After skating in the morning we spend a lot of the day completing our mosaic tile mirrors. Students worked very hard to clean up and polish their  newly grouted tile art. Their perseverance  and attention to detail paid off in the end as you can clearly see. Outstanding work division 1. Near the end of the day we started a short Christmas story.

IMPORTANT: Churchill High School Applications are not due until January. Only studnets who live in the area can apply using the application that was handed out. All studnets out of the catchment area much fill out  a cross boundary application if they want to attend Churchill.

Natural selection is the process of animals have adaptation to the environment and having the next generation of their offspring inherit their same abilities leading them to survive longer.

Think about a spider, most spiders can use silk to create sticky webs and those help different kind of spiders survive In different environments. Their is spiral webs and funnel webs and many different variations of webs spiders use to survive in their environment. However when they have offspring the abilities the parents have are inherited by the child. The child has to use whatever abilities where passed down from the last generation to survive and go through the same process which will infinitely repeat over and over again.

Natural selection is the process of organisms being adapted to their environment and habitat tend to survive and have their offspring.

For example, some giraffes have very long necks but few of them have shorter necks. Because giraffes eat the leaves and berries and fruit on the trees so the shorter giraffes would not get any or enough food to eat. Therefore, they have to get taller so that they can get food on the trees. After a couple of generations, all the giraffes would have long enough necks to reach the trees.

Natural selection is a miraculous thing in nature to help a species of animals thrive in the future.

This is how it works. So basically an animal has some babies, which are all different in ways. So basically the best baby, or the best ones will survive. By that I mean the babies that are most best to survive in the environment they live in, like camouflage, sharp teeth if it is a carnivore, and best suit for the weather etc. Then that baby will grow up, and make babies of it's own, which are all like it. Then the best of it's babies will go on and on and on, so only good kinds of this species will thrive, that means this species won't go extinct. What will happen to the bad babies? So basically, if they can't camouflage, for example, predators will eat them and kill them. If they are carnivores, and don't have sharp teeth or claws, they can't hunt and will starve to death. Well, if you are a flying bird species and you can't fly, well the bird is going to be dead easily. So basically only the good babies will survive enough to make babies and that will keep going on.

Here's and example. for instance a duck goes in a flash flood and sails across the world (hoping it survives) and ends up on the other side of the world. ducks here will make babies so they have goo flippers, and good at catching fish. Then if the duck here doesn't have the beak for catching fish, then it won't survive. All the way across the world, lets take a random place, like Africa. Well, there is barely any water in the middle of the desert, so how do ducks survive? When this duck makes babies (if it's still capable of), lets just say there are three. One that is greenish, and has a good beak for catching fish, and flippers well. The second has a orange and yellow colour, with feet good for walking on sand and rocks, and a mouth which can eat very sharp stuff without hurting itself, and keen eyes. The last one is purple, orange, and blue with very small feet and wings. It has no beak, but a small muzzle with no teeth. It has very big eyes. So basically the first duck is very suitable for a normal duck life, so it can eat fish in the water. There is a problem. There is no pond nearby, no fish. The ducks feet aren't suitable for the hard rocks and sand, so these feet will die. The duck won't live because of hunger. The third duck is very weird, small feet and wings will not work. Its eyes are a bit useful, for the camouflaged creatures in the sand, but because of it's other qualities, it still won't survive. The second duck will survive, though. It can camouflage in the desert because of its colors, also with its good feet it can travel around, and also eat the cactuses because it's mouth let's it eat sharp stuff. A while later, the other two ducks die, but this ones survives and starts the new thriving species: Desert duck.

To conclude, natural selection is a very special way to make species survive. Because of it, there are still many animals today. Speaking of desert ducks, here's a fun fact: did you know camels actually can eat cactuses because of the way their mouth is like, which makes them not get affected by the sharp needles.

Natural selection is the process where organisms that are best suited to their environment survive and pass on their genetic traits in increasing number to successive generations. At the same time, organisms that are less adapted fail to survive or multiply at a lower rate, and tend to be eliminated from the ecosystem.

Natural selection occurs when some of those traits help some individuals survive and reproduce more than others. That causes their genes to become more common in the population over time, and it's the way species evolve to adapt to changes in their environment.

Giraffes and many other known species adapted to their environments through genetic changes to their skeletons. This form of natural selection meant that members of the population who didn't develop and present these skeletal changes died out. For example, giraffes developed long necks to reach food sources higher up in trees, so members of the giraffe population who didn't develop a long neck died out.

natural selection is the differential survival and reproduction of individuals due to differences in species. It is a key mechanism of evolution, the change in the heritable traits characteristic of a population over generations. natural selection is very important

Natural selection is the differential survival and reproduction of individuals due to differences in phenotype. It is a key mechanism of evolution, the change in the heritable traits characteristic of a population over generations

Example:

Some example include the deer mouse, the peppered moth, and the peacock. Bacteria are a common research subject when studying evolution and adaptation because some colonies of bacteria can produce several generations in one day, letting researchers see a "fast forward" version of evolution and natural selection.

I learned some new words doing this (:

What is natural selection? Well natural selections is a process of evolution all species has gone through. Selecting the best attributes of each generation that best helps them survive and passing it on. The types of attributes that they pass on could differ if you live in different biomes.
One example of natural selection is humans. During a time only a few apes walked on 2 feet. These apes were the apes that survived, while the most apes who didn’t walk on 2 feet died out. This is a process of natural selection.
There are many other example in humans too, when even neanderthals were stronger and smarter then homo sapiens they didn’t survive because of there lack of communities. This attribute of staying in large groups helped us survive.

Natural selection is when an organism gives birth to their offspring or when an organism has asexual reproduction and inherits their genes, traits and abilities. The offspring who's genes, traits and abilities that are most fitting in their environment are most likely to survive and when they produce their offspring, the ones that are most suitable to the environment will survive and produce their offspring and the cycle goes on and on. Those who can't survive will die off.

For example, lizards with longer legs would be able to reach food and avoid floods by using their longer legs to climb while lizards with shorter legs would have a harder time and might die off at one point.

Natural Selection is a process in which animals best adapted to their environment survive and have more offspring. Let me explain it a bit better for you, say there are two animals living in an area. If one animal has more tools and supplies to best fit their needs in order to survive, they will be able to have more offspring. Here's the tricky part: Parents pass traits to their children (inheritance). Their children then become parents and give the same traits to their children. Because of this, a whole new species can evolve.
I will give you another example if that one didn't make sense:
NEANDERTHALS AND HOMO SAPIENS
1. Neanderthals and Homo Sapiens cross paths and have some rivalry.
2. Neanderthals like to hunt up close with spears that they hold, Homo Sapiens hunt from farther away.
3. Neanderthals often die because of the dangers of hunting up close.
4. Homo Sapiens develop new, inventive tools that are useful and has lots of power.
5. Neanderthals die out because of the lack in inventing tools.
As you can see, the Neanderthals were more powerful than Homo Sapiens were but, Homo Sapiens were smart and found new tactics and tools to hunt.

Natural selection is basically evolution. The animal adapts to its environment and changes so it can survive in its area. They have these adaptations to help them survive in their environment, such as hunting and finding shelter. For example, a polar bear has white fur to help blend in with the snow.

These traits and characteristics are passed down to their babies through a process called inheritance. This means they can survive better and they can pass these traits down to their offspring.

Natural Selection

Do you know what natural selection is? It is a sad thing but it is what helps control our world animal population.

Natural selection is survival of the fittest. It basically means the smartest and strongest (big brains) survive and the weakest eventually die out and they leave the food chain. Then if they move they have to adapt or else those animals also die out. When they leave the food chain, the predators have to find something else to eat.

An example is the dodo bird. The dodo birds couldn’t figure out how to stay alive and live so they went extinct because they couldn’t survive on their own.

In conclusion, natural selection is very sad but is necessary so that the world doesn’t overpopulate even more and so that we don’t run out of resources because we are the top of the food chain which also means we are able to survive because of natural selection.

Natural selection is organisms adapting to their environment and produce more offspring.

For example polar bears and grizzly bears. Grizzly bears and Polar bears both are traits and genes that will make the best ones continue life. From evolution to evolution to evolution and so on.

(heads up i used a lot of info that isn't mentioned in the paragraph)

Natural Selection is when a type of organism develops a certain thing because of genetic mutation which is random. Mostly, the mutation is neither harmful nor beneficial but sometimes, very rarely, the mutation could either be super harmful and kill you or be super beneficial. For example, maybe a group of bacteria were put in a petri dish. They had many time to grow and reproduce and eventually they took over. Then a toxic anti-biotic was inserted and killed everyone of them. All except one, who just so happened to have the ability to not die to that specific anti-biotic. And since bacteria can reproduce asexually, that one bacteria takes over and when the same ant-biotic is put in the dish, it affects none of them.

Natural selection is choose the right environment for survival and reproduction. Natural selection helps animals live longer. Natural selection is very important.
Example: Penguins live in the South Pole, the South Pole is very cold. Penguins can survive in very cold places. But penguins can’t survive in hot places, if the temperature is too hot, they may not survive.

Natural selection is the process where organisms, that have been adapted to a specific environment, survive and pass down their traits to their offsprings. The other organisms that do not have their ways to survive will eventually die out.

Natural selection happens when some of those traits help organisms reproduce more which will make their type of species to become more popular. This could eventually lead to that group of species taking over that environment.

Let's say for example homo sapiens. The homo sapiens were not as strong and powerful as the neanderthals. The neanderthals could easily kill all the homo sapiens if they wanted but, they were not as smart as the homo sapiens. One of the main reasons why the neanderthals died out was because they did close-range hunting which is dangerous. But the homo sapiens were smart. They developed new tools like the spear-thrower which helped them throw their spears far. They kept on developing and improving tools that got them to this success while the Neanderthals died out.

So to conclude this paragraph, natural selection is a very unique way to reproduce and survive. Without this, many animals would not live till now.

Natural selection is an amazing thing. It pretty much means that only the animals with certain features that adapt to the climate/predators will survive. And when you think about it, it’s great, cause the world is working on its own to keep species up and running. Often humans never have to step in and help species toward the right path, cause natural selections doing the job for us.

And example of natural selection occurring is in this place (I forgot the location but I think I remember that it might be in or near Hawaii) where a certain prey hunted grass hoppers by hearing their sound, flying to the sound, and hunting the grass hopper. But, something occurred. Grass hoppers that didn’t make noises appeared, and started to repopulate them self’s. And eventually. This place was full of silent grasshoppers.

natural selection is a evoloution is the speices pass on generation and adapet to their environment that they are living in. You can also say that natrural selection is a process where organisms with higher skiils survive and pass their skills on in there generation and adapet to the environment. For example, if there is a habitat with 2 speices one is blue, and red bugs, the brid like to eat the blue bug, so very soon there will be less blue bug and more red bug. in a short a mont of time the red bugs are going to reproduce it self and make a lot more of them, the blue will just be gone from the environment.

Natural selection is the process of organisms developing abilities to adapt to their environment in order to survive. Those favourable traits will be inherited to offspring.

For example early humans were one of the weakest animals on earth for generation. As many centuries passed, they slowly adapted to many different types of environment and as a result they became stronger and smarter. They were able to adapt by getting rid of most of their hair to regulate their body temperature by sweating. They also developed bigger brains which allowed them to communicate more effectively in order to defeat enemies as a large group.

Like this many organisms are able to survive through natural selection even if they are relatively weak. This shows how important natural selection is and without it most organisms wouldn't have been able to survive.

Natural election is a cycle or process in which organisms develop abilities to adapt to their home or environment to survive.

For example; if there is a group of bumblebees close to mosquitoes, bumblebees make more noise. Natural selection is a very important source for weak creatures to rely on. if there was no natural selection, many more creatures would be dead.

So if a human being is annoyed at what is buzzing around their head the bumblebee will most likely get killed and that would give the mosquitos a chance to populate.
there was also mosquitos where the bumblebees were it is just that the human did not hear the mosquitos.

to conclude, the main point is that the weaker organism has a chance to survive with natural selection.

The process where organisms that have adapted to a specific environment, survive in that environment and pass down their traits to their young is called Natural Selection. The other organisms that have not yet adapted will eventually die out.

Natural selection happens when some of the special traits and abilities that the adapted animal has obtained helps them give more offspring and eventually, create a larger population of their own kind. When this happens, the larger of the populations might take over the environment while the rest of the animals would have to flee.

For example, some people may be allergic to something and are lactose and sugar intolerance. While others have developed an ability to block out them. Many people in our society do not have an allergy.

Overall, natural selection is a clever way to reproduce and survive. Animals from all around the globe would suffer without it. It helps them survive and thrive in this world.

Natural selection is the process in which an organism adapts to a specific environment and passes its genes down to its offspring. The other organisms who don’t adapt will eventually die out.

An example is say there are some people allergic to peanuts or like dairy while there are some people who are able to tolerate that stuff.

Overall I think natural selection is a cool and creative way to survive and adapt to the environment.
