Today, students learned more about measurement and dove deep into chemistry by starting their pH lab on acids and bases. They are using pH indicator solution made from red cabbage to find the relative strength of different acids and bases.  We also started our novel approach book clubs for their second novels and there were many rich conversations going on around the big idea of their novels.  The students are entering the ownership phase and the learning that is happening is a beautiful thing!
IMPORTANT:
1.) SCIENCE: Test moved to Monday.
2.) DIVISION 2: If you did not complete your 'K - KNOW' and your 'W - Wondering' section of your Belief Systems KWL Chart, you must have at least 1 questions written down in the W column for tomorrow. I have posted all the videos we watched below.

LEARNING/PLANNER:
1.) READING: Continue keeping up with your Novel Approach readings and stay accountable to your group.

2.) NOVEL APPROACH:

3.) MATH: #17-22

4.) SOCIALS: Started beliefs system inquiry (see video link on Hr. Hong's Class (click)

5.) POST A RESPONSE:
  • We have been talking a lot about the learning process this year. Our hope is that you are at the 'OWNERSHIP' phase now or are almost there.  Please explain if you feel you are at the ownership phase and explain why or why not.
  • LEARNING INTENTION: I can explain if I am at the 'OWNERSHIP' phase of my learning.
    SUCCESS CRITERIA:
          1.) PARAGRAPH FORMAT: intro/body/conclusion
2.) GIVENS: Spelling, capitals, sentence structure, grammar, and punctuation.
3.) BODY: Includes at least 2 supporting points and examples.
4.) SELF-ASSESSMENT: Give one sentence as a reply to your original paragraph stating if you
met the criteria or if you need to improve.

5.) PEER-ASSESSMENT: Give at least one other student feedback to improve.
6.) REVISION: Post your revised/improved version. This does not mean change a couple words or
simply copy and pasting your original again.

What does ownership mean? It means that you have done the other five things on the big 6 learning principles, and that you are owning your learning. I think I might have reached the ownership stage.. Ownership means that you have owned your learning and that you can learn on your own. Sometimes when something is new to me, I just study it a lot of times so I know the subject better. Also, if I make mistakes, I know how to fix them because I know the concept well so I can do better next time. Ownership is what you need for school, and maybe other aspects of life.

Feedback: check the givens. You added to periods and you should add ‘six’ instead of ‘6’.

To my opinion, I say I’m at he the ownership phase of the inquiry project. I’m positive.

One reason why is because I know how to come up with appropriate sub-questions to support my big question. Also, I know how to figure out if information is reliable or not, using the C.R.A.P. test. Lastly, I can evaluate my data into an organizer and make my learning statements. These are very important things that you should know in order for you to reach the ownership phase.

I need to add an example.

[REVISED]

I’m positive I reached the ownership phase by now.

One reason is because I know how to find sub-questions after finding my big question. An example is when I did the second unit and I found plenty of appropriate sub-questions that I got approved by Ms. Altman.

Another reason is because I know how to determine if information is reliable or not using the crap test. Haha. Like when I found a website during the second unit of inquiry project and I found out—it was reliable! Yaaaaay.

In the end, I think I’m already in the ownership phase by now.

What is ownership? Ownership is the ability to hold yourself accountable for your responsibilities. For the past year our class has been working to reach the ownership phase of learning.
I believe that I have reached the ownership level. I believe this because I hold myself accountable for work that I must complete, so I make a plan to get all my work completed on time. Another example of how I’ve reached ownership are the times that when I wasn’t able to complete my work, i took responsibility and told Mr Fisher that I needed an extension.
It’s important for everyone to take responsibility of their actions, and hold themselves accountable for their learning.

At the beginning of the school year, Mr. Fisher stated, “I want all of you to be able to take full responsibility of your learning by the end of the school year.” Well, today, most of us have already reached that goal. This responsibility is called ownership, and as Mr. Fisher once said, “will guide you to success.” Today I will explain to you that I have reached the ownership phase. Let’s get started!

I believe that I have reached the ownership phase. Firstly, this is because I can keep track of my homework and complete it on time while trying my hardest. For example, I check the class website everyday to remind myself of my homework, and I often finish the assignment on the day it was assigned so that I wouldn’t have to worry about it on the following days. Also, I have reached the ownership phase because I try hard to overcome daily challenges and I don’t give up. To illustrate, when I am having trouble, I can monitor my comprehension by searching online, asking my friends and my parents, even checking a dictionary. Therefore, I have reached the ownership phase.

When I first learned about the ownership phase, I was very far from it. But now, after months of experience and perseverance, I have achieved my goal. We all have. Therefore, I have reached the ownership phase.

Ownership. By the oxford dictionary means, the act, state, or right of possessing something. And in this case the right of possessing responsibility.
I believe that I am at the state of ownership. My proof, is that if I complete all my work. Nowadays, compared to the beginning of the school year, I have all my work finished all the time. Another piece of evidence is how I meet success criteria almost all the time. For example, I studied for the science test and made sure I asked questions on what I didn’t know meant.
Overall, I think I’m pretty close to ownership, if not already owning it. Don’t you think?

Throughout this school year, we've talked a lot about owning our learning, and everything we do in class is helping us get to that. Today, after all my hard work this year, I think I am finally at the ownership phase of my learning.

Ownership doesn't just happen in one night - it takes a while, and you'll need to learn many different things to be at that phase of your learning, such as integrity, good work habits, and cooperation with others. I know that I am already at the ownership phase of my learning because I finish almost all of my assignments on time. I prioritize my time to make sure that I finish everything, and when I'm very busy, I will let Mr. Fisher know and try my best to finish the next day. This shows good work habits and integrity. However, sometimes I still need to work on this a bit - for example, I missed this PAR and one from a few days ago because I forgot to check the class website. I think I can definitely improve on this and get to the full ownership phase by the end of this school year.

That's not the only way to own your learning. Ownership means to be responsible and take initiative of your learning, but is it just your learning? Another huge part of ownership is supporting the learning of others. A great time to support the learning is when you're doing a group project, or when someone doesn't understand something and you can help them. I do this a lot - for example, when my friends ask me for help during math, I always help them as much as I can, until eventually, they understand and are able to do it themselves. Another example is our most recent book club in novel approach. Together, we discussed how to divide the work load between the 11 days we had to work on it, and quickly settled on a plan.

Ownership is a very important concept to learn in your life. It may seem hard at first, but keep working at it - you'll get there in the end! And when you become independent and responsible, you'll know that every minute of your hard work was worth it.

Leah

How I do it is that I just email it. I mean that’s what I did for the cooking show.
