Sports Day

5/17/2019

Picture
Wow!  What a day, fresh air, being active, team spirit, and SOARing with friends.  The morning was full of 13 fun and active stations, and loads of friendly competition. After lunch Division 1 and 2 showed their school and team spirit with well practiced team cheers.  It was then time for the tug of war between divisions.  This ended with the ultimate tug of war between the grade 7's and the teachers who were assisted by the Grade 9 volunteers from Churchill.  Division 1 & 2 ended the day with a sprint competition.  Enjoy the long rest and we will see you back on Tuesday.

This year sports day was the most fun event I have ever participated so far. My most favourite is ring relay. Its fun for me because running as fast as I can is exciting. Racing with all my friends and peers is always a delight. The mots challenging is the wacky dress up because sometimes you dont even know how to put the stuff on. Also at times you forget to take off something. It was also the least favourite because some people did not play fair. That makes the game not fun anymore. It is also not being a good sport. A good sport is someone who doesnt really care whether they win or lose. The only thing the care about is whether they play fair and have fun. Even though people kind of wanted red team to lose, for me I just mostly stayed out of it and just continued to play. Though at times I did get competitive. Even then sports day was the best and I created so many memories in one day.

This year for sports day, as the grade sevens we had to perform a chant in front of the whole school. Adding points also made it much more competitive between the teams. In a friendly way of course.
I don’t really have a favourite station, however the tug of war is always the best thing to end the day off. It creates lots of excitement, watching and cheering on for which class you think will win is always fun to do.
I’ve been in the school for quite a long time, and I’ve become familiar with sports day. So none of the stations are difficult to me because I’ve done them so many times before.
What it means to be good sport is not telling your peers to shut up, I will not mention any names for the sake of this. However I do admit that everyone (including me of course) was being quite unfair to red team, wanting them to be last. Although we had lots of friendly competition, it sometimes got intense and out of control. To a point where some people’s feelings were hurt by this. Which I don’t think is good. Being good sport is to be supportive, even if you dislike a team or person a lot. All that matters is having fun and staying safe, however sometimes it can get out of hand.

This sports day in particular was really good. I liked the fact that there was a lot of fun activities such as, Relay races, and that race where you had to run around cones and put the ring in the middle. Also i really liked the cheers particularly Red Hot Chili Peppers and Blazing Blue's cheer. My favorite part of the cheer was when Jorge jumped out of no where with a confetti launcher and shot in the air. Also i liked the part when Blue team was doing the group thing for there cheer, and i also liked the air horn. Also i don't think any school gives whole Freezes to everyone in the school for sport day except Laurier. Thank you for all the Sir Winston Churchill Grade 9 volunteers. also a huge thanks TO ALL THE PARENT VOLUNTEERS THAT HELPED MAKE SPORTS DAY SUCH A BLAST!!!!. ALSO BIG THANKS TO ALL THE TEACHERS AND STAFF THAT HELP MAKE LAURIER SUCH A GREAT SCHOOL.

I would say that this year sports day was probably the best one. There was so many games, but my favourite one was the game where we had to run around the cones with rings. (I'm not sure what the name is). I enjoyed that one the most because it challenged us to run really fast. Although at the end, we were so close to coming first, but we missed the cone and became third. We were a little disappointed, but we tried to be good sports. Meaning, even though we lost, we weren't going to get angry or make a fuss about it. Same goes with winning. If we won, we shouldn't bring others down and brag about it. I'm glad that I was able to have fun on my last sports day. I'll definitely miss it!

I just realized that I missed one question, so here’s the revised version:

I would say that this year’s sports day was probably the best one. There were so many games, but my favourite one was the game where we had to run around the cones with rings. (I'm not sure what the name is). I enjoyed that one the most because it challenged us to run really fast. Although at the end, we were so close to coming first. Unfortunately, we missed the cone and became third. We were a little disappointed, but we tried to be good sports. Meaning even though we lost, we weren't going to get angry or make a fuss about it. Same goes with winning. If we won, we shouldn't bring others down and brag about it.

The game I found challenging was the scooter game in the gym. (Again, I’m not sure what it’s called). Throughout the years, that game has always been the hardest for me. I found it hard to move fast. When I tried, I didn’t make any progress. It’s pretty amazing how others are able to do it so quickly. In the end, I’m glad that I was able to have fun on my last sports day. I'll definitely miss it!

At sports day my favorite activity was tug of war. I loved this activity because its a lot of team work and all the people holding the rope must know which strategy to use because every member of the team is crucial for victory. The activity that I found most challenging was the frisbee one because before throwing the wind speed and direction must be calculated so it was mostly luck and I am not very good at throwing frisbee. For me the definition of a good sport is to know how to win as well as knowing how to lose. If you lose you won't start saying that the other winning teams cheated or something. Instead you can congratulate them for their victory. When you win you don't rub it on the losing team's faces. Instead you can tell them that they were good and something like "Good Game".

this year is the last year of sports day for all the grade sevens considering how we each will be attending high school next year. in all the stations my favorite has to be the sponge one because i like how there is a technique to it. the most challenging station to me was probably the last station which was the one where you had to sit on a board with wheels. in my opinion I just don’t think it was as full as the other stations. being a good sport means being active even if you’re not good at that sport. it’s good that you at least tried.

For Sports Day this year my favourite station was the one where you had to race on these boards with wheels around cones, each team member went twice, first to finishes wins. I had a lot of fun with it, and it was also a bit nerve-racking as this year included a "points system" where'd we count points based on our wins. I was scared to lose, even though it doesn't matter. It was fun just rolling around on the boards, and the tension while waiting also added to it.

The most challenging game in my opinion was the frisbee tossing game, it was also my least favourite game as it was very difficult to get a hoop in, and the most points in our class was one. Our team couldn't score any hoops in the first round--not properly anyways. Despite not being the best, we still have to be good sports as it's very important. If you're playing games and you're not being a good sport, you won't have fun. You'd just want to win and not care about anything else, just winning. Being a good sport means that no matter how well you do, you just have fun and not care about placing. Sure, it does matter, but if you win, you don't go around bragging, and if you lose, then just be happy for their victory.

Sports day provided a lot of variety with the games it provided on Thursday. My personal favorite was around the world. It was my favorite because I could see everyone run at their fastest because their team depended on it. My least favorite was the one with the frisbee because the wind was constantly interfering with the frisbee and making go out of bounds. We were only able to get 3 in one round due to this. I think that the definition of good sport is someone who accepts the fact that they are the same as their teammates for good or worse. They accepts failure and don't boast when they win.

This year was a particularly exciting Sports Day, considering that it was the last time we would be participating in it as students :) My personal favorite station was the one where we had to fill up a milk bottle with water and a sponge. I enjoyed that one, moreso then any other, because we had to use strategy for it. Sadly, I only figured the correct way to do it right before it ended, but it was very fun nevertheless! I found the "dress up" station most challenging because it was very difficult to be able to put all the clothing correctly while being under pressure to be faster then everyone else.

In my opinion, being a good sport means several things. It means being fair to others, for instance, not cheating during the activities. It also means congratulating others when they win, and not being "salty", for lack of a more descriptive word. In conclusion, the meaning of being a good sport means being supportive and fair towards other people. I really enjoyed Sports Day this year, and I hope to come back as a helper next year or the next year after that :)

Gratitude:
I am grateful for electricity.
I am grateful for having a computer.
I am grateful for having the VSB provide me with free Office 365.
I am grateful for Victoria Day.

This years sports day was really amazing, Got to say that one of my favorite game was the clothe changing one, it takes some skills and u don't have to run fast at that one, it just depend on how u gonna wear them.
the one i find challenging was the one where have to run and put the circle in the cone, that's where u had to run like real fast. thats why i dont like it

Sports day is one of the funniest school days of the year. My favourite activity was the fill the water jug with coloured water. The reason for this is that we made up a technique and won the game. My least favourite activity was the skateboard activity because I ran over my finger. I also didn’t like this activity because it was hard to move. In my opinion to be a good sport is to not be a soar looser and to be grateful winner, also always have fun. Overall sports day is awesome.

My favourite station was the station where we had to fill the jug with water the fastest. I liked it because I found a strategy to fill the bottle really quickly. My least favourite station was the wacky dressup station. I had do go three times and maybe even a fourth time because we "messed up" so I was a bit embarrassed and annoyed.

To be a good sport, means to not be rude or angry about losing. Overall sportsday was amazing!

this years sports day was such a blast! although i didn't really have a favourite station it was still fun to play all of the games. i think that the station i found most difficult was the one where you had to try to throw a Frisbee inside a hoop. i think that this was very difficult because it is very easy for a gust of wind to blow by and to push the Frisbee away from the hoop. having good sport means to not be upset when you lose or things dont go your way. overall i think that this years sports day was really fun.

My favourite game for sports day this year was the one where we shot the ball into the baskets, then we alternate from person to person. It was very fun and it was scary if we missed a shot, as anyone could easily catch up.

The most challenging was the frisbee toss one, as the wind interfered and also it was just difficult overall, the highest amount of points being only one.

To be a good sport means to not be sad if you lose and to not show off if you win. I really like this year’s sports day, and it’s a good way to end grade 7.

(today I'm lazy so this is going to be a short one)

my favorite station was where we got to take the sponge and put it in the buckets. I liked it because i love playing with water and it as fun to run around. I found the Frisbie section to be the most challenging because it's really easy to lose. the wind was not really strong but frisbees are not meant to be thrown so close but rather far away. but it was still fun. lastly, I think it means to be a good sport when you let your teammates get there fair share, to encourage them, and to have fun.

my favorite station at sports day was that you had to fill a buket
with a sponge, because are team did really well in it and because
it was really fun to do. De on that was the most challenging was
when you had to through a frisbee and get it in a hoop that was really
hard to get is in because the hoop was really small. And it means to be a good sport means that you play good and chear other people on.

Sports Day 2019.

My favourite out of all the stations, was the water sponge milk carton squeezing game. I really liked it because it was fun. The one that was most tricky for me was the soccer dribbling game, as you can see, VIVIAN KICKED THE BALL ALL THE WAY BACK TO THE FENCE AND I HAD TO RUN FOR IT. I think what it means to be a good sport is that, you cheer for your team, and always be in mind that we all have flaws so we should respect and support in what the person struggles with.

In my opinion sports day is very boring, I am just not much of a fan of these games that we play and would rather be doing work. My favourite station was the hockey one because I liked shooting balls with the hockey stick. My least favourite one was the one where we had to run around the cones because I always get tired and I'm generally not a fast runner. I think being nice and encouraging is being a good sport and everyone tries there best to do that.

This year we had an extra exciting sports day as the Grade 7s normally get a lot of privileges that other grades don't get. There were a few minor changes, we added a few games and took away a few games, but overall, Sports day was a crazy day.

My favourite game was definitely the tug-of-war. Why? First, we won it, after a heroic comeback which definitely added the extra layer of happiness. Mostly though, it was the feeling of working together to achieve a goal. The tug of war showed that we really work well together under pressure, and that no matter what we always have a plan. 1-2-pull. 1-2-pull. We also got to watch other classes verse each other in epic games of tug-of-wars. Especially the kindergartens, where they had a match that lasted several minutes.

My least favourite game was tossing the Frisbee into the baskets. Although that might sound really easy, it was practically impossible. The wind kept on catching the Frisbee and floating it high up into the sky so that it would never land into the basket. That was very aggravating and it was hilarious to see other people try funny attempts to get it in, miss, and go into a rage mode. I was kind of sad that they replaced the potato sack race with this.

To be a good sport is to mainly accept your losses and not brag if you win. Green, Yellow, and Blue all targeted Red in every single race, making Red lose in the end, so I hope that Red can get over it and accept that we were just jealous of how good their cheers were. To be a good sport means that you can be competitive, but don't get heated about the game because as everyone says " It's just a game." See how Self Regulation is helpful?"
