

This presentation that Landfill Harmonic put on for us today was very inspiring and it was touching. One of them messages that I think they are trying to spread is even though you may not have what it takes to achieve something, doesn't mean that you shouldn't try. You may figure out that you are able to do it and maybe you could become a professional. Another thing that I think they are trying to spread is something the director said. Music is the universal language. We can use it to communicate with each other, and that is one way to create a bond between two different "worlds", which is what we want the world to be like: One BIG family.

Watching the performance was breath taking. After hearing that these kids could play the violin as good as anyone with junk they found in a huge junk yard I just needed to see this.

I first of all learned how thin my mind and imagination was. I could never think that you could use stuff such as a pizza hold/plate and make it into something so beautiful such as a violin. The second thing I learned was how lucky I was that I didn't live there where you don't have that much choice and that even holding a instrument was so precious. I'm lucky that I can afford an instrument without any worry of money. Another important thing I leaned was that music is a universal language, which means that everyone can speak it even though you don't know each other or come from the same place. So it is very important to learn music to not only enjoy it but to also be able to talk to one another. When I heard this I made a connection, people can communicate with each other but also in math. So in all don't take simple things for granted.

Lainey
6/11/2018 05:55:32 pm

Right on, Jordan. Isn’t it cool how creative you can be with no longer used materials?

Jordan

I loved the performance and was very surprised when the first played because I really was amazed about who does that instrument made from garbage marking such a close like the real instrument. This was also inspiring because of how they came up from nothing and now there performing world wide (I think) . Its really amazing to see something like that

Mr Fisher

Can you believe that you can make such beautiful music with junk?

veer
6/11/2018 06:33:46 pm

thats the thing. who knew that you can make instruments that sound the same if not better than the real thing and on top of that you need that creativity to even think of make something like that

The Landfill Harmonic performance and presentation was I think extremely inspiring. It told us some important messages and also the big idea which I think are the following. Just because you come from a poor family doesn't mean you don't have any talent. If you can't afford or don't have the materials needed to do or make something instead of just sitting there improvise with what you have. And that all humans have something in common, music in this case.
Just because your poor, your a certain race or gender doesn't mean you can't accomplish something in life. You just have to have the dedication, energy and courage to make it happen. The second big idea and message is I think extremely obvious but even more important. Instead of complaining about the stuff you don't have do the best you can with what you have and you might be surprised with the outcome. The third big idea is maybe the most important. The people their were basically trying to teach us that music was a common language of the people of Earth. That no matter what religion culture or country you're from every person knows some form of music. That we all have something in common, whether it's what we like to wear, to do, to listen to play we all have common ground.

Mr Fisher
6/11/2018 06:32:09 pm

Great paragraph, Aaron. I think you are right on with the main ideas!

also what i learned is that you dont need luxury to make something happend. all you really need to do is put your mind to what you want to do. thees people didnt have anything to start with and now look at them.they wanted music and they got so much more! they became someone from being people who we didnt even know existed! the message is that the best gift you can give someone is a hug!

Amairis

I agree that we don't need luxury to make something happen. You can make anything and do what ever, all you need to do is to put your heart and passion into it and you can accomplish it.

The performance put on by Landfill Harmonic was very inspiring and touching. Aside from showing us music, they also conveyed to us some key ideas and life lessons, one of them being that, we, as humans, can do anything with willpower and imagination. Landfill Harmonic couldn't have existed without these two simple things. The maestro imagined a place where people, of all gender, race, and wealth, could all learn the one language we live with: music. One of the men who lived in Paraguay's biggest landfill decided to create what would be used by several children in their quest for magic - instruments. From unwanted materials such as old metal and wood parts came a violin that the first kids could use in their path through music. It really comes to show how humans can devise creations out of the simplest things, aided greatly by the two things they were born with: ingenuity and the sheer will to do it.
You don't money, experience, or special people to play music. All you need to to summon your will, and along the way your creativity. The people in the landfill were fighting to survive. Each day for them was a massive struggle. Yet, with no background knowledge of the sort, they were able to create a beautiful instrument. Humans were gifted with the power to invent and do early on. It's what brought us so far through time, and what we continue to do, across the world each day.
The big idea, simply put, is that humans have creativity and will, and we can all use it, around the world, each and every one of us.

Veer

I think the main idea is that anything is pretty much possible, if you try hard enough and put your best into it. Every single one of the students who learned how to play instruments when none of them even have enough money to get an education. The thing that fascinates me is that they made all their instruments green-free. Like the violins, which was made from keys, forks and wood. Like I said, when you put your mind to it, anything is possible!

Roshin
6/11/2018 09:06:52 pm

When we watched the video on YouTube about this group there was a really clear message. These people playing from these instruments were not made as we make them. They used scrap parts to make these instructions and this is why it was truly inspirational. They used forks, spoons, tin cans and other materials. This shows nothing is impossible as long as you try. They believed intemsleves and when they got the chance to play these instruments they didn’t take it for granted. These instruments changed their lives for the better.

Kaya
6/11/2018 09:12:54 pm

After their performance, (don’t remember their names!!) talked about how music is a universal language and it connects people. For some reason this made me think about this; I thought that this presentation shows that money can’t buy happiness. These kids used basically worthless parts, put them together and created priceless treasures. The smiles on their faces were genuine even thought they weren’t using traditional instruments. Someone with a $1000 violin might not have been so excited to play as those girls in the orchestra. So I think this also shows us that we need to be grateful if the opportunities we’ve been given and how lucky some of us are to have experienced learning an instrument.

Emily
6/11/2018 09:53:33 pm

I thought that the performance put on by Landfill Harmonic was very entertaining and fun, with an important idea behind it.

Sometimes, we get so used to just being able to easily communicate with those around us, that we forget that there are others who don't speak English at all. How can we communicate with them then?

That's a point that the group from Paraguay had. "We don't all speak the same language, but we are connected through music." This is absolutely true. Music is used to connect people from all over the world.

Another point I thought came up was that sometimes we take what we have for granted. I'm sure a lot of us have taken piano lessons before, and how badly we hated them. We disliked being forced to take lessons, but look at these kids. They took an opportunity and it became their life. It really shows the difference between what we have and consider important compared to kids in a developing country.

Andrew
6/12/2018 08:58:14 am

In my opinion the main idea in the landfill harmonics was that music is something everyone has in common. They say that music is the language that everyone could speak. At the end they say that music is the language for everyone and that no matter where you are from, music will always be something you can do.
