When the student raised their hand I could tell from the look in their eyes that what they were going to say would change our lives forever!

Today's students learned an effective strategy for hooking readers. They learned how to start at an exciting part and then backfill. They saw several examples written by the teacher and then had a chance to practice on their own. I was very happy with the progress!

It was really nice to be back at school and see everybody again! I missed you all! I'm super busy getting the class re-organized and everything ready for the week so not much of a post today. See you tomorrow!
1. POST ARESPOSNE:
  • ​Write another paragraph for your Alphabiograophy and add it to your online notebook. If you already have 16 completed move to SECTON B
  • If you are writing your 16th piece tonight, post a message here telling me what you will write about and you do not have to do section B.
  • Remember that it does not have to be a long piece of writing but it must be interesting and understandable!

SECTION B: Post a list of all the strategies you know for converting fractions to decimals and vice versa!

BOUNS! Explain two ways to determine if a fractions decimal will repeat or terminate!

Remembrance day!

And today we had our school Remembrance Day assembly. Remembrance day is an important day where we remember people who fought for freedom. People who believed in peace and who gave their lives to fight against injustice, racism, discrimination, and hate. We take time today and tomorrow to be thankful for the free country we live in and to remember those who gave their lives so we can enjoy the freedom and peace we have today. We will not forget!
1.) Alphabiograpjhy: 15 piece due Monday November 14th
  • You may uses your post form today in your Alphabigraphy

2.) Math: Complete the booklet for Monday (click)
  • Success Criteria:
  1. Choose the best strategy for the questions
  2. Any fractions that have denominators that are factors of 10 or 100 should be converted without calculator by changing the fraction to a denominator of 10, 100, or 1000.
  3. Do 10 questions using long division to divide
  4. You may use a calculator for the rest of the questions.

    2.) Pay attention to the givens/conventions (spelling, capitals, punctuation, grammar, and sentence structure)
    3.) Include 3 supporting examples in your body and explain them in detail.  This should be points that explain your 'BIG IDEA' about Remembrance day and the poppy.
    4.) Do a self-assessment (post this as a reply to your first draft of your paragraph).
    5.) Edit/revise your post based on your self-assessment of the criteria.
    6.) OPTIONAL: Give 2 students feedback based on the above criteria using SOARing behaviour.

Ecosystems!

Today was the final day studying our ecosystems. Student showed outstanding stewardship and care and returned all their organisms back to their natural habitats. Great job division 1. In the coming weeks, we will study our data and draw conclusions about the success of our ecosystems. You will all show your  understanding of the relationships between the elements in an ecosystem.

  2. The sentences use the words correctly
  3. The sentence shows the words meaning
  4. Leave a blank space in the sentence for the chosen word work word
  • Reply to another classmates post and complete the quiz by inserting the correct word. 
  • You may cut and paste the quiz and then add in the correct words. 
  • After a student has completed your quiz, reply giving them a score out of 8.
  • Using the plural for of the word is okay.
Example: There were many _________ wandering around eating insects, worms, beetles, grass and various plants.

Division 1. I will be away for the rest of the week. Please do your best to take ownership of your learning. This is your challenge. Nobody knows how the class should run better than you all do. Nobody knows you better than you do. You know what you need to learn and be successful.  Please follow the C-Chart behaviour expectations and continue being Supportive, Open Minded, Awesome and Respectful throughout the rest of the week.

Today's students completed the first half of the FSA government tests. Tomorrow we will finish the second half and then get back into the grade 7 curriculum. In the afternoon, students had their second to last science ecosystem observations and then had a good inquiry work period learning about systems inquiry and social studies research inquiry. We will complete the analyzing and synthesizing on Wednesday and then we will wrap up the inquiry by going public and sharing the answers to our questions.
1) SS Inquiry: phase 3 and 4 due Wednesday by 3 PM. Students will have over an hour to work on this Wednesday afternoon.

2) French: Keep working on your keep working on your French cooking show script. Completed Scripts will be due Monday November 14th

3) POST A RESPONSE: :

Colourful Pasta
DO YOU LIKE FOOD? WHAT ABOUT PASTA? HAVE YOU EVER TRIED COLOURED PASTA?.

Today Ms. Liz modelled a cooking show in French. Students practiced their pronunciation, saw what a cooking show might look like and then they brainstormed ideas for their own cooking shows!

Go Eagles!
Zing! Zam! Zip! The day sure went by quickly. Just like a flash of lightning.

In the morning we had a volleyball lesson from Miss Liz. After a warm up, students practised bumping setting and serving before playing a fun game involving all 3 skills. After getting our blood flowing students learned two new ways to write an engaging introduction before they got to work on their writing. After recess we continued on with our fractions and decimals lesson. Students learned the difference between equivalent decimals. They are the same amount but just different sized pieces! We finished off the day with a reading strategy assessment. What a full day of learning!

After starting off the day with music students had and engaging writing lesson with Miss Liz. They practised a strategy to engage readers. They worked on opening a piece of writing with an interesting or intriguing  question. After seeing some examples, and a little  practice students applied the strategy to their own writing. In math, we finally launched our fractions and decimals unit. The afternoon was spent on ecosystems inquiry and the introduction to our next French project. A cooking show! Students will learn many French phrases in a fun and engaging way!
1) ALPHABIOGRAPHY WRITING: Complete your 5th piece (Due tomorrow)

2) MATH: Complete the handout

3.)FRENCH: you must decide what you will be cooking by Thursday!

4.) POST A RESPONSE:
  • LEARNING INTENTION: I can write a paragraph about about my 2022 Halloween experience using an engaging hook.
