Today students worked hard on completing the culminating math activity on decimals and on completing their winter scene pastel arts project.  We also had an extra PE period where we worked specifically on improving our shooting technique in basketball. We learned that people need to practice skills correctly an in order to master them and that getting specific FEEDBACK and applying it right away is very important. By practicing shooting a basketball with 1 hand instead of two and allaying FEEDBACK we saw many student improve very quickly. NBA & WNBA watch out!
1) MATH: Chapter task of organizing the team party due tomorrow am

2) ART: Draft 1 due tomorrow by 3 pm

3) MATH TEST: Friday (estimating and calculating with all 4 operations using decimals)

4) WORD WORK TEST: Monday

something about the math that important is that i say team work because if you work as a team you need to cooperate and also not get distracted easily for example Abdul and i went to this fast food website and looked at the prices for a McDonald meals or when we buy the souvenirs we found this random Oscar trophy than we bought our selves something the thing we bought was minecraft it was 25 dollars each so we ended us having 13 dollars left

Skills I used on the paper:


Reading: Reading and understanding what the question asks us.

Writing: Answering math problems and solving questions to calculate money.

Listening: Listening to information and instructions.

Knowing which website to use: checking if the website is safe and accurate to check what stuff to buy.

Speaking: Asking people for feedback and asking questions to thoroughly understand what I'm supposed to do.

Concentrating: Focusing on my work and not get distracted to complete my task on time.

Math: Complete equations and do calculations to get an answer for a question.

What my partner (William) and I did for the math:

We obviously read the instructions carefully and double checked so we didn't make any miscalculations. We did have a few disagreements proving the calculations were right and that we were doing it the right way. Another thing we did was go onto McDonald's website and bought a bunch of food, deserts and drinks. Added up the total prices and then added up the total prices for the total prices and something like $36.1 dollars. We already spent $30 bucks for the coaches so we had about $91.4 dollars left after spending money for the coaches and main courses for food.

Once we finished all that we then bought some souvenirs for the coaches. We got them these Oscar trophies. We still had $63.4 bucks left so we bought minecraft for each of us for $50 together. We ended up having $13.4 left and didn't spend that.

i used my BK to allow myself to know what websites i should use to find food/souvenirs.
i also used my taste (in a way) to see what i wanted to purchase from IKEA, and make sure to choose only the things that taste good.


with the money that i had leftover i gave it to the basketball team to purchase new equipment for the team.

Finding shopping websites that were not a blackmarket: I searched for trustable websites and famous food restaurants or stores, I also used a website for a mall that had a lot of different stores. (Orchard Park- Colin told me about this)

Estimating: I estimated around how much each product would be for a specific amount of people ss that I wouldn't get over the budget.

Self Regulating: Without doing this I wouldn't be finished so that kind of explains why I'm finished.

Reading: I slowed down and read out loud with my partner Ariel so I could understand it better without having to reread it over and over again.

Speaking: My partner and I both contributed ideas to help plan the party.

Knowing how to use a calculator: We calculated first and then checked our answers to make sure we had the correct answers.

Prices: We stayed within budget, didn't go over budget and had $6.00 left.

Math: We multiplied, added and subtracted, we didn't divide as much as we multiplied, added and subtracted.

READING: Reading helped me understand all the instructions and what the numbers we needed to know were.

SPEAKING: Speaking helped me be able to talk to my teacher to ask for help and to be able to talk to my partner

KNOWING HOW TO USE A CALCULATOR: Knowing how to use a calculator helped me because then I could check to see if my answers were right to make sure I have the right amount so that I do not go over the budget.

KNOWING WHICH PLACES HAD CHEAP BUT STILL GOOD QUALITY THINGS: Knowing which places had cheap but still good quality things helped me because the meals that I chose were good but were also expensive so I needed to find places that sold the things for cheap prices.

WRITING: Writing helped because then I could calculate the answers by writing it down and also so that I don’t forget my ideas.

LISTENING: Listening helped because then I could listen to the instructions even though I still got a bit confused I asked for some help and then I was able to continue my work.

ESTIMATING: Estimating helped me because then I could figure out how much it would be about to make sure I do not go over the budget.

CREATIVITY: Creativity helped me because then I could make meals and have fun.

MATH SKILLS: Math skills helped me calculated how much I could buy with the money that I had.

Skills I used
Finding items without decimal points in value, as I found superstore was a great place for that. This used searching skills I guess as I needed knowledge of how to find things to do it.

Reading skills as to do this party planning math I had to read it and understand it to actually do the problem

Writing skill I had to writing words to answer questions.

Calculation skill I needed to know how to add, multiply and subtract.

Common sense if I spent 100$ for a grand steak would I have enough money to buy everything else (the answer is no)
So I didn't buy something that would be more then 15% of the budget.

I used many skills to complete the math task that we were given. Below are all of the ones that I used:

Reading: This allowed me to understand all the instructions easily and what numbers they had initially given us to do our math.

Speaking: This gave me an opportunity to me to ask my teacher questions.

Knowing how to use a calculator: This can help me double check my calculations and make sure that they are at a reasonable price.

Multiplication: I used multiplication to help me find out the total budget of the party. I also used it to find the tax of my total amount of money that I spent for the party.

Writing: This gave me a chance to jot down the prices of each item and write my calculations.

Knowing how to find good websites and shops: I know that a lot of stores like Costco serve food for really cheap, so those were the shops that I went to first to find my three meals.

Subtraction: I used this to find how much over or below the budget I was.

Addition: I used this to add the cost of all the things, including the souvenirs and gift cards, that I bought to find my total.

These are the math skills that I used to complete my task and plan my party.
