1.) WORD WORK: Complete the word analysis and study the meanings for your test Friday

2. COLLAGE: Bring magazines or items for your collage

3.) WITH PARENTS:
  • Review the class website with your parents. 
  • Explain to them what the 'POST A RESPONSE' is.
  • Watch 'Austin's Butterfly' with your parent and explain to them how it relates to how you will learn this year!
4.) POST A RESPONSE:
  • You will be responsible for completing the daily POST A RESPONSE (PAR) assignment.  Instructions will be clearly outlined every day.  
  • One of your assignments today is to review the class website with your parents.
          LEARNING INTENTION: I can show my parent the class website and explain what I learned about
                                                  improving my work today (watch Austin's butterfly with your parents).
          SUCCESS CRITERIA: 
          1.) PARAGRAPH WRITING STRUCTURE
              - engaging hook/intro
              - body and supporting sentences/examples/points, and conclusion.
          2.) CONTENT
              - Include who you shared it with and what they said about the class website.
              - Include 2-3 points about 'AUSTIN'S BUTTERFLY' and how it relates to how you will learn this
                year! Think about how it relates to 'THE BIG 6 LEARNING PRINCIPLES'. 
          3.) THE GIVENS (Conventions of Writing)
             - Check your work for the givens before posting 
             - The givens are spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure.

First full day of class

​Today was the first full day of classes. Division 2 students reviewed the safety procedures and spent some time getting to know each other and their teacher. Students were also introduce to the BIG 6 Principles of Leaning through our name tag project. Studnets got the LEARNING INTENTION and then together as a class we co-created SUCCESS CRITERIA for the project! After this student got underway planning their name tags and the peer and teacher ASSESSMENT & DESCRIPTIVE FEEDBACK started. We finished off the day with a math assessment and and introduction to our Word Work Vocabulary building program! What a great first day!
IMPORTANT:
  • Bring in your signed Health Assessment Forms Tomorrow
  • Show your parents the class website!

1.) HOME READING: 30 minutes and fill out your home reading calendar

2.) TECHNOLOGY: Students are encouraged to bring their own tech to school to help support their learning

3.) MATH: We will complete the pre-test tomorrow

4.) WORD WORK: We will learn how to do the word analysis tomorrow. Students can start studying the spellings and meaning for the Word Work Evaluation/Test on Friday

5.) NAME TAGS: Complete the planning page for tomorrow

6.) POST A RESPONSE:


Learning Intention: I can write a paragraph explaining three of the BIG 6 Principles of Learning

Success Criteria:
  • Include the three principles: Learning Intentions, Success Criteria, Descriptive Feedback
  • Explain what each each of the three principles means
  • Use an example to help explain the three principles (examples could be: baking cookies, making paper airplane, writing a poem, makinga name tag, etc.)
  • Use correct punctuation (the GIVENS) capitals, periods, commas, spelling etc.
  • Proofread you work before you post!

Reply to another studnets post and give them some descriptive feedback on their paragraph.

It was so great to meet the new div 2. class of 2021. We only had a chance to see each other in small groups this week, but we will al be together on Monday and will continue learning the protocols and practices that will help keep us safe!  We will also be starting the grade 7 program! I am so excited to get the learning started! Below you will see some reminders as well as a Post A Response Activity. Remember to only post under your first name. You will be learning lots about using the class website and digital citizenship and netiquette (how to behave respectfully and responsibly on line) in the coming weeks.

​REMINDERS & HOMEWORK:

1.)  DAILY HEALTH ASSESSMENT FORM: Signed by your parents and returned to me Monday

2.)  I AM BACK AT SCHOOL SHEET: Complete this and bring it to school on Monday

3.)  HOME READING: Read for 30 minutes each day, fill in the pages read and the time read on the calendar and have the date signed by a parent. Bring the calendar to school on Monday so I can check it

4.) POST A RESPONSE:
  • Your first homework assignment is to write a welcome back message (paragraph format) to your classmates and your teachers!
  • You can include things such as examples, likes, favourite subject, least favourite subject, hobbies, etc. 
  • Include an engaging intro (hook), body, and conclusion in your paragraph.
  • LEARNING INTENTION: I can introduce myself to my classmates and my teachers.
