10/16/2018

Picture
Learning Intentions:
  • I can create a Jackson Pollock inspired action a platter painting
  • I can express my understanding of the zones of regulation through my art work
  • I can collaborate with others to reach a common goal
After completing our action splatter painting we continued with the Global Read Aloud and learned how to use the prime factorization method to find the GCF and LCM of two numbers. The afternoon was spent collating our Inquiry research and preparing to GO PUBLIC tomorrow!
1) Home Work & Reminders:
  • Math: two questions hand out (review here if you forgot how to find GCF/LCM)
  • Word Work: 50 Word Review Test Thursday! (be sure to review each day!)
  • Inquiry Going public (due tomorrow)
2) Post A Response:
  • Finish Yesterdays PAR! (On yesterday post)
  • Provide some specific feedback to a paragraph
  • Edit/Revise your paragraph based on the feedback you receive!
  • Cut and paste your paragraph. Then make the revisions and post it below the first draft.
  • The feedback should targets some of the criteria for powerful personal writing posted below!
  • Post here: What did you enjoy most about the action splatter painting? why?

golfing

I always like golfing because it helps you get better the next time and it also because there are lots of holes but the good thing is that you don't have to argue to anyone. i also like golf because we can go with our family and that we can eat and drink at the court too.

The most part that I liked about splatter painting was spraying it all around the painting board and that because Jackson Pollock was the one who made and because he was famous about splatting paint on the floor.

this is my edit part of my second paragraph.

As i was in grade 4 i noticed that my dad and mom was playing golf and that it made me play golf because it helps you get better the next time and it also because there are lots of holes. It also made me play golf because you could go with you family but you could also eat and drink at the golf course too.

As with all art, you can express yourselves without being judged too much on canvas. But you are mostly limited to a paintbrush, which really isn't ideal if you're mad and want to let out some steam.

This is why I liked the splatter painting. You aren't limited to just a paintbrush. You can dump the paint all over using the paint bottles themselves, even flinging pieces of paint onto the canvas. There is no need to worry about shape, or design. The finished product may look like madness, but as the old saying goes, "one man's trash is another's treasure."

But what I enjoyed the most was watching paint fly through the air and whip onto the canvas. Who doesn't like the sound of paint moving through the bottle, flying through the air, and dropping onto the canvas?

I enjoyed the art because it was fun and messy. You pick your emotion or how you’re feeling at that moment and show that feeling by using paint. It really helps calm down some people. Over all it was really fun!

This is my edited alpha biography paragraph.

W: When people slap watermelons at grocery stores

As I grew I've become accustom to my parents slapping watermelons. For those who aren't familiar to this, people slap watermelons to 'listen to their sound', to see if they are ripe and bitter. As I grew up I found this more and more annoying, every time I see watermelons I would see many people slapping them and picking through the box of watermelons one by one. I think it's annoying because it's just simply distracting, though I can relate to many wanting the best watermelon out of the bunch, I don't necessary think this is the best way to do so.

I was curious so I wanted to learn and look up answers, some might call this inquiring. As I was scouring around the internet I came across this website that said the slapping or thumping a watermelon and hearing it's 'sounds' actually work. Which surprised me a lot, the website said there are other ways to tell if a watermelon is ripe or not by color, weight and size. But however though slapping or thumping watermelons can determine if a watermelon is ripe or not by its 'round sound', I still find it annoying. Though it's just my opinion I would prefer if some people would do something else to determine if a watermelon is ripe or not because slapping watermelons can really you an odd look!

I enjoyed the art because as many would say it 'expresses their feelings.' I also enjoyed it because i just simply haven't done painting in a long time and that it was messy.

Kale chips are really good , with all of the flavor combinations it makes a delicious and healthy snack, the onion powder and garlic powder gives them a nice soft flavor and the salt gives a strong flavor so the combination is perfect. Kale Chips make a nice snack to enjoy with family or friends. Making kale chips is very easy, the hardest part is making sure that the kale is as dry as possible because if it isnt ,the kale chips won't dry completely and if they are placed in the oven for more time then they might burn.

I enjoyed splatter painting because it is a fun way to express how you feel in a very fun way! I also liked it because it makes great art work.

The thing I loved the most about the painting was the way people were putting the paint on the canvas. Some people just put drops down while others were violently squirting paint everywhere.

_____The part i loved about action painting was getting an opportunity to splash paint to create an abstract image. while squirting paint, it was satisfying to see the paint fly and land. Watching others squirting paint was also very fun. Some people were using creativity and mood to create an image while other were re-enacting 9-11 with the paint. At the end, our canvases were covered in paint, mostly in the middle. Few people were complaining about the paint not getting onto theirs, but i still think it was very fun.

______The scientific symbol for Pi, was first introduced in Greece, by Archimedes. Pi is a string of numbers that continue infinitely. I started by memorizing the first eight letters of Pi (3.1415926) due to math class back at Burnaby. Then I started memorizing more, competing against my friend. However, after memorizing more than ten letters of Pi, I had only realized that my friend, Kevin Zhang, bypassed fifty letters.Memorizing four letters everyday, I made improvement. Increasingly, i went over one hundred digit of Pi. I stated to perform this in talent shows, and show off my skill. Over time, I forgot some of the digit, making me only up to 76 digits ( I tested myself at 2018-10-15).

The part I enjoyed most about splatter painting was hearing people explain how they were feeling and watching them put the paint onto the canvas. I liked how we put a certain colour according to the type of zone we were in.

I liked the today's art because we got express our selves through not just talking or verbally but by expressing through art in a action.

I enjoyed splattering paint on the canvas because I when I express my feelings, I feel much lighter, as if someone took the burden off of me.
I know how sometimes actions explain better than words, and this is a perfect example. If someone gets really mad, they would whip red paint onto the canvas. If someone is happy, then they lightly drizzle green paint everywhere.

The most enjoyable thing out of our action splatter painting this morning
was that the way we felt could be shown in our painting. That allowed us to paint however we wanted with different tools that could effect our painting in different ways. Being able to do this gave us a wider option on how to choose our variety of colors and how we should express how we felt that morning. I felt like an artist!

Camping

This is a story about the time I went camping and it all went horribly wrong. A couple of years ago I went camping with my girl guide troop. I was ten at the time and thought going to camp in October would fun. We took a long ferry to get to the camp and off the top of the ferry we could see the dark storm clouds coming our way. Once we got to camp, it was pouring rain and cold, our camp leaders said "everything will be fine because were in a cabin and will have heating." From inside the cabin we could hear the rain beating off the roof and the cracking lightening hitting who knows what. When you looked out the windows you could see four foot waves crashing against the shore. Since we had nothing to do outside we told ghost stories inside. We were all freaked out from telling ghost stories and then just our luck the power went out. One of our leaders went out to go ask the owners why the power went out, and apparently one of the trees fell onto one of the main power lines. We had to walk half an hour in the icy cold rain to get to another camp sight that wasn't affected by the power outage so we could cook dinner. Thankfully, the owners were able to call a power line company and the company was able to come and fix the power line. It took the company six hours for them to get to the camp and fix the power line, and I'm just glad that they were able to fix it. After that night at the stormed passed and we were thankfully able to enjoy the rest of the weekend at camp.

I really enjoyed expressing with paint. It isn't something you would do everyday, but it helps get rid of your old zone and replaces it with a more school friendly green zone. As we splattered paint over the canvases, I think that it helped us get rid of the bad zones and put in the best zone of learning.

I like splatter paint because you get to express yourself and you get to let it out (go) instead of having mix feelings or it gets out in a bad way.

What did you enjoy most about the action splatter painting? why?
What I enjoyed the most about the Jackson pollock action painting was that we weren't only limited to paint brushes. We were able to clearly express ourselves and let go of our feelings. I find this kind of art very unique and creative. It was fun and I enjoyed it very much.

my favourite part of the splatter art painting was that you could express your feelings just by paining and that was really cool because i never knew that just squirting a paint bottle everywhere would look so cool.

i really enjoy it because, you can actually express your felling at that time, like me, i was happy that i got a chicken leg for breakfast and not just vegetable juice, and i actually got to splat the paint everywhere i wish we could do more fun activity like this.

I hope you enjoyed taking a look at our party! We had fun and it went pretty smoothly. I was even able to be fully dressed and make-up and hair done BEFORE guests arrived which almost never happens. So, I call that a win!
