Today Div. 2 studnets completed a reading assessment to see what reading strategies they were familiar with. Many students are using some of the strategies, but they are not aware of it. We will be learning and practicing using the strategies throughout this term so students will be able to identify when and where they are using them. This way studnets will be able to explain their thinking and use these strategies in their writing and in group discussions. 
Reminders:

1.) NAME TAGS: Due tomorrow

2.) CAREER EDUCATION: Test on all classmates names tomorrow

3.) MATH: Three pages of review questions due tomorrow

4.) READING ASSESSMENT: Should be complete and already handed in 

5.) WORD WORK: Spelling and meaning test tomorrow

6.) POST A RESPONSE:

  • To help is studying for you first WORD WORK test, write a sentence using each of the 16 words form Unit 1
LEARNING INTENTION: I can write sentences using my word work words

SUCCESS CRITERIA:
  • Include 16 sentences (One for each word)
  • Each sentence should show you understand the meaning of the word 
  • Word work words will be written in all CAPITALS so they are easily identifiable
  • All sentences start with a capital letter and end with period
**Assess your work against the success criteria before posting it!

Word Work Unit 1
1.Pandemic-To help us stay safe from this PANDEMIC we should follow all the health and safety rules.
2.Symptom-SYMPTOMS of the coronavirus are fever,dry cough and fatigue (tiredness)
3.Hygiene-If you have good HYGIENE you will stay safe and healthy.
4.Chronic- My knee feels CHRONIC pain after I injured myself.
5.Conjunctivitis- I got CONJUNCTIVITIS (pink eye) by a contagious virus.
6.Fatigue-If you experience extreme FATIGUE then, you might have Covid-19.
7.Nausea- The most common symptom to NAUSEA is vomiting.
8.Cohort- The group leader and her COHORTS won 1st place at the spelling bee.
9. Coronavirus- Covid-19 is short for CORONAVIRUS.
10.Epidemic- The Coronavius EPIDEMIC
11.Outbreak- The OUTBREAK of the coronavirus.
12.Transmission- The TRANSMISSION of the computer virus.
13. Asymptomatic- She took a Covid-19 test and the result is ASYMPTOMATIC
14. Vaccine- I hope the VACCINE for the coronavirus can cure the virus fast.

Hi Amrita,

Your sentences are great. They show your understanding of these words. I also like how you re-typed #16. It shows that you self-edited your work.

One thing though.... #10, 11, and 12 are not complete sentences. Maybe finish them them by adding verbs and other words.

Nice sentences! One thing to keep in mind is to write full sentences, not just fragments, for example,
10.Epidemic- The Coronavius EPIDEMIC
11.Outbreak- The OUTBREAK of the coronavirus.
12.Transmission- The TRANSMISSION of the computer virus.

This PANDEMIC is not over yet.
A symptom of the virus is a fever.
We need to practice good hygiene.
I had a CHRONIC yawn once.
Having CONJUNCTIVITIS normally doesn’t affect you.
Sometimes I have a lot of FATIGUE when doing work.
I dislike feeling NAUSEA.
I’m in a pretty big COHORT this year.
The CORONAVIRUS can kill the population.
A while ago there was an EPIDEMIC.
There’s a lot of OUTBREAKS.
The TRANSMISISON of the virus is mostly because of touching and not social distancing.
There’s a lot of ASYMPTOMATIC people out there.
We’re developing a VACCINE for COVID-19.
I really enjoy QUARANTINE.
The hospitals use VENTILATORS to help save people.
