An electromagnet is a solid object with a magnetic field when in the presence of an electrical current. In general, an electromagnet is made of a coil of wire wrapped around a ferromagnetic material, like iron, steel, or cobalt. When one completes an electrical circuit and attaches the coil of wire around the ferromagnetic core so that it is connected to both the north and south side, it becomes an electromagnet and can pick other small pieces of steel, iron, or cobalt.

A electromagnet works like so because the coil of wire conducts moving electrons, which wraps itself around the ferromagnetic core. This gives electricity to the electromagnet, and electromagnet forms a magnetic field. Once it is formed, it works like a regular magnet; the magnetic fields align the domains of the pieces of steel/iron/cobalt and attracts it to itself.

An electromagnet differs from a regular permanent magnet because it can be turned on and off. For example, a speaker consists of an electromagnet and a permanent magnet. When the electrical current passes through the electromagnet, which is attached to a cone, the electromagnet pulls and pushes from the permanent magnet and makes the cone vibrate, which makes sound.

To make an electromagnet, you need to have a coil of wire to wrap around something that includes iron, steel or cobalt. You also need to have a battery to connect the wire. Once the wire is attached to the material that includes iron, steel or cobalt and it is connected to the north and south side, it became an electromagnetic and can pick up small items like paper clips.

The difference between electromagnetic to permanent magnet is that electromagnetic can turn on and off and permanent magnets can't. For example, doorbell contains electromagnetic. When we push the button, the electricity go through the electromagnetic which touch the clapper (is a material inside the doorbell) and make the bell ring.

The components in a electro magnet are battery, coil of wire, and iron nail.

An electro magnet works by the battery connection with the copper wire to create an electric current. Electromagnetism says when there is a electric current there is a magnetic field. We need the iron nail because it makes it magnetic field stronger. The difference between electro magnet and permanent magnet the electro magnet can be turned off by pulling the wires off the battery. Microphones use electro magnetism by the sound moving across the metal plates making it vibrate. When it vibrates the electric current is produced

How to make an electromagnet?

If you want to make an electromagnet you will need a coil also a wire and you will need a nail or something else which has iron in it, and you need a battery and if you have a battery holder you can put the battery inside it. Now what you will need to do is, you have to take a nail or anything which has iron in it and wrap your coil around it. Now try to pick something fro example a paper clip.

You can also pick other materials I'm saying paperclips because we used paperclips in our class since it does not have too much weight and is easy. Also be careful because some of your materials might be magnetized by a magnet or something else. On our table we did it but then we realized that our paper clip was magnetized! So be careful! :)

The components of an electromagnet are 1 copper wire, a battery, and a nail. The difference between an electromagnet and a permanent magnet is that electromagnets can be turned on and off. Permanent magnets can’t. To make an electromagnet circuit you have to wrap the copper wire around the nail. After you wrap the copper wire around the nail you put the two ends of the wire into the positive and negative sides of the battery. The electrons go through the coil which creates an electric current and magnetizes the nail. This creates a magnetic field that helps the nail attract things like a paper clip. There are also some devices that use electromagnets in them. For example, a speaker (the device) uses an electromagnet and creates sound that goes through to reach its destination.

An electromagnet is a object that has a magnetic field that is created with electricity. Today we did a experiment of trying to use a electromagnet to attract other metals. The components we had used in our experiment is a battery, a wire, a needle, and a paper clip. We first wrap the needle with the needle, then we connect the wires onto each end of the battery to create a circuit. The electrons, or the electricity will then create a magnetic field, which would work like a normal magnet, a north and south side. To gather more force, you can simply connect more batteries so there would be more electricity. That way it would create a stronger magnetic field and could potentially attract something heavy. The difference between a permanent magnet and a electromagnet is that the permanent magnet already has the magnetic field stored inside of it. There is no way to turn it on or off. While a electromagnet is a magnet that is powered by electricity, and you can turn on and off electricity, just like your bedroom's light switch.
e.g. A electric motor uses an electromagnet change electrical energy to kinetic energy. It generates magnetic fields with electric current through a coil. The magnetic field then makes a force with a magnet that creates movement would run the motor.

Electromagnet

Electromagnetic fields can be produced by passing through an electric current through a copper coil. To create an electromagnet you will need the following materials: coil of wire, to wrap around iron, cobalt or steel, paper clips and a battery. First you will need the coil of wire and wrap it around your object that is either made of iron, cobalt or steel. After you will need to attach to the battery and slowly it will lift up the paper clips.

Permanent magnet creates its own magnetic field and is made with an object that has magnetic properties. Electromagnet is a field that can be produced by passing through an electric current through a copper coil.

One piece of technology that uses an electromagnet is a generator. In the book “The Boy who Harnessed the Wind” William used a generator which was a bicycle dynamo to make the windmill and that generator used electromagnet.

An electromagnet is made by connecting a wire to both the positive and negative sides of a battery and wrapping the wire around something like a nail in the shape of a coil. This works because an electrical current creates a magnetic field. But since using a single wire would be to weak, shaping the wire into a coil makes it more stronger because all of the turns in the coil add up. But using just the coil would also be too weak so adding a ferromagnetic material such as iron, nickel, or cobalt will make it stronger since ferromagnetic materials have small magnetic particles that are all over the place, which means they cancel each other out. But if you have a different magnetic field then the particles will all be aligned since they are now facing it. And the wire you are wrapping around the nail has a tiny magnetic field because of you attaching it to the battery. Which means it can pick up something like a paper clip now.

An electromagnet is a magnet that is powered by electricity. Unlike a permanent magnet, an electromagnet can be turned on and off, and the strength of an electromagnet can vary by the amount of electric current running through it. An electromagnet is made out of a coil of wire (solenoid) wound around a core made of a ferromagnetic substance, such as iron, nickel, and cobalt, which is connected to a battery or energy source. The atoms in the core on its own would normally be pointing in all different directions, but using the coil, the electric current flows through the ferromagnetic core causing the atoms align to point in the same direction, creating a stronger magnetic field that can be used. One example of an electromagnet being used is in a doorbell. When the doorbell is pressed, the electromagnet turns on. The magnetic field attracts the clapper next to the bell, making the clapper hit the bell to produce a sound.

Electromagnets are objects that act like magnets when charged with an electrical current. They usually consist of a wire which is wrapped around a ferromagnet, such as iron, cobalt, or nickel. When electricity passes through the wire, the magnet field of the wire is formed together to create a bigger magnetic field.

The difference between a permanent magnet and an electromagnet is that electromagnets can be switched on and off. Permanent magnets, on the other hand, do not have this option. This allows them to be used in different technologies such as speakers, MRI machines, and many more.

A electro magnet is a magnet that is powered by electricity. They can be turned on and off. In order to make a electro magnet you will need a battery, a coil/wire, and some sort of metal item. The first step is to wrap your wire around your metal item, then you want to make a circuit by connecting the wires to the battery. This works since it make its own magnetic field, (this is only a temporary magnet and it wont last forever). A electro magnet that we may use everyday is a doorbell. Who would of thought?!?

The components of an electromagnet is usually comprised of a battery, a wire, a a type of ferromagnetic metal. A permanent magnet, something like a fridge magnet, has no way of shutting off its magnetic properties. While on the other hand, an electromagnet is only magnetic if an electric current is running through it. This means that the electromagnet can be controlled by turning on or switching off an electric circuit running through it. One common example of electromagnets are magnetic locks, they use electromagnets property of being able to control themselves to close or open doors. While the door is closed, it turns on the electromagnet to keep itself that way, but when it opens, the current shuts off and the door swings freely.

What is an electromagnet and how to make one
----------------------------------------------------------------
To put it simply, an electromagnet is an object with a magnetic field created from electricity. The core is made of ferromagnetic substances, such as iron, steel or cobalt. A wire needs to be coiled around the core (this case scenario an iron nail) and one end of the wire should be attached to the north side of a battery, and the other end attached to the south side of the battery. That creates an electromagnet and how to make one.

The difference between a permanent magnet and an electromagnet
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An electromagnet's magnetic properties are shown when an electric current is passing through it, while a permanent magnet's magnetic properties continue during the time it is magnetized. An electromagnet also needs electricity to continuously flow for it to keep up it's magnetic field. On the contrary, permanent magnets do not need electricity to be flowing at all times for it to keep up it's magnetic field. The most important difference (personally) is that the magnetic properties are makeshift. Somebody could disconnect the electric current, and reconnect it and the magnetic properties will continue to be usable. For a permanent magnet, once the magnetic properties are gone, it is useless and can't create any more magnetic fields, kind of like how once the pencil's eraser is used up, it can't suddenly have a brand new eraser waiting to be used again.

Technology that uses an electromagnet
-----------------------------------------------------
A personal connection is an electric mixer. It uses electromagnetism to function. Fun Fact; a lot of kitchen gadgets and devices use electromagnetism, like microwaves, and toasters!

Electromagnets are made of coils of wire with electricity passing through them. Moving charges create magnetic fields, so when the coils of wire in an electromagnet have an electric current passing through them, the coils behave like a magnet. So, in today experiment when we put the nail between the wire then it will create some magnetism to stick so iron, metal object. It is because that the nail is made by a iron and inside the wire are made by the coil. So, when this two materials mixed together it will create little bit of magnetisms and that is how magnets stick some object that are made from iron and metal.

Electromagnets are powered by electricity and can be turned on and off. A permanent magnet can’t be turned on and off with its magnetic property.

Electromagnets are made of coils of wire, a battery and an object which has iron or metal in it. Yesterday’s experiment we wrapped a nail with wire and attached the wire tto the battery to make a circuit. The wires have an electric current passing through them, makes the object with metal magnetic.

Did you know objects like speakers, vacuum cleaners and a laundry machine has electromagnets?

Electromagnet is a type of electricity that are storing electricity and charging it up. In order to create on you need a battery, coil wire, and a battery. A permanent magnet are pointing in the same direction bouncing off. A electromagnet is different because a magnetic field is being created by electricity the wire is wound into this coil to have this current to make a magnetic field. Since the magnetic field is very strong it can pull in iron and other minerals. A example of a electromagnet is a refrigerator.
