I WANT to be KIND!
Digital Citizenship is a topic students need to build background knowledge in.  You do not have background knowledge in this area and it is something that cannot be assumed.  Today, we saw the 'TO THIS DAY' video by Shane Koyczan.  Parents, please take time to check this video out with your child and discuss some of the issues that pop up. We discussed the negative aspects of bullying, social media, and gossiping.  Hopefully today's lesson makes you think a bit more about these issues.
IMPORTANT:
  • Students will be participating in 2 ADST workshops at the Oakridge Mac store on Tues Apr 7 10-11:30 (Obstacle Challenge Coding) and one on Tues Apr 21 10-11:30 (Augmented Reality Coding). We will walk over to the mall as a class.
1.) MA: Complete the shopping worksheet

2.)SC: Mixtures and Solutions Worksheet

3.) POST A RESPONSE:
  • Today, we spent a great deal of time discussing citizenship.
  • One of the key things we learned was we should always be kind to one another.
  • Watch the Kindness Boomerang to get your brains 'PRIMED' or 'WARMED-UP' for today's PAR.
  • In paragraph format, write about the BIG IDEA of the video.
          SUCCESS CRITERIA:
1.) Pay attention to the givens
2.) Paragraph format (intro, supporting sentences, conclusion)
3.) Includes at least 2 examples/supporting sentences with specific evidence from the video.
4.) Includes one personal connection of how you can be more kind to someone in your life or how
you have shown someone kindness recently.
5.) Check to make sure you have included everything in the criteria above.
6.) Give one student feedback on the criteria.
          7.) Edit/revise based on feedback or a self-assessment.

The kindness boomerang is about a guy who helps a boy who fell over. This boy then helps an old lady cross the street, and then it keeps on going. I think the big idea of this is if you do something good, you will get something good. In the video, the man helps the kid, and at the very end, he gets a glass of water from the waiter. Also, this video can tell you that when you help someone, you both will feel good, and the person you helped will also help others. In my home, I am pretty nice to my brother, but I can be less annoying to him by not going to his room that much. Overall, this video is about a man helping people and it shows what being nice can award you with.

The big idea of the video is to always be kind. As hopefully if everyone is kind the kindness will come back to you. The first act of kindness done in the videos was helping the skater get up in the video done by the construction worker and through the domino effect if came back to him because everyone was being kind. This shows that being kind could make the world a better place. This continues on from helping people get across the street, paying for their parking, returning what people dropped, carrying something heavy for someone else, buying food for the homeless, and giving a construction working water. These acts of kindness don't need to be big like buying a house for someone, a small act of kindness will be better then no act. Even something like holding a door for someone is fine, and that's what I did. Hopefully the domino effect I have started will never end and I hope everyone will be kind. In conclusion this video tries to show what kindness can lead to and how it could improve life on earth.

Today we watched a video on digital citizenship which explained how 1 small thing can evolve into a huge thing.

I think the big idea of the video is how much 1 tiny thing can effect someone and the world around them. The kid in the animation thought porkchops and karate chops are the same thing However, the grandma thought that it was funny and okay to let him think that. However when he fell out of the tree and hit his head and people asked him about the bruises he said," my grandma gives me karate chops." He was instantly removed from his house for investigation on abuse. One tiny thing that seemed like a little joke ended up being big and serious.

It also explained how they were bullied basically all through school. However through all their hardships and experiences they learned that they aren't the only ones suffering through these problems. So they tried to help other people.

I have shown kindness to my family recently by behaving around them and not causing trouble.

In conclusion, I think this video is about thinking before you click and how gossiping or posting something could forever effect the person and the world around them for a lifetime.

I think you were supposed to find the big idea for the video on the website.

A boy was riding his skate board and he fell but a construction worker helped him up and the kindness kept spreading through 1 person to another.

As the boy got up and left he helped someone out and the person who he helped, helped another person out. So the kindness chain continues. This chain was started as one small thing but it lead to many other things.

In conclusion, I think the big idea of the video is how being kind can not only help you and the person you helped but the entire world around, as it can act as a domino effect. Being kind can lead to this boomerang of kindness like if I decided to ask someone if they were okay when they fell and they left and saw someone drop their phone they might pick it up and bring it back.

It all started with a construction worker helping a boy who fell, and so on, the kindness boomerang continued.

The construction worker helped a boy who fell off his skateboard, to collect his things and to help him up. Just that one tiny act of kindness made it spread. The boy helped another person and the next one helped another. This chain continued on and lastly, the construction worked got helped after. That one little act caused a boomerang effect that spreaded and landed back on him.

Doing good things will always lead to you getting something good. For example, I can help someone carry something heavy to their destination and it could start a whole boomerang of kindness.

So it started as a normal boy that was riding a skate board and he fell but there was an construction worker that walked by instead of the construction worker walked a way the construction work help out the boy and the boy carry’s on to help an old lady to cross the street and the old lady goes ahead and helps someone else and it’s kind of like a cycle.

Thebigidea
I think the big idea is that there’s friendly people every we might have non friendly. People but the kindness spread on to other people as the world will be a better place if there was kindness every where .but sadly kindness is not every where in the world but some people are going thru bullying in other school and some have gotten so bad they developed a a condition that will make them commit suicide so take bullying seriously and don’t take it as an joke so people might not take it as an joke and something that a person said might really scar them and it might as well stay with them for ever fortunetly in our school we are a community and we take bullying serious.

A teenager boy was skate boarding, then he suddenly lost balance and fell over. Then, a construction worker came over and helped him pick up his things and also, helped him get back up. Kindness started to spread through one person to another.

The boy helped an old lady to carry some things that where heavy. Then, he helped her cross the street safely. A businessman helped a struggling guy get his suitcase out from his car. One little act of kindness started to spread through one person to another, continuously!

In conclusion, I think the big idea of this video is that doing something good, like helping others would make your life and other people's a lot better! Then, this kindness will return to you! Just like a boomerang!

It all started when a teen boy was skateboarding and he fell off. A construction worker walked by helped him to get up and helped him picked up his stuff. Then the boy went and helped an old woman to cross the road. After that the old lady helped another person and the next one helped another. It kept spreading around like a chain and at last the construction worker got helped. A waiter in a restaurant gave him a glass of water. His little act caused a boomerang effect and it finally landed back on him.

I think the big idea is that if you do something good and be kind to people, it will make the world a much nicer place. And it will finally go back and land on you.

So a boy fell of then this MAN helped him. Then the kindness continues from person to person. It starting spreading to other people until it came back to the MAN when the waiter got him a cup of water. Kindness came back like to boomerang.

The big idea is to be nice to people and it will always find a way back to you.

i think in this video, it starts off with a boy reviving help from a man after he fell off a skateboard. This action maybe triggers something in the boy and proceeds to help a lady carry some items across the street, and she helps someone out by offering them her spare change to pay for the pay parking. This act of kindness then works as a ring of domino's, where the kindness then goes back to the original person.

I think the big idea of this video is to prove that good things always come back to you eventually, like a boomerang. and that kindness always has a reward.

Emily K

I think the Big Idea of the video was to show how that what goes around, comes around. Kindness is contagious! When people are having a rough day, you should always be there to lift them up. Supporting others is a great way to help! Just make sure you don't bring others down by elevating someone else.

In the video, the kindness chain starts with a boy that falls off his skateboard. You then see a construction worker helping him up. The boy quickly shifts from sad to happy and continues the chain by helping an elderly that needed help carrying groceries so, he also gave a helping hand. The chain then continues. You can see the pure joy on peoples faces to know that someone is there lending a hand. Some people in the video were so grateful to get something, like how one man got a hot dog in the video, someone picked up someone else's wallet and phone and gave it back.

At the end of the video, we see a waitress that gives the construction worker some water. I think the construction worker knew that his act of kindness inspired others to do so as well. Or, he might not have known that he started the chain but, he was grateful for someone else to also share their kindness with him.

It started off when a teenage boy fell off his skateboard and fell down. A construction worker saw what had happened so he came over to help him get back up, and this is how the kindness circle had started.

The boy then helped an old lady cross the street, then the old lady helped a woman by giving her change for her parking, and so the kindness kept passing around. Just one small act of kindness helped out lots of people.

And so to conclude this, I think that your act of kindness may propel others to do the same because kindness spreads rapidly, like the domino effect. So maybe if you perform your act of kindness to someone, it might come back to you - just like a boomerang.

Kindness

We all know what kindness is but do we all know what the kindness boomerang is?
A kindness boomerang is basically what it sounds like. You are kind to someone and then they are kind to another person and the chain passes on until someone is kind to you. Just like a boomerang it goes and then comes back to you. When people are feeling down you should always lift them up and not bring them down.

I think that the big idea of the video is that kindness can spread really fast and that when people are kind to each other they tend to be kinder to other people in return. The boy in the video fell and then the construction worker helped him up. The boy was feeling good so he helped someone else which helped another person and then at the end the construction worker got help. It is always nice to get help from other people.

I found this quote that was really inspiring that made me think a lot about my past and I dug deep in my connections and I could feel the scene happening all over again. “Never look down on anybody unless you’re helping them up.” - Jesse Jackson. This quote reminded me of the time I was not in the best mood. My friends came and cheered me up and I was in a great mood so when another friend wasn’t feeling great and thought she wasn’t going to get a good grade on the test I went and encouraged her.

In conclusion, I think that showing kindness is very important and also paying it forward continues the spread of kindness which makes the world a better place.
“Kindness - One of the greatest gifts you can bestow upon another. If someone is in need, lend them a helping hand. Do not wait for a thank you. True kindness lies within the act of giving without the expectation of something in return.” - Katharine Hepburn

I think the big idea of this video was about kindness can spread super fast. When you are kind to each other they tend to be more kind because they are in a good mood. It started with a boy falling off the skateboard an then the construction worker helped him up. After that he felt good and he started to help other people and so on..

In conclusion, I think helping other people could also make yourself fell good too! Kindness can always come back to you like a boomerang.

In the beginning a boy fell down on his skateboard and a worker came to help him pick up his things. Then the little boy went to help the old woman, the old woman helped the other one. Goodwill is handed down one by one. The goodwill was passed on one by one. Until finally the workers got some water. Every move you make may help someone else. It is a good thing to help others. You can help yourself by helping someone. If we see someone in need, we should help them.

Ruby
2/18/2020 09:48:39 pm

When the boy fell down and the construction worker helped him up, the kindness boomerang started as the boy in turn, helped an old lady carry her groceries across the street and the old lady payed for another woman's parking fee because she couldn't find the money. It went on and on until going back to the construction worker.

I think that the big idea is that doing something so kind and small can turn into something so big that helps so many people and that you should be kind as you can see in the video, and it also makes you feel good inside. A small act of kindness I can do is something like helping someone get up when they fall as an act of kindness.

The video started a boy skateboarding with his friends and then he fell down. A construction worker helped him up. Then the boy helps an elderly women with her groceries. And the cycle keeping going.

The big idea is be nice to people and show kindness. for example, helpng people like the a man helped another man with the suitcase.

Claire

Kindness can travel.
I think that the main idea of this video is that no matter how small something could be for both good and bad can become into something big. This is because many people can get inspired in different ways and in this video it is someone inspiring others to be kind.

It all started with a boy who fell down and was struggling to get back up when a construction worker helped him get back up. This is where the boy who had received kindness had decided to go help another person cross the road. This is how the kindness boomerang truly begins and it keeps going on until the kindness that the construction worker spread comes back to him like a boomerang. In this kindness boomerang, the kindness came back to him where the waitress which had received kindness before that gave the construction worker some water.

I think that this main idea is what the kindness boomerang video was really trying to teach and that the action of kindness that you spread will come back to you no matter how long it may take to do so.

Kindness is the best trait that a person could have. Kindness starts with one person and can spread rather quickly. In this video, we learned about a kindness boomerang.

A kindness boomerang is kindness starting from one person’s kind behaviours, passing onto the next, kind of like a domino effect, and ends back at him. It all starts off with a construction worker helping a boy who fell down from his skateboard. The boy, after being treated with kindness, moves on to help an old lady carry her groceries across the street.

The big idea of this video is that kindness can spread really quickly if everyone is kind to one another. Eventually, the kindness that you give people might end up back at you. In the video, the construction worker was given a glass of water. If you think about it this way, a kindness boomerang is like when people pay it forward. At many fast food drive-thrus, people pay it forward to show kindness and support. The first person starts and pays for the next person’s order, and it might just go on.

Something I could do to show kindness is to carry a person’s groceries. Young girls and boys should be doing some chores and work, so helping people carry their bags will be no problem. I can be the one person that starts a kindness boomerang if I do that.

Kindness is the best thing that we could have in our world. If everyone was kind to each other, we wouldn’t have any problems. Kindness starts with one person. We can all be that one person. :D
